A State Department spokesperson this month told media outlets that it "continues to have serious concerns" about the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq, or MEK, including long-standing allegations about abuse committed against its members.

"As we have said, while the United States revoked the designation of the MEK as a foreign terrorist organization in September 2012, the United States does not see the MEK as a viable democratic opposition movement that is representative of the Iranian people," a spokesperson said.
