Police: Shots fired at Colo. pot holiday gathering

Associated Press
4/20/2013

Gunfire erupted at a Denver pot celebration Saturday, injuring two people and scattering a crowd of thousands at a downtown park after they had just marked the first 4/20 counterculture holiday since the state legalized marijuana.

The man and woman who were shot were expected to survive, and police were looking for one or two suspects, said Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson.

Witnesses described a scene in which a jovial atmosphere quickly turned to one of panic just before 5 p.m. Several thought firecrackers were being set off, then a man fell bleeding, his dog also shot.

"I saw him fall, grabbing his leg," said Travis Craig, 28, who was at the celebration, saw the shooting and said he used a belt to apply a tourniquet to the man's leg.

'because of the shooting today at the 4/20 event in Colorado, an emergency cease and desist order on marijuana use will be implemented immediately'

Where are the jackbooted thugs from Boston? They need to shut down the city until the perpetrators are caught.

Yeah, I didn't post it because I didn't want to spoil the celebration...

Seriously, was it intentional? Why the dog?

No stores looted or people trampled?

Hmm. Sounds like those potheads did the smart thing.... Get their arse out of the area and survive.

Probably shot a person and the person's dog responded so the shooter shot the dog? That is not the way to try to encourage legalization of something though. Kinda gives it a bad name.

WTF???????????

No one shoots dogs except cops and landowners. No landowners there.....

Why in the world would you assume that the person shooting was pro-legalization?

I think it's a gang-related shooting. When 80,000 people gather someplace, that's the size of a small city in itself. Pretty likely that at least a few rotten apples will be there too.

People have been shot at the Labor Day and Independence day celebrations in Charlotte the past few years. There was no open marijuana there, just an event with street closures and food vendors that draws people from all over town. Somebody has to ruin things by "acting tough" in front of gang members.
