You could have a Governor, Secretary of State and the state legislature all send different slates of electors to vote on December 14, and they could all vote for different candidates. We won't even really find out until January 6 when they officially count the elector ballots, at which point electors can be challenged - the electors sent by the state legislatures would be the legal, valid electors and the other ballots could be challenged and thrown out.

I don't know that there is anything saying that the state legislature can't certify the election, select the electors, then later un-certify and select new electors before the deadline. Anybody know? I think this whole idea that everything just gets set in stone and there is no way to change it is probably just some kind of fake news narrative, sorta like how they are already calling Biden President elect.
