It's not intended to help the Liberty Movement, it's intended to damage the Liberty Movement. Benton is an important ally of said movement while Fusaro is its enemy.

There are three obvious reasons to secretly record conversations:

1. Someone is threatening you. (Obviously not the case here).
2. You want to get blackmail information. (Possible).
3. You want to get information to discredit or destroy someone. (Which is currently happening).

This guy has been around since 2008. It would be logical to assume he has been a mole the entire time. The good news here is that the only thing he could come up with is someone saying that are "holding their nose" doing their current job. Big deal.

That depends on the state that you're in. In Tennessee you can record any conversation that you are a party to with or without the other person's consent. And that makes sense. Otherwise who would "hidden camera" investigative journalism work?
