When I saw this I was shocked. I don't see where he says he's going to bail anyone out. In fact I got this e-mail yesterday from the Barr campaign:

Many Americans have been paying close attention to the housing loan situation that has caused the FDIC to close one bank and the federal treasury (that means YOUR tax dollars) to prop up the two government-backed organizations known as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Yesterday I was on Fox News' "Your World with Neil Cavuto" and I said that first and foremost we need to protect tax payer interests. Government intervention in the free market is to blame for the problem. The long term solution is a complete overhaul of how our federal financial systems operate.

Don't look for the Democrats or Republicans to tackle the root of this problem.

Because THEY ARE THE PROBLEM.

When the programs of big government fail - and they always do - both parties run out to propose still more programs. You and I know that this is not the answer.

It appears that people haven't really watched the video (scroll up from the initial link) and haven't really read Barr's stance on this from his website. See the link that Kludge provided.
 
Another reason people should not go to the internet for their information. :p

There ALREADY exists a PERMANENT line of credit for the GSEs at Treasury. Your characterization of his alleged support for a bailout shows how you don't know what you're talking about. Barr says we should eliminate the PERMANENT line of credit which should be made "TEMPORARY" as part of a long-term plan of safeguarding taxpayers.

So, ending a government entitlement to corporate welfare recipients is your reason for supporting Baldwin? Fits with their dirigiste policies nicely. ;)
 
Really shows you how enthusiastic people are becoming about incriminating Barr. This is getting sad.

If Baldwin truly represents the non-interventionist position here, I'd like to see Barr and Baldwin debate on this. I'm sure Barr has his reasons - one can't expect to turn the whole economy on a dime in an instant. And maybe that's not good enough, maybe Baldwin does score points over Barr on this topic, but Barr is still, by far, the more libertarian of the two. If there are more libertarian candidates on the ballot in your state - do consider them. But it seems like Barr is the most libertarian candidate most people can vote for, and definitely the only one with a real chance of making it into televised debates and attaining mainstream support.
 
He was nowhere near the perfect candidate before or after this. I think I will probably vote for him (although I'm an anarchist) with the intention of growing the LP.
 
It doesn't matter if Barr is still secretly a big government interventionist because that's what we're gonna get with McCain or Obama anyway. So if we're gonna get a big government interventionist it may as well be the one that loosens the two party stranglehold on the government and pushes the Libertarian Party to the front of the American consciousness. Then more people will realize that they are actually more libertarian than anything else and start voting for true libertarian candidates.
 
If Barr is a tad more moderate, perhaps they won't run him off the media before we can get his poll numbers up and get him in the debates. Barr is not going to win..we know that, but why not use him as a means to an end, to gain ground for a third party. Baldwin just does not have the opportunity to do this. The disgruntled folks from the two major parties will listen to him and resonate with his words ...Ron Paul was the best..but we don't have him running anymore..darnit. We can use Barr ..and he is aware of this. tones
