Then, seeing that he had set the deck on fire under the tail of his A-4 non-fighter jet, McCain scrambled out of the cockpit in such a rush that he dropped his 'drop tank' (jettisonable auxiliary fuel tank) right in the middle of the fire. You can tell that this is what happened, and the court martial conclusion that his aircraft's internal fuel tank was hit by a missile from another aircraft on deck is a fabrication, by watching the film and seeing that in the early stages the fire was confined to the area behind the A-4. The integral fuel tanks of a Skyhawk, on the other hand, are above and ahead of the leading edges of the wings, and in the wings.

So, did the alleged missile that the court martial talked of (invented) strike the drop tank, which was not aflame until McCain dropped it in his scramble to exit the aircraft, or did it strike the internal fuel tank in the top of the forward part of the fuselage, an area which did not seem to be damaged and was not engulfed in flames until a couple of minutes had elapsed? Or perhaps the missile struck a wing, but did not cause the aircraft to fall even though the landing gear is also attached to the wings?

Or was somebody's daddy an admiral?

Think I had better save that image. Back in 2008 it was easy to find a cutaway schematic view of a Douglas A-4 on the web. Now it's getting surprisingly difficult.

Thanks . . . the youtubes and other film clips out there got unclassified and all I can say to John McCain is . . . that history is not going to be so kind.

I am sorry, like others I gave a certain deference to John McCain . . . but only for so long.
The gloves kinda came off when I saw that video from the carrier tower that clearly shows that the missle
from the other aircraft passed well in front of McCain's, and the fire was already on.

What was McCain even doing inside his plane then, was he trying to take off . . . you aint getting off the carrier deck then McCain.

no he was jammed, he was trying to stop his part of the fire.

McCain basically never followed protocol . . . there are mitigating factors in that had just loaded a different explosive (with more dangerous) of a profile
as a secondary.
