BREAKING: Ron Paul First Place in West Virginia Delegates

It'll be more than that, these are just delegates that are running for the delegate slots. Example: Kanawha County has over 130+ delegates running for 51 slots.

The final numbers after the January vote will be much different. Many campaigns (including ours) are concentrated in 7 or 8 counties, so whomever wins those will have the majority going into the state convention.

Great Job Larry and Co!

Question....what will determine who (out of those 130+slots in Kanawha Co.) will get that 51 slots? How does it break down with who gets what % of votes in that county? <-- Meaning say RP gets 1st in voting in that county...does he get all the 51 delegate slots then? Thank you.

The vote will be for individual delegates themselves. The voters can vote for as many delegates as the county is allowed.

All counties will have online voting. Counties are also allowed to have county conventions, caucuses, or physical polling places. We will be compiling data on those and making it available to voters.

We did it!

Guys this is really great work.. a great effort on everybodys part in WV.. But dont get me wrong.. Technically RP hasnt won this state though correct? The 630 UNCOMMITTED delegates could vote however they want right? So we could still lose right?

Im from New Jersey. and I just want to make sure Im getting this right.

Yes those 630 can vote for whomever the choose. Paul could get a lot of them, or he could get none of them.

It means we have the most delegates signed up to be on the county ballots to the state convention, we have to work really hard the next 30 days on getting everyone elected, but short term we have some bragging rights.

WV is 50th in fundraising for Ron Paul, no paid staff at all, and we are beating 3 campaigns that worked the establishment and had paid state and county coordinators. This is entirely grassroots.

This is the truly great part of this

Yes, and there is no guarantee that all of the Ron Paul delegates who filed will make it past the election process.

But we will still win.

It doesn't mean we won the state, or will win the state.

HOWEVER, we made it past the FIRST hurdle as #1.

We have more work to do.

Yah I think there is some misundersatnding, he hasn't actually WON the state or any delegates.

Ron Paul just has the most "pledged" Delegates when the vote rolls around (Internet and Caucus, we should do well hopefully).

With 217 Delegates, if we could get somewhere like 180 of them it'd put us in a great position rolling into the convention with about 20% of the vote with the Uncommitted's that support Paul too.

If he wants to win WV, he'd better come.

With all the talk about Florida it was WV that Rove pulled out for Bush in 2000. Sending Bush to WV for a big rally the night before the election. WV matters! Algore wins WV he is POTUS.

From the NY Times:

THE 2000 CAMPAIGN: WEST VIRGINIA; Gore Is Trying to Catch Up In Democrat-Dominated State

By JANET BATTAILE

In politics, West Virginia is synonymous with Democrats.

They have controlled the Legislature for 70 years. They outnumber Republicans more than two to one among registered voters. They supported their standard-bearer in presidential races all but three times in the last half century.

Amazing, Amazing.... I hope the media picks it up.

Yes, we are over the first hurdle and charging forward with the momentum to win.

There is indeed a lot left to be done, but we're up for the challenge.

Also, our success depends a lot on Dr. Paul's performance in the key early primary states, especially New Hampshire. Victory there can potentially convince a lot of the uncommitted delegates to come to our side.

This just goes to show that every single person counts. This came down to a matter of 5 people for bragging rights and boost in morale.

Make sure you make the extra effort to bring that friend or family member into our revolution.

Great work WV!

Thanks, Josh. This forum you've set up for us had a lot to do with it!

GREAT WIN !!! Now get RON PAUL to WV !! And also to Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming , Nevada, these are states he is very strong in more presence more victories!

I'm a little concerned that on the day of the convention the other candidates will pool their delegates behind just one neocon to deny Paul a victory.

Hopefully the fact that this would be on 02/05 will prevent that. Everyone should still be in on that date, and that would prevent such a backroom deal from being struck.

I have a question hopefully someone can answer. What is the role of a delegate and how will it impact Ron Paul in the primaries and Republican nomination?

After reading this forum, I signed up to be a delegate at the local district/precinct. I've been told by my election office that delegates get the opportunity to vote on issues/policies effecting my area. It basically allows me to be proactive in my community. To get to the state level, I have to be elected, but the role is pretty much the same thing there. I will get an opportunity to be proactive and get to vote on issues/policies for the whole state. I don't understand how being a delegate relates to Ron Paul though. I have asked repeatedly and people won't tell me. Can someone tell me why Ron Paul needs delegates?

Did a little math: if the 630 uncommitted delegates split up according to the percentages that each candidate is receiving in the national polls at the moment (there hasn't been a state-wide poll since April) according to the RealClearPolitics average, then the totals will come out to:

Mitt Romney - 278
Ron Paul - 247
Fred Thompson - 247
Mike Huckabee - 147
Rudy Giuliani - 113
John McCain - 28

I think Mike Huckabee's rise is going to take from Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson, so it could be that after the uncommitted delegates commit, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson won't be that high, and Mike Huckabee will be a bit higher, which might leave Ron Paul still eeking by in first place, even after the uncommitted delegates have been allocated. Even if Romney still ends up in first place, tying for second place in the number of delegates is damn good for a "longshot fringe" candidate, and it's going to surprise a lot of people.
