Christofascism

you can also be Christian without be a Christofascist--without feeling like you need to have all of your Christian morals be federal or consitutitonal laws that apply to everybody just because you think God told you thats the way its supposed to be.

Frankly, I think you've got it wrong. I think the way to appeal to Christians is to say that legislating Christian morality opens the door to conflict between denominations.

There is virtually no generic Christian morality when it comes to the practices of people in their daily lives, and anyone who thinks so has got their head up their hindquarters. There are "blessed are the peacemakers" types, and there are "I come to bring not peace but a sword" types.

Huckabee is flat-out lying when he refuses to answer specific questions about his theology by saying that it's nitpicking. It matters very, very much to people whether they've got a statue of St. Patrick in their church or if they have a Bible lying on an altar in the front of their church or if they have a gay bishop.

The moment you bring Christianity into the public sphere, the question arises of whose Christianity.

My theory on converting the Christian right from Huckabee is to say " Look, you don't want your Christianity dragged into something as ugly, dirty, and corrupt as politics. Christianity needs to be up to the individual. These politicians who are using religion to get votes do not have the best interest of religion in mind. They are looking out for themselves. And ultimately when these politicians fail, or do corrupt things they will damage whatever religion they hijacked to get where they are. You do not want politicians affliated with your religion. Look at the reputation Islam now has because of what governments do in the name of Islam. Do you really want Christianity to get that sort of reputation?
