Christmas No 1 for Golden State Bombs (End This War, Ron Paul Song)

do you have a suggestion? It sounds like you know more about this than most of us. Or at least more than I do about marketing this sort of thing!

Here would be my overall suggestion.

1) we have what it takes to get this on the itunes charts. Whatever people are doing right now is fine. Once it gets on the charts, that's when people will start promoting the hell out of it, with screen caps, etc etc etc. Buy it buy it buy it. Itunes charts update fairly regularly. It will be something that gets people excited.

2) Then, take that money, and give it to a radio promotions guy or a video promotions guy. Bill McGathy for Active Rock. I don't know every radio promotions guy. Rive for video.

Do itunes first, then radio / video

OK we have a lot of good ideas in this thred and I dont want them to go to waste. A college tour in Iowa is a great idea. lets say the band want and can do it. how do we go abouts organizing something like this. OW what about the rock the revolution tour that just didnt take off.http://www.rocktherevolutiontour.com/ They must have an idea on what we can do.

I wouldn't talk to them about that. There was a definite lack of specific knowledge on Rocktherevolutiontour.

But, a college tour in Iowa, the week before the caucus? hmmm interesting.

If the song gets to number 1, there will be money. But I don't know how soon the money will be there.

We should be getting good venues in Iowa now for New years eve, new years day, Jan 2, Jan 3. We should have money to do this. And we should apply that money to those venues now.

I think it would be great if somehow a show in Iowa before the caucus at one of the colleges to fire up the youth on get out the vote.

Not at the colleges. The colleges aren't in session. They're done in 2 weeks, the kids will be home with their parents starting in mid December.

In Des Moines first. Then maybe another in Des Moines. Then maybe one in Cedar Rapids.

Vaudeville Mews, in Des Moines is a good venue, based on the touring national acts that are there.

The song will be on itunes within 24 hours, I need help on which radio stations to call up for requests. We should pick a few and all call in.
The 9 Best College Radio Stations

Are you saying this song will be available to push up the charts in 24 hours?

We should work to get this song up the itunes charts as quickly as possible. I'm not sold on the idea of waiting until Christmas for this. Just push it up the charts as fast as possible. Ron Paul has more fans than maybe any band out there.

I subscribe to a number of feeds from popular music blogs. I'll try to contact them and see if they'll make a blog post about it.

Love. Peace. Liberty.
What hipster blogger wouldn't want to post an awesome song about those things?

I would say that when the song becomes available on itunes, the #1 thing to do is just to do what always happens, which is to hype the hell out of it on the internet.

Click here to buy the song. Put Ron Paul on the charts. Everywhere you can put a link to the song, you put a link to the song.
And just, over and over, hit the internet with buy this song. This song is now 75. This song was 75, now 50.

How do we hype a moneybomb? Just like that.

Pollstar link for Des Moines.

Here's what looks good to me - looking at it real quick

House of Bricks.
Peoples
Val Air Ballroom
Vaudeville Mews

http://www.thehouseofbricks.com/Calendar.html - open dates at house of bricks?
http://www.vaudevillemews.com/index.php?p=calendar&mon=2 - open dates at vaudeville mews?

Those are the smaller ones.

Peoples and val air are larger

http://peoplesdm.com/schedule - they do both all ages and 21+ shows - based on the acts - I"d say 500-1000 capacity
http://www.valairballroom.com/ - they're even bigger - 1000-5000 I'd guess, they have very few shows. Wilco. Staind and Halestorm.
http://www.valairballroom.com/private-rentals/ - Private Rentals.

And if you have unlimited money - Wells Fargo Arena. 16K capacity hockey arena.
http://www.iowaeventscenter.com/

Cedar Rapids is the 2nd largest metro, but it appears that Iowa City is where the bands play.
http://www.pollstar.com/resultsCity.aspx?ID=13359&SortBy=Date&SearchBy=cedar rapids, ia

http://www.bluemooseic.com/calendar/ - Blue Moose Tap House
There will be a variety of shows of both the all-ages and late night variety so stay posted!

http://www.pollstar.com/resultsVenue.aspx?ID=64819&SortBy=Date - The Mill
http://icmill.com/?page_id=5 - does have all age shows as well as 19+ 21+ and private is available

Iowa City is a half hour from Cedar Rapids. It's where the U of Iowa is. Makes sense that the venues would be there. The school is not in session during the caucus.

You've worked hard today :) you've contributed so much and I need a little time to take it all in. The song should be on itunes some time today according to Golden State. I got an email yesterday and Goldenstate also left a message on here, one page back about it.

That's a list of people who do this for a living. You might want to start by calling those people on the phone.

Radio Promotion Companies

These are independent companies who will promote your record to radio stations. Most companies tend to specialize in either college or commercial radio promotion. For most independent records, college radio promotion alone is more than adequate. To hire a quality college radio promotion company, expect to pay upwards of $1,500 for a single and $3,000 for an album project.

OK. Lets say we get a good one at $3000.
1st Does the band have a radio promotion company? Probably not.
2nd The Band has to know we are doing this.
3rd Money, do we do a chip in, or take the money out of the song.
4th Do we need a promotion company, wouldn't it be better that the grassroots are the promotion company?
5th If we (lets say 100 people) are the promotion company, what do we need? Phone numbers etc
6th What do we say when we call a radio station to promote it? (Im not talking about simply requesting the song)
Our story is great, "hey I'm calling to promote a song that the Ron Paul grassroots are going to buy on mass, you can be one of the first to mention it on air....etc etc"

Ok.
Does the band have a radio promotion company. Let's say no.
2nd. The band will end up doing this.
3rd. take the money out of the song. or not. The money from the song goes to the band. after that, it supposedly goes to revpac, but let's just assume that
everyones cool with the band spending money on radio promotion.
4th. Yes, you do need a promotion company. I'm not the expert of experts, but one of the main things that the radio promotion company does is get the music in a useable form into the hands of the radio stations. In the proper format. Etc, etc etc. Often, radio stations really don't want to deal with anybody but promotions people. When radio stations say they want requests, they mean "from the songs we already play". If you're a local band, you might get played on the local show, but it's rare to get play in regular rotation. Now, the grassroots can help with the radio promotion people.
5th. nope, we shouldn't be doing that.
6th. One of the things is "did you get the CD I sent you" If memory serves, they have call hours.

What "we" would do in terms of radio is do research on who "we" think the band should hire. You could call all those people, the radio promotions people, tell them the story, and they would tell you what they thought. They could tell you "yes, if you get on the top 100 singles chart, I should be able to get you on the radio" or they could tell you "radio stations won't play political stuff". They tell you whatever it is they tell you. You've researched the credentials of these people, and then you contact the band with your recommendations. Basically, you're interviewing radio promotions people for the band.

What we should be focusing on is doing what Ron Paul Grassroots does. Hyping something on the internet. Buy Bombs (The Ron Paul Song) Get Ron Paul on the itunes chart. Jumping up and down. Get excited, get excited, get excited. Buy, buy, buy. It's like spamming an internet poll after a debate, but it costs $1. It's like a moneybomb but it only costs $1.

After it becomes big, then the band has a lot of money in their pocket. I can't remember off hand, but the label, or the band, gets something like 80% and Apple gets 20%. They'll get money quick. 10K sales - $8K or something like that.

After that happens, the band, if they want to do that, hires the radio promoter.

Same thing with video, except that Rive is the way to go. Guys I know were just on MTVU the freshmen. They aren't on a label, but Rive was able to get them in a MTVU contest, and they got airplay.

So what's the point of doing this? The song on iTunes doesn't have Ron Paul in the title nor is Ron Paul anywhere on the cover. The revolution logo means absolutely nothing to anyone but Ron Paul supporters.

So here is the "how you can help" info on the itunesbomb website

The point of doing it is the band Golden State has already agreed and RevPac has accepted that the proceeds will go to RevPac to help Ron Paul's campaign. Our job is to promote the YouTube video which clearly points out the support for Ron Paul. I would suggest anyone with a website, Facebook and Twitter account start promoting. If you like the song purchase it for yourself or music lovers in your family for X-Mas. Remember your purchase is a donation to Ron Paul's campaign.

Yes, agree with everything you say. However the slightest change in the name to "Bombs (The Ron Paul Song)" would massively help the campaign in name recognition and publicity.

The Golden State Band has done a massive favour for liberty and Ron Paul with this song. It's a superb initiative. In return, the grassroots will invest a lot of time, money and energy in catapulting the song up the charts. The knock-on effects for the band will be profound, and deservedly so. They are talented and valiant so they definately deserve this platform to build their music career. This is a mutually beneficial initiative, but it would help in the presedential campaign side of things if the name of the song could be changed "Bombs (The Ron Paul Song)".

Thank you.
