Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he's "to the right" of Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) when it comes to the National Security Agency's surveillance program.

When Fusion host Jorge Ramos asked the senator about Paul's NSA lawsuit on Thursday, Schumer said he's more conservative than his Republican colleague.

"Since our Constitution was founded, the founding fathers have had a great debate between liberty and security, and you have to have both," Schumer said.

Schumer said he does "think we have to move a little bit on the liberty side" and said he would make the proceedings of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court public.

"But the wholesale elimination of the program, I think, leaves us too naked in terms of security, and you've got to have security as well as liberty," Schumer said.

Paul and the conservative activist group FreedomWorks filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration on Feb. 12 over the NSA's mass collection of millions of Americans' phone records. Paul and the group said they filed the suit for themselves and on behalf of "everyone in America that has a phone."

This just shows how ridiculous terms like "right and left" really are. I have mostly conservative political views as well, but terms like "left and right" are just ridiculous when people on the "right," people who allegedly believe in "limited government," are supposed to support completely shredding the Bill of Rights and allowing the government to spy on us with virtually no limits at all.

Ummm, I'm sorry Mr. Schumer but this puts you to the LEFT of Rand on this issue. You're right there with Joseph Stalin. I would love to hear Greg Brannon comment on this in Rand's defense.

Schumer is the worst of both worlds. I don't know who's the absolute worst senator, him or Lindsay Graham.

Good, he's being honest. I myself am not "far right"; I'm libertarian (far from left or right). He makes me like Rand Paul even more.

Since when does Chuck Schumer care about liberty and security? I would have laughed myself into a coma hearing this come out his mouth

Hey please don't diss my man John McCain for biggest jackass Senator. And Dianne Feinstein is not going to be happy that you excluded her from serious contention. Had he not retired, Joe Lieberman would probably have crushed all the competition for the gold medal of subhuman Senators.

It is nothing about left or right, it is about power and anyone holding power has the potential to violate the Constitution. Just makes Schumer look more ridiculous.
