Brian Kalk -- remember this name. One last takeaway from North Dakota

So, all i need to do is go around 'telling' everyone ''i'm a liberty candidate''...constitution..freedom...we're going broke...drill more...civil rights...pro-life....bomb Iran, and all is good. Elect me....

got it.

obama/bush 2012 bendover for status quo nonsense! yeahhhh

I'm less than thrilled. ND sounds like a total loss to me.

Other states are going to have to take up the slack. For having had such a good turnout in the straw polls, Ron Paul supporters sure didn't turn out at their caucuses.

may they both lose! hold the gop accountable never reward unless they deserve. They both deserve to lose!

That's not very likely, and if he does lose it will certainly be to a more liberal and less liberty-minded candidate. There is a libertarian in the general election, but I've really not seen much of anything of him so far, so he doesn't seem to be a very likely winner.

I'm pretty disappointed that most on this board don't seem to get the very simple concept of incrementalism. If you replace an establishment guy with a non-establishment guy that could be an ally even though he's not a Ron Paul cookie cutter, that represents a measure of progress. And especially when Ron Paul supporters gave him his winning edge, he has reason to take us seriously.

And with that, I give up.

Won't get fooled again. I guess thats what happens when you get around people with PRINCIPLES.

Also, as an aside, i really wanted to become a State delegate in Washington State. I got myself elected as a PCO 18 months ago. My wife also. She, like me wanted to go...very badly. Our county convention just finished last weekend, and before the convention i was in phone contact with RP leadership, and went to several meetings on strategy. I was under the assumption my wife and i would be on the 'identified Ron Paul delegates' slate. At the convention i found that a slate was being passed out of identified RP delegates. Just a few shy of a hundred on this list. My name, my wife and 2 kids were on it. Problem was it said 'DO NOT VOTE FOR THESE PEOPLE' in big red letters.

I found my RP leader and asked for the real slate. She hands me one. Every other name was a santorum delegate. My name and my wife were not on the slate. I spent 66 bucks, got up at 6am in the pouring rain with snow in it and drove 20 minutes to find i had to park 4 blocks away because the High School is under remodeling and the big parking lot is closed. Being 60 years old, recovering from congestive heart failure last year, and only to find out that i got ass fucked by my own people, and the NEOCONS, i was eliminated from further advancement into the delegate process. I have now decided that after this Tampa convention that i will no longer be getting involved in politics ever again. If Rand decides to run, the best i can do is MAYBE vote for him. Will see. My time here and my time in this R3VOLUTION will soon be over. If by some chance Ron gets elected President.....i will open a bottle of bubbly and say a toast to all of you in here as i log out permanently. Until then...i'm still here. I enjoy coming in here, although my spirit is broken.

Sounds like you had communication problems with your leadership.

We teamed up with Santorum all across Washington State out of necessity, because the Romney-loving party insiders pulled their Unity Slate crap. The unfortunate part of that is that many RP supporters who wanted to go to State could not, but the alternative was to send NO Ron Paul supporters to state. We had to vote for the Santorum people, and they had to vote for us, in order to block Romney.

As it stands, this alliance with Santorum has worked out completely in our advantage and we are winning the delegate race in Washington.

Kalk sucks and his current primary challenger sucks and I assume the democrat sucks. I'll be going third party.

You are hearing correctly, but delegates weren't chosen at the caucuses for the record.

Uh...no. No communication problem. I expressed SEVERAL times over the phone going to State was my goal, and the biggest reason for going for this apparent foolish exercise. I'm glad the strategy is working. I suppose in any R3VOLUTION there is going to be casualties.

Color me dead, and done. I just didn't expect to get killed by my own troops.

btw, i am in Snohomish County. The santorum/Paul tactic worked real well. Instead of one, we got two....woohoo.

Obviously the people making the slate didn't think you were likely to get enough votes to throw support behind. Given the way you conduct yourself here, I can't say I'm surprised.

I can respect that. I've often just not voted because I didn't like any of the choices. Still think it was worth getting Goettle out.

You are hearing correctly, but delegates weren't chosen at the caucuses for the record.

Yeah, it's obvious several in this thread don't know the process in ND at all. Which is fine, I don't know the process in other states...but I also don't pretend to.

Not true, but thanks for the insult. I was elected as a State Delegate in 2008 to Spokane, and nothing has changed. I'm sure it was because those in leadership were/are young, and have a prejudice towards baby boomers. I'm 60...donated hundreds to Ron, swayed lots of people as a Precinct Committee Officer, but i'm pretty convinced it was because of my age...no matter. Alienating 2 hardcore supporters is the way to go i suppose...over and OUT.

Well after you called me or at least implied I am a "good little neocon", did you expect me to be nice?

Obviously you were left off the slate because the people running the show felt the slate was better with other people on it. Maybe they felt like people had reasons to not vote for you. I don't know what that might have been. But ND definitely had Paul supporters that were eligible to be nominated that weren't. I wouldn't take it personally. Did the campaign's strategy work?

You have never been nice in this thread. Check back on your posts and the timeline. I believe 'dumbasses' is owned by you....no?

As to the rest of your diatribe, it actually is irrelevant to me, as i am moving away from this R3VOLUTION due to what transpired in my LEG. district 'strategy, but i will be donating more bucks to Ron on the 15th. Its the least i can do at this point.

RP..2 delegates
santorum 5
romney took the rest.

soooo...no, strategy failed.

I find it sad that you're willing to throw away your principles because you're butthurt that you didn't get nominated to be a delegate. The whole point of what we're trying to do at the convention is break down the paradigm of being able to buy delegate slots with campaign contributions. And you're trying to say because you've given a lot of money to Ron and put in your time that you should have been made a delegate. Poor.

Whether or not the strategy failed isn't necessarily determined by the delegate count. It depends on what the delegate count would have been if not for the strategy, though it does sound like the result was pretty similar to North Dakota, which I certainly wouldn't call success.

Kalk is a political opportunist. He's also very ambitious. He's not above using his military service to expedite his rise in the ranks of the republican party. He strikes me as someone wholly untrustworthy for office. I would put him in the same vain as an Allen West, Marco Rubio...tea party in name only.

May I suggest "I LOVE KALK" as his campaign slogan? haha :)

serious part:
We do need to make alliances and keep working on politicians that can be moved in the direction of liberty, particularly up-and-comers. Hopefully this Kalk fellow is very aware that it was the liberty movement that got him elected and if he doesn't know it, you guys in ND better make sure he's well aware of it. Ron Paul himself has said that we need to build coalitions and that the future of this movement is dependent on it and the changes won't happen overnight. We have to be careful not to be co-opted but there's nothing wrong with co-opting them ;)

I trust fellow Paulites to be smart enough to see when they're being co-opted. Making political friends is how this movement expands beyond the grassroots. Btw, I can't vouch for Kalk himself as I haven't heard of him prior to this thread so this is more about the big picture.
