Bold prediction: Paul will be on the ticket in 2012

Yep. My thought exactly.

It will be either.

Paul/Paul
Paul/????
Mitt/Paul (Rand)

LOL, you think Mitt would ask Rand to be his running mate?? And you think Rand would accept?? Very strange ideas. I wouldn't vote for Mitt even if Rand was on the ticket, and I doubt anyone else would either.

Are you serious? Johnson won't garner more than 1% nationally.

This. And probably more like the standard 0.4%. Johnson couldn't even raise money or attention as a major party candidate. He will be lucky to match the money and enthusiasm of Michael Badnarik.

And NO Republican nominee not named Paul is going to ask a Paul to be a running mate.

Possibility 1: Ron Paul gets the nomination, Rand or other person is VP
Possibility 2: Ron Paul does not get the nomination. Gary Johnson goes LP. Polls show that GJ gets 10% from (R). Rand Paul is chosen as VP to neutralize Johnson

Link to poll showing Johnson taking said percentage from the Republican?

Point of this thread is that if Ron Paul is not nominated, GOP will try to find a way to appease pissed off Ron Paul voters. Offering Rand Paul the V.P. spot would help to get RP voters in line.
Right. Makes sense. And unless the Republican nominee is one who is believed to lack experience, one would argue that Rand would be the better choice.

If there was a deadlocked convention, and Palin got in, I'd see Palin / Ron Paul. If Bachmann got the nomination, Ron Paul's experience might be reassuring. Romney is not seen as inexperienced, Gingrich is not seen as inexperienced, Santorum is not seen as inexperienced. Huntsman is not seen as inexperienced. Perry isn't seen as inexperienced (lacking mental abilities perhaps, but not inexperienced).

Thats reasonable conventional wisdom, certainly, but they might want to avoid losing Ron Paul votes. People who can read polls understand that Ron Paul, and presumably Rand as well, will be bringing in votes they wouldn't be getting otherwise.
