Check out reaction at Rand headquarters when Rand makes debate

It's a pretty big deal to come from not even being in the 2nd-tier event 2 weeks ago (due to Rand telling the network to fuck off) to being back in prime time, in Iowa, a few days before the Iowa caucus.

^^ This. The network basically had to admit that 1) they were wrong for excluding him last time or 2) that Rand is surging. This is huge! And it's the last debate before the Iowa caucus.

Fuck, guys. Some of us are emotionally invested. If you're not, maybe this is the wrong forum.

I don't support Rand because it's a good financial investment. I don't support Rand because he might lower my taxes. I don't support Rand because he's the least of all evils.

I support Rand because I'm passionate about the cause of individual liberty. Rand making the main debate is a fucking VICTORY. Those kids in the videos are making calls every day and could have very well tipped the scales from kiddie debate to main debate. They've earned their chant and so much fucking more.

Personally, I like seeing emotion in politics. It means somebody cares about something. It means they're sincere. Something that's sorely lacking in politics. If the world sees that, the worst that could happen, is that they would have to ask what those damn kids are so fired up about.

In other words...

PRESIDENT PAUL! PRESIDENT PAUL! PRESIDENT PAUL!

I get the excitement, passion, fun and all that, but the chanting, what the hell? When I was the chair of my delegation at the 2012 state convention, during Ron Paul's speech he was winning over the people in my delegation that were fence sitters. The cheering by enthusiastic supporters helped. And then the chanting started. I saw snickers and eyerolls and the greatest statesman of our time was just marginalized by his own supporters. Cheering helps, chanting hurts. Got it? It does matter.

Are you more or less likely to support Trump because his chimps chant "USA!" or whatever?

rationally

Hate to be a wet blanket, but success in politics is 100% about what opinions other people form about the candidate and his supporters. I understand the excitement, but that behavior torpedoed us in 2008, caused 2012 to be such an uphill battle, and perpetuates the perception that the liberty wing of the party is not to be taken seriously.

And I personally just don't understand the appeal of chanting.

maybe you would like to rationally think about why militaries, tribes, protest groups, warrior groups, sports teams, etc. have all used chants...

well, i was going to support Rand, but all this chanting turned me to hilliary.

I think this is a valid point. There is a fine line between cheering and chanting as perceived by the regular voter. I've seen this reaction in group settings with other republicans. The eye roll, the smirk when Ron/Rands supporters start. almost the same reaction that the well mean Jehovah Witness has been caricaturized as when walking up to your door.

I don't criticize it. I don't have the answer either. I just understand the way it can hurt more than help.

The correct answer is it is psychologically unifying.

I wouldn't exactly call that a fair comparison. The examples you listed are people on the same team. Of course chanting motivates the people on the same team. However it pisses off your opponents and drives them farther away. Now whether those types of people would've considered Rand in the first place is the question, but I can definitely understand how people get turned off by it. In fact, most of the non-Rand supporter comments around social media about people chanting his name in the debate were "wow somebody stacked the audience to look better" "stupid kids are annoying" "how inconsiderate" etc. I'm not saying cheering is so bad, but if you make it so obvious that you're specifically doing it for one person, it tends to push some people away and think you're just obnoxious. I guess the same could be said that it proves there's a presence for him, but the media will stamp on the presence as they did by stating "he stacked the place"..because you know there couldn't have GENUINELY been passionate supporters of Rand there.

Couldnt care less what those jackwads think.

This was RANDS campaign office, full of RANDS volunteers and RANDS supporters.

100% what I said was a fair comparison. Rand team chanting Rand = psychologically unifying.

I couldnt care less what some tweeters feel about it.

Oh I'm in complete agreement with you and I was more-so referring to the instance of this happening at the debate. There's nothing like firing up the base with good news.

Yep, think locker room.

Small victories lead to big ones and should be celebrated along the way.

I think the people in the video do understand that they can't just go around chanting. They spent hours and hours doing polite, calm phone calls to voters, so I think they get that that's the best approach. And at something like the convention, hey, at that point it can't hurt. But it was a weird choice to post this video publicly. So this is the candidate of the young white loud aggressive males. I don't know, maybe it is, but that's kind of depressing when you think about it...

In the first video posted of the phone call tally, it was a female announcing the results. In the second, it was a black dude. Not sure where that came from.
