One way to make this event big is to turn it into a cultural phenomenom. Make it minimal. Make it art.
Here's one of my ideas: use your own face and black it out on facebook, or on whatever avatars you have:
Here's how you do it:
1. Find a good photo of you. Crop the image to only your face.
2. Desaturate the image/remove color.
3. Apply ultra-extreme contrast. Make the blacks black and the whites white.
4. Black out your face with a black bar across your eyes. The bar can be slightly-transparent (95% opaque) to give a little extra depth to it. Adding a 2% noise gives a nice effect as well.
