Best Cleanse For Me?

Hello, I've been scanning the master cleanse thread, which has been quite informative.

I've been contemplating a cleanse for a while now. I tried a raw foods diet but only lasted 4 days. I think trying to do it over the course of my normal daily routine was too difficult. Friends would invite me over for BBQs, beers, roommate would cook something awesome, etc. I gave up.

But I'm taking the month of June off and will be staying at a cottage while I blitz through a number of the tomes of Austrian Economics (I ordered 21 books from mises.org). I figure I might as well attack any health problems that may be lurking under the surface at the same time.

I am not overweight by any stretch of the imagination. If anything, I should gain weight. But I have a very fast metabolism and am not quite at the age yet (27,m) where it starts to build up around the midsection. Additionally, I eat very well. I can't even eat sugar anymore. Processed food makes me gag. But I do like to drink beer and wine (although seldom excessively anymore). I also enjoy smoking anything (but am not addicted to any of it either). I'm probably in better health than 90% of people I know.

What I do have are some lingering motivational problems, an inability to concentrate fully, daydreaming, etc. I want that gone. I feel like it takes me twice as long to read or write something than it should. I work in an industry that requires me to read an ungodly amount of material daily. I am then required to remember that and reference it in my own writing. I want to be able to condense these activities into 4 or 5 hours a day while maintaining or improving comprehension. And I'm pretty sure that if I get rid of much of the toxins in my body, I will have a better chance of achieving that.

What cleanses would be best considered "mental cleanses" and where can I find information on that? I understand that cleansing other organs (colon probably) may achieve this better. Additionally, what vitamins or minerals would be of assistance in improving concentration and memory?

Thanks in advance!

definitely some mercury free fish oil would be good. You can order it from mercola.com....I don't know much about cleanses, though.

The lemonade diet is great for a general cleanse, even though you are healthy now there is no reason not to do it. It will still provide some help with energy levels and focus.

Another one you might try is the heavy metal cleanse.

I'm no expert, but I would think that doing the lemonade diet, then starting the heavy metal cleanse as you're coming off of the lemonade diet would be optimal, after that initial day of eating only fruit and once you get back to eating vegetables.

Being veggie is really tough...

A lot of people think that if you have a veggie diet you can't eat meat. I don't know where that comes from, other than the strict definition, but I know some vegetarians and meat eaters who are VERY adamant that if you eat just one little piece of meat after months of abstaining then suddenly you're not "vegetarian". Well, I believe this does a great disservice because a primarily vegetarian diet with occasional meat is EXTREMELY healthy. They came up with a word for this a few years ago called "flexitarian" but it never really stuck.

The point is you should eat raw vegan organic when you can, and you should be vegetarian when you can, especially if it makes you feel better.. but that doesn't mean you have to do it all of the time.

There is some weird psychology in this country that you either have to eat meat every day or nearly everyday or never.

I agree danno. While we eat meat nearly everday, it is in VERY small portions, and we eat MUCH more veggies and fruit.

Thanks for the info. Do you think it is okay to take the fish oil while on the lemonade cleanse?

Was just reading about B vitamins. Very important for memory and concentration, especially if you drink alcohol and/or don't eat enough. Alcohol blocks absorption.

Anyone know or recommend a good B Complex supplement? (In addition to good diet of course)

No, don't do it, but before and after is ok. You really aren't supposed to take anything during the cleanse, except for a few things that help with the cleanse such as the salt flush, and I also took some pills that helped get rid of the mucus in the intestines, but that isn't necessary because that is what the cayenne pepper is for... but I had allergies and the person who prompted me to go on the diet gave them to me.

I'd like to introduce you to my friend Tony the Tiger (again.) Seriously though, you need to be careful about B-Vitamin supplements. Supplements, even very high level ones (I've got a couple bottles here that contain 5000% of my daily B6 and 8333% of B12), aren't dangerous so long as you never take them in excess. Attempting to supplement B vitamins from several different sources though, can result in some pretty nasty toxicity effects.

Yeah, I would only take a supplement if I had a deficiency. He had mentioned alcohol, which can cause a B deficiency. I would never waste my money on those super high content supplements. I would only use the minimum ones. (between 5mg and 50mg Thiamin in a B-Complex for instance).

Yes, some people go toxic with their supplements, especially fat soluble ones. B vitamins (like C) are water soluble, so excess is flushed very quickly, which makes high potency pills a waste.

Second, I wouldn't recommend the colon cleanses other forum members tend to swear by.

I'll second that. Colon cleanse is pure quackery (no offense to the true believers). I want to punch that guy that does the commercial that says "you have 30 pounds of stuff stuck to your colon wall like spackle or paste". Pure BS.

Indeed they do. I'll tell my roommate to stop taking them when he loses feeling in his extremities.

I personally don't take a specific vitamin, but after some digging I came across: http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=VS-4206

It's hard to find dosages lower than that, but as I've said, I don't have a ton of experience in that area.

Yeah, the 50s seem to be the minimum in B-Complex vitamin pills. I'll probably get those and cut them in half...
