elle: Thank you for this great debate.
7:59
TYLER SIESWERDA / KVUE: Great comments everyone. Thanks for taking part.
7:59
[Comment From RobertWR]
Elle, KBH just sounded like a commercial. Perry is pretty good in closing comments. Medina is reading comments, but she has thought her through.
7:59
[Comment From murray]
Perry nailed it during the debate, weathering attacks from both sides.
7:59
[Comment From Echevarria]

7:59
[Comment From Nancy in Baytown]
Campos/WFAA - too prepared? No, I think it's a good thing for a governor to be prepared.
7:59
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: Thank you, Prof. Stein!
7:59
[Comment From margaret]
issue not discussed - texas students having very low standardized test scores
7:59
[Comment From Fernando]
the ladies are much better than the only man up there
7:59
bob stein khou: Good night
7:59
[Comment From Scott]
Now is the time to attack...go Medna
7:58
[Comment From Brant Robinette]
Good post Will! Vote for VALUES not for issues. Issues change and can be skewed, values hold strong and true and can be applied to anything that occurs.
7:58
[Comment From Brian G. R.]
Perry is sold out to big government. Hutchison is sold out to big government. Medina sounds like she wants a small government and a BIG People.
7:58
[Comment From Jeremy]
She's a U.S. Senator...scripted comes with the territory.
7:58
[Comment From Gavy]
KBH is not too prepared
7:58
[Comment From Echevarria]
gun rights, constitutional rights, and a government that believes and follows the constitution before passing any type of legislation.
7:58
[Comment From GoSaints]
Medina is head and shoulders above Perry who is head and shoulders above KBH.
7:58
[Comment From Andy]
Most important issue: States rights: Don't bow down to the Feds, who bow down to global interests
7:58
[Comment From Fernando]
I think cracking the whip on the Federal government is important
7:58
[Comment From KaHarold]
I'am a college graduate and i would like to ask all three canidates what would they do for people with felony convictions that cannot seek employment even with convictions.
7:58
[Comment From Nancy in Baytown]
Tyler Sieswerda - The most important issue for us in this house is safety and security. We are doing OK with the job situation. We want our borders secured.
7:58
[Comment From Tab]
God is what he bases his judgements on...it's his moral compass
7:58
[Comment From Larry]
Former KBH supporter now voting for DEBRA MEDINA!! I was very impressed tonight. Get rid of the property tax!
7:58
[Comment From Kaitlyn Sooter]
I don't understand why a drop out rate is the problem of the state?
7:58
elle: Great closing remarks by Perry and KBH so far....
7:58
[Comment From kdp11]
redlight camera $ goes where
7:58
[Comment From Jericho McCain]
kay.. we dont have private property.. jeesh.. wake up
7:57
CAMPOS/WFAA: KBH coming with a strong finish. But too prepared?
7:57
[Comment From Will in Euless]
I am not an issues voter. I am a values voter. I vote for the candidate that I feel matches my values the best.
7:57
[Comment From John]
The most important issue for me is the rule of law!!!!!!!!!!!
7:57
[Comment From Sharon]
How many of you are Native Texans?
7:57
[Comment From Guest]
Great closing remarks Perry, you definitely have my vote! Woot!
7:57
[Comment From Sandy]
Perry should never mention God
7:57
[Comment From Landon]
Perry has proved himself over the years
7:56
[Comment From Rick S]
As KBH said the TTC idea is still alive and well
7:56
[Comment From Joe in Arlington]
If there's a runoff it will be between Medina & Perry
7:56
[Comment From taryn in arlington]
Poq: Yes, in the question that they asked Medina. Only she answered it though.
7:56
elle: Thank you to BELO and the candidates for taking the time to participate in this chat to help us make our decision for the next Governor for this great state.
7:56
[Comment From bryan]
TTC is alive KBH is right
7:56
[Comment From Frank]
Excellent debate
7:56
[Comment From Honey Farms]
Perry put bow hunters at risk. Why????
7:56
[Comment From Brian T]
Texas is #1 in SPITE of you, Perry! How come you can't see that? It's WE TEXANS that make TEXAS GREAT!
7:56
TYLER SIESWERDA / KVUE: When it comes to your vote... what's the most important issue?
7:56
[Comment From James429]
I had never heard of Madina before but she is winning this debate and she has won my vote.
7:56
[Comment From GoSaints]
Medina is not a RINO! She is a Constitutionalist.
7:56
[Comment From Guest]
Yes, 2nd amendment and open carry
7:56
[Comment From margaret]
transportation is not an emotional issue - it's just what kbh has decided to promote on her advertising campaign
7:56
[Comment From Fernando]
we seriously need to drop Perry already
7:56
bob stein khou: My sense is that the issues discussed in this debate --transportation and taxes are concerns of republican voters, but not necessarily the major concerns of all texans
7:56
[Comment From KathyJB]
Transportation takes away private property
7:56
[Comment From Brian in granbury]
because we are stuck in traffic for hours everyday
7:56
CAMPOS/WFAA: if it's jobs, jobs, jobs--How many of you are unemployed or underemployed?
7:55
[Comment From poq]
I missed the beginning, did they cover the 10th ammendment, state sovereingty, nullification and interposition?
7:55
[Comment From David K]
Transportation is critical to getting to and from work.
7:55
[Comment From J. Jesse]
PS Even the Austin American Statesman says the TTC is DEAD.
7:55
[Comment From BigTex]
Will you accept federal bailouts
7:55
[Comment From Brant Robinette]
I want to know who supports open carry, since Texas is one of the FEW states that do NOT allow it.
7:55
[Comment From Kevin]
Governor Perry, why aren't Texans allowed to carry their privately owned weapons at any time they want?
7:55
[Comment From Bobby]
Medina represents Texas's rights better than KBH. Let's send her to Washington to help protect Texas from Washington.
7:55
[Comment From kat]
Gloria, JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!
7:55
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: Why do you think transportation is such an emotional issue?
7:55
[Comment From gopkat]
Medina will not support the Republican nominee if she doesn't win - she's a RINO
7:55
[Comment From VickiS]
i would like to hear about those surcharges ,, that we have millions of drivers ,,,driving without licenses
7:55
[Comment From Walter]
Ask them all about open carry in Texas
7:55
[Comment From Pogo]
stabalizing education....how will the candidates prioritize it?
7:54
[Comment From NathanD]
Sales tax would also be charged to people traveling through Texas, not just residents
7:54
bob stein khou: School financing was not discussed, air quality and health care coverage for minors seem to issues that deserve some attention
7:54
[Comment From Guest]
Open carry, where do the candidates stand?
7:54
[Comment From Anna]
Grandparents right..........what is the STATE doing for grandparents in the process for adopting grandkids?
7:54
[Comment From David K]
"How are you going to reduce the burden of government?"
7:54
[Comment From margaret]
Yes, ask Medina her thoughts on the TX Enterprise Fund
7:54
[Comment From wil in new york]
Keith, most municipalities in Texas have gone to the maximum allowable sales tax already.
7:54
[Comment From Euless]
Hey, Perry, how about getting rid of front license plates and cutting my auto registration fee???
7:54
[Comment From simulacrum]
i like perry, but i'm going for medina. the politicians sound like politicians. medina sounds like a person.
7:54
[Comment From Jake]
Texans first. Not the federal government. I'm going with Medina. She is the only one up there who talks like a real Texan.
7:54
CAMPOS/WFAA: We are running out of time, is there a topic the panelists didn't cover, you would like to know about?
7:54
[Comment From KathyJB]
I still see signs stating TxDot get off my property
7:53
[Comment From poq]
If the sales tax is increased to compensate for property tax, you'll see a surge of people demand less government and lower sales tax. Fine by me.
7:53
[Comment From cooler]
if you don't have income or property tax you'll have a lot more money in your pocket to SPEND.
7:53
[Comment From Keith]
Why not pay 14% we already pay 8.25% here, though some of it goes to local governement
7:53
[Comment From mwiegand]
panelists did very well
7:53
[Comment From Andy]
who cares about PARTY unity. Its a about CITIZEN unity in general, and today about TEXAN unity
7:53
[Comment From Sandy]
TTC will be Perry's undoing.
7:52
elle: The panelists were very well prepared with their questions.
7:52
[Comment From kdp11]
what about the food stamp program for the children
7:52
[Comment From gopkat]
government can't make people wealthy - but it CAN get it's hands out of your pockets
7:52
[Comment From Dentonlandia]
This is productive; it decides the direction of the party. I'd rather see some brass tacks than substance-free photo-ops for "party unity."
7:52
[Comment From wil in new york]
You already pay 7% (minimum) on every purchase.
7:52
[Comment From VickiS]
when are they are goin to stop those double jeopardy surcharges?
7:52
[Comment From DrivinBrad]
did rick perry just choke on medinas comments?
7:52
[Comment From Fernando]
only the republican have open primaries
7:51
[Comment From rs]
Medina is going to make everybody more wealthy except for the big government hacks.
7:51
bob stein khou: What might a run-off election betwen Perry and Hutchinson do for republican party unity in november, not to mention the demand for campaign funds?
7:51
[Comment From GaltsGirl]
Those who dont own property are still building a freer, more prosperous state for themselves and their children
7:51
[Comment From Jericho McCain]
the message of liberty will always prevail, eventually
7:51
[Comment From CJ]
food is not taxed and rent would go down how is that bad for students?
7:51
[Comment From SherryDFW]
Since when is a sales tax a fair tax? I was always told in economics classes that it is a regressive tax which places a higher burden on people in the lower income brackets.
7:51
[Comment From Guest]
LOL, my wife just walked in and said she likes Medina cause she talks like a Texan!
7:51
[Comment From wil in new york]
Campos - I just might.
7:51
[Comment From sw]
taryn- texas has open primaries, so anyone can choose which party's primary to vote in each election cycle.
7:51
[Comment From gopkat]
just have to be a registered voter. we have open primaries - but u can only vote in 1 party.
7:51
[Comment From Brian T]
I will definitely contribute to her campaign after seeing that she can back up her talk!
7:51
[Comment From Brian G. R.]
The drug war is a failure. The D. Program has been a failure.
7:51
[Comment From Zach]
Have you ever purchased a CAR? House? Or sack of Groveries? Do it at 15% and see hoe much you like her, it may even be higher than 15%.
7:51
[Comment From Roberto]
All politicians are on the take!
7:51
[Comment From bryan]
I hate property taxes
7:51
[Comment From Nancy in Baytown]
I get tired of this "first time property owner" mess. What about those of us who own property, and had to work hard to get it???
7:50
Martin Bartlett/KVUE: If Medina doesn't make it to the general election, does all this GOP trash talk help Bill White (or Farouk Shami)?
7:50
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: Median again with the state tax proposal. I'm curious if you think she could get it passed as gov?
7:50
[Comment From GaltsGirl]
Stephanie, wouldnt you like to actually OWN it one day, tho?
7:50
TYLER SIESWERDA / KVUE: What about people who don't own property?
7:50
[Comment From David K]
Jeff: You neglect that the property tax would go away. You would OWN YOUR HOUSE! Rather than renting it from the state. You'd only pay taxes on things you purchase.
7:50
CAMPOS/WFAA: Medina can't win without $$$, will you dig into your pockets to get her elected???
7:50
[Comment From Jeannie]
I think Medina won this.
7:50
[Comment From Rita]
KBH looks at her with admiration
7:50
[Comment From Honey Farms]
No run off. Just vote for the consitutional canidate - Medina!
7:50
[Comment From Brian T]
I would rather buy my property and pay for it once, not rent it from the government
7:50
[Comment From Scotty]
15% is the MAXIMUM
7:50
[Comment From taryn in arlington]
Do you have to be a registered Republican to vote in the primary for these three?
7:50
[Comment From Stephanie]
Medina! I'm a college student and I don't own property!!! If you want to raise the sales tax to reduce property taxes that will hurt me and those who don't own property most!!!
7:50
[Comment From Guest]
Sick of Perry... Sick of politicians as well. Give me some funky cold Media
7:50
[Comment From RobertWR]
Housing will be much cheaper!
7:50
[Comment From JohnL4Medina]
Perry and KBH are going to lose. Texans know Common Sense and character when we see it! Medina for sure. Get out and make it happen!
7:50
[Comment From KathyJB]
Perry looks worried
7:50
[Comment From gopkat]
medina doesn't have a chance - legalized drugs???
7:49
[Comment From Lee]
the limited gains tax is a corporate income tax guv perry
7:49
[Comment From mwiegand]
I'd faint if we could get rid of property taxes, loving Medina's ideas
7:49
[Comment From Zach]
Medina can NEVER get a 15% or higher consumption tax through the TEXAS House..
7:49
[Comment From Jim]
Not a dime's worth of difference between RP & KBH
7:49
[Comment From We the People]
Kay is not honest.
7:49
[Comment From Joshua Gregory]
I can't believe that as an out of state student I pay three times the tuition as an illegal immigrant. Not only that, but even after establishing citizenship I would be required to buy property or get married to another resident before I'm eligible for in-state tuition fees.
7:49
[Comment From Brant Robinette]
The apathy of voting for the candidate that you think can win against the other "party" instead of voting for the person representing VALUE is what got our country into a mess for decades now, DON'T be a part of continuing that!
7:49
[Comment From Diane]
Tyler, I'm moving toward Gov. Perry from Senator Hutchinson.
7:49
[Comment From rs]
Medina is somebody that the founding fathers would be proud of
7:49
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: My thoughts on Medina: She's certainly qualified and was well prepared tonight, but it seems her main platform is enacting a state sales tax. Campaign promise, or would she get it if as gov?
7:49
[Comment From Brian G. R.]
Perry and Kay are big spenders. They have proved that already.
7:49
[Comment From monica/Buffalo]
I think Medina might win March 2nd outright
7:49
[Comment From sw]
medina has won my vote in this debate.
7:49
[Comment From FrankRep]
Debra Medina is a true stateswomen!
7:49
[Comment From RobertWR]
I think Perry will win, but I'd sure like to give Medina a shot.
7:49
[Comment From Guest]
KBH hasn't answered a question directly the entire night!
7:49
[Comment From Brian T]
If you think Medina should be the candidate, please vote for her in the primary! A vote cast is never a vote wasted
7:49
[Comment From Tab]
ok debate, let's not get carried away...the trivia questions are dumb as well as the social security quedtion
7:49
[Comment From RobertWR]
KBH has forgotten how to answer directly.
7:49
[Comment From vonnie]
This has been a very difficult ecoomic environment due to circumstances beyond the control of Gov Perry..It is not at all unreasonable that agreements on the Enterprise Fund would include some renogotiations.
7:49
[Comment From William Doright]
Did KBH not just here that the TEF needs to be approved by both the Lite Guv and the Speaker?
7:48
[Comment From Sharon]
KBH should be using a fixing the roads approach like Laura Miller did. hey where is she anyway?
7:48
[Comment From Jericho McCain]
Perry = Hutchison.. same thing, people. Use your head..
7:48
[Comment From cyndeZu]
Perry, throw the bum out
7:48
[Comment From guest from austin]
I don't want to see any increases in taxes until every one's spending is audited and elected officials are controlled in their spending.
7:48
[Comment From Lee]
does perry answer a question?
7:48
[Comment From Scotty]
Medina will be IN the runoff!
7:48
[Comment From Jason]
If she wins the republican nomination money won't be a problem.
7:48
[Comment From Guest]
I hope perry doesn't get it
7:48
[Comment From Ed Rocket]
KBH won't answer the question directly
7:48
[Comment From RobertWR]
Don't need KBH -- too moderate for this State -- been in D.C. too long. Takes stimulus $$. Voted for pork barrel bills there.
7:48
[Comment From Tuyen, Fort Worth,]
the weakest candidate is Senator.
7:48
[Comment From Texas]
i think medina is a joke
7:48
[Comment From Kaitlyn Sooter]
Sen. Broken Record.
7:48
[Comment From carmaphob]
Kudos to Belo. Great Debate!

Part 2/3

[Comment From Texas GO!]
I WILL NOT VOTE WHITE IF PERRY'S THE NOMINEE. He's the one who had the audacity to install speeding cameras in the City of Houston. NO WAY!
7:48
elle: I believe Medina just made this an interesting primary.
7:48
[Comment From flea]
Good luck Debra Medina. TX the most corrupt state in the union.
7:48
[Comment From hailey.]
medina said we don't have an income tax, its hidden taxes. if you taqx the rich too much they leave the state, and they take jobs with them. we get jobs from rich people-- taking more money from them will not make you more rich. it will only hurt the economy.
7:48
[Comment From Guest]
We will have a run-off due to Medina
7:48
[Comment From Keith]
Perry deserves tough questions, too bad he can't answer any of them.
7:48
[Comment From Barnett Shale]
Medina more in touch with how texans feel
7:48
[Comment From Frank]
Oh no not the darned corridor again!!
7:48
elle: Medina
7:47
CAMPOS/WFAA: The governor was not preparing when I popped in to say hello. Medina was and KBH was coming out of the ladies room so I didn't see her "war room."
7:47
[Comment From Lippie Stimulus]
I'm very disappointed in Senator Hutchison and could never vote for her given her voting record in the senate. I'm just learning about Medina and she sounds like someone Texas needs right now.
7:47
[Comment From bucfish]
KBH was most scripted or as you say prepared
7:47
[Comment From Kevin]
Please answer the question KBH!
7:47
[Comment From Doug Garnett]
Perry is changing the questions to fit what he wants his answer to be.....he is doing a greast sidestep along with KBH
7:47
bob stein khou: I think Medina's share of Republican primary vote may rise with this debate. It seems to me she has forced a run-off between Perry and Hutchinson
7:47
[Comment From Larry]
This debate forum should be a pattern for the presidential debates
7:47
[Comment From Bobby]
How come the media focuses on the 'bad' and 'not as bad' instead of the goodness of Medina?
7:47
[Comment From Will in Euless]
Medina does not has the financial backing of her opponents. That matters.
7:47
[Comment From Brian T]
I agree! Don't vote on 'viability' vote on who you think will do the best job...if everyone does that, Medina will win
7:47
[Comment From Michael]
Perry and Hutchison are "stealing" votes from MEDINA!
7:47
[Comment From bucfish]
I think Medina wass most honest
7:47
[Comment From luke]
wow i changed from perry to Medina
7:47
[Comment From SouthwestAndy]
Slater is calling him out, revealing who he really is and what he stands for. This is a side of Perry we need to know and see. With all his backdoor dealings.
7:47
[Comment From Anna]
Medina was very prepared
7:47
[Comment From AggieLvr09]
Bill White has done well for Houston....
7:47
[Comment From Jeremy]
KBH seems more prepared then she was last time
7:47
[Comment From gopkat]
Slater is fine. Tough office deserves tough questions. Good job.
7:47
[Comment From Guest]
hutchison and perry will split the votes for medina
7:47
[Comment From Sam Bass]
How is a program that has brought real jobs to Texas a problem?
7:47
[Comment From Guest]
vote for principal, not the fake strategy of voting for globalists
7:47
elle: No, Wayne Slater is not being too tough.
7:46
[Comment From Jeff Cambeis]
If you are worried medina will split the vote make sure she wins the nomination!
7:46
CAMPOS/WFAA: Check out Dallas Morning News article 1-28-2010 on TEXAS ENTERPRISE FUND. STUDY indicates the firms receiving state money not living up to their pledges to create more jobs for Texans
7:46
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: Perry told reporters today he did not prepare for this debate. Does it show? Who was the most prepared tonight?
7:46
[Comment From RobertWR]
I like Perry's poise and I like him as a person. But I don't like the small business tax he passed. It is hurting some small businesses here in ARlington -- including my mechanic.
7:46
bob stein khou: Does any think that KBH supporters will vote for Bill White should Perry is the Republican nominee?

7:44
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: Wow. the debate is 3/4 over. Fun times go by fast. I love politics, especially texas politics.
7:44
[Comment From Tom]
I'm convinced that Medina is more like me than the Pros.
7:44
[Comment From Rolland]
I'm voting for MEDINA!!!

7:44
[Comment From Gavy]
No, I have no changed my vote.
7:44

Income tax is nothing but a "spread the wealth around" socialist scheme.
7:43
[Comment From Brian G. R.]
Absolutely Medina! Get the prosperity working for us... GET RID OF PROPERTY TAXES AND INCOME TAXES!!! WAY TO GO!
7:43
[Comment From monica/Buffalo]
she is right about comsumption tax. those that spend the most money (rich) will support the state. you decide what tax you pay by how much you consume
7:43
bob stein khou: Good question on teacher's inability to retain their full social secuirty benefits after becoming teachers
7:42
elle: BELO, I hope we can do another longer debate because I think it shows who is best qualified to represent the state of Texas. Very well done.
7:42
[Comment From J. Jesse]
Spending campaign money on personal clothes, is that the new fresh face and ideas y'all want?
7:42
[Comment From Guest]
Medina's poll number should definitely rise after this debate tonight.
7:42
[Comment From Scott]
Stop patting yourself on the back BELO
7:42
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: Medina with the state sales tax proposal again. How would this help you save $?
7:42
CAMPOS/WFAA: I believe Texas history is taught in 7th grade. KBH is 66, and Perry turns 60 days after the March primary-maybe another question would be what kind of grade did you make then?
7:42
[Comment From Sam Bass]
She is wrong- Texas doe not have a income tax
7:42
[Comment From Laurie]
Wealthy spend more so they will pay more tax
7:42
[Comment From Brant Robinette]
Graduated tax is a "progressive" tax, which stands upon no value of fairness or Constitutional mandate. Progressive tax systems are incompatible with the American society.
7:42
[Comment From Brian T]
I'm glad BELO included Medina, I'm liking what I hear from her
7:42
[Comment From J. Jesse]
NO STATE INCOME TAX, please

7:41
CAMPOS/WFAA: Since Perry and KBH could be considered career politicians? Does this mean they are OUT OF TOUCH w/the average TexaN?
7:41
elle: I believe the questions are good.
7:40
[Comment From Libby]
half the people in TX couldn't answer that 1st Gov question..I know b/c I taught it

7:39
[Comment From GoSaints]
I love the way they are being called to account for their previous statements.
7:39
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: It's stump the candidate time. Is this fair? Seems a little trivial to me? Your thoughts.
7:39
CAMPOS/WFAA: now how many of you knew who was first gov oF Texas?
7:39
elle: This debate is very well done. I hope BELO can do more.
7:39
[Comment From Guest]
That just shows how out of touch KBH is with Texas, can't even name the first governor!
7:39
[Comment From Landon]
Kay looked like dumb on that question
7:39
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: OK, who knows?
7:39
[Comment From Sharon]

7:38
[Comment From Independent Patti]
I bet Medina KNOWS!
7:38
[Comment From bucfish]

What was with the wink? That was so sexist.
7:38
[Comment From NathanD]
woops!
7:38
[Comment From Houston Harry]
Awesome debate. Go Belo
7:38
[Comment From Guest]
100.5 miles of border fence.....that's shameful for KBH since she is so "concerned" about border security.
7:38
Martin Bartlett/KVUE: What do you think about Perry's stance when he gets backed into a corner?
7:38
[Comment From Will in Euless]
This feels like Jeoperdy
7:38
TYLER SIESWERDA / KVUE: Are these questions fair for the candidates?
7:38
[Comment From Dentonlandia]
Gov. Perry just lost me on in-state tuition (I came here from Ohio). He's putting Texas residency over U.S. citizenship. I don't like it.
7:38
[Comment From PolitcalJunkie]
I don't see a similarity between Medina and Palin except for the fact that they are both women who wear glasses.
7:37
[Comment From RickandKayatemybaby]
Christine, Perry lives in a dillusional wonderland.
7:37
[Comment From Jason]
This debate rocks!
7:37
[Comment From Texas]
Gov Perry is not going to leave his next 4 year term
7:37
[Comment From Brian G. R.]
Joe - I am beginning to agree with you about Medina
7:37
[Comment From Guest]
He can't answer clearly, he must be qualified for POTUS
7:37
[Comment From cyndeZu]
Texas deserves better
7:37
Christine/KHOU/Houston: Governor Perry should know how many jobs were created in Texas. FAIL.
7:36
[Comment From Laurie]
Medina and Palin would be awsome
7:36
[Comment From Guest]
Perry does not believe in answers, he only makes vague statements.
7:36
[Comment From Laurie]
I don't think he would run
7:36
[Comment From Joe]
Perry can go campaign for Prez on his own dime. Give us a Gov who will work for TEXAS. Go MEDINA.
7:36
[Comment From Brenda]
Gov. Perry speaks out of both sides of his mouth concerning the bill for illegals to get into our schools at the in state rate while he still maintains that he is guarding our borders. It can't be both ways. "I like to dance a little sidestep"
7:36
[Comment From twinkle]
You are right Campos!
7:36
[Comment From Brian G. R.]
Is Perry going to answer a question he is asked ... ever?
7:36
[Comment From BoB]
So, we've all read Texas MOnthly, surely...
7:36
[Comment From carmaphob]
He could never be potus
7:36
[Comment From NathanD]
If he does run for President, he won't carry Texas.
7:35
CAMPOS/WFAA: It would appear he might be building a "network" for a run for higher office.
7:35
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: Perry just asked if he will fullfill 4 more years if reelected. He said yes. Do you believe him? Will he run for president of the US?
7:35
[Comment From Echevarria]
If the illegal alien is improving themselves by trying to get an education let them. There are plenty of citizens who are dropping out of high school and turning away from education. This is a country of opportunity for those willing to seek it.
7:35
[Comment From Henry]
Good grief.. Now it's God's choice to figure out what you going to do?
7:35
CAMPOS/WFAA: Perry was Chairman of Republican governors association in 2008.

7:34
[Comment From RickandKayatemybaby]
Perry isn't only busted. HE'S STONE COLD BUSTED !
7:34
CAMPOS/WFAA: PRO LIFE LINKED TO THE HPV vaccine?
7:34
[Comment From bucfish]
vaccines which kill
7:34
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: KENS5 Sarah Lucero has already asked the candidates about how they would make up the budget shortfall. Look for an jobs/unemployment related question from her later tonight. Your question related to jobs?
7:34
[Comment From Larry]
NO EXECUTIVE ORDERS OF ANY KIND!!!
7:33
[Comment From Guest]
I hope anyone who was going to vote for Perry will change their mind now. I am now SURE of Medina!!
7:33
[Comment From Guest]
We really need to close the border for the safety of Texas
7:33
[Comment From Houston Harry]
haha Perry is busted.... haha
7:33
[Comment From Jim]
Perry, You are doing nothing to "defend our border"!!!
7:32
Christine/KHOU/Houston: Governor Perry supports a bill which is contrary to his feeling on the borders. I'd love to hear from Medina has to say.
7:32
[Comment From Landon]

7:32
[Comment From Vero.]

7:32
[Comment From KathyJB]
Perry is dead wrong on the illegal situation
7:32
[Comment From John]
Perry the RINO
7:32
[Comment From William Doright]
Perry is starting to look like a statesman with that last answer.
7:32
[Comment From Echevarria]
If they are illegal and a resident of TX, let them get the in state tuition
7:32
[Comment From Luis]
they can receive in state tuition once they have been in texas for a year
7:32
[Comment From bucfish]
Perry is sounding like Dubbya
7:32
[Comment From Guest]
in-state tuition should only be offered to citizens of texas who are legal citizens
7:32
[Comment From Kyle]
dance dance dance perry
7:31
bob stein khou: it is odd for the governor to hammer the feds for not 'protecting our borders from illegal immigration and wants to allow the same persons to get free tuition at state schools?
7:31
[Comment From tony]
we should help citizens, not ppl on the way to being citizens
7:31
[Comment From taryn in arlington]
If an American citizen cannot get in-state Tuition in Texas, then why should an illegal or foreigner get in-state??
7:31
[Comment From Guest]
Perry panders to the open borders lobby. disgusting.
7:31
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: FYI: At the end of the debate there will be a "Fact Check" segment. Fact checkers are now going through the candidates promises and looking into the facts. Should be fascinating.
7:31
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: Thanks everyone, for your patience. We have hundreds of comments pouring in. We're trying to pull in as many as we can!
7:31
[Comment From Christine/KHOU/Houston]
Governor Perry is dancing around Len's question.
7:31
[Comment From gopkat]
Illegals should NOT get in-state tuition. BAD decision.
7:30
[Comment From Tex]
Perry is dancing around the question...
7:30
[Comment From Texas]
good response Gov!
7:30
CAMPOS/WFAA: wouldn't eliminating the property tax mean, much higher sales taxes or maybe a state income tax?
7:30
[Comment From Cherish]
yes, eliminate property tax. Do you realize you NEVER own your own land in Texas? Only without property tax will you ever be allowed to do so.
7:30
[Comment From Guest]
Sales tax is better. you can decide what to buy and filters down to all economic classes
7:29
[Comment From Kevin]
Sales tax would only go up that high if we didn't make the sales tax base more broad.
7:29
[Comment From Brant Robinette]
NO, it would not go to 14.5%, it would drop to 6% or less due to broadening the tax base. Don't post half of the equation!
7:29
[Comment From Ashley]
texas has a sales tax...
7:29
[Comment From tony]
Medina handled that very well!
7:29
[Comment From Larry]
We can keep our property if the Government does not tax it away from us.
7:29
[Comment From KathyJB]
If you have a sales tax, EVERYONE pays.
7:29
[Comment From 1776 not 1984]
Jan. Cut the budget by 50% and you can eliminate Property Tax and slash Sales tax. CUT SPENDING.
7:29
[Comment From Kirk]
yes... consumption tax... fairest for everyone
7:29
[Comment From bbqmavin]
I don't want a 14% sales tax Medina
7:29
[Comment From KathyJB]
YES, Eliminate property tax
7:29
bob stein khou: How fair would a higher sales be as opposed to a property tax?
7:29
[Comment From cogtx]
medina more conservative than the other two...
7:29
[Comment From margaret]
texas is one of the few states who do NOT have a sales tax
7:29
[Comment From gopkat]
Eliminating property taxes will never happen in TX. It's not realistic.
7:28
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: Sales tax if property tax eliminated end up at 14.5%. Good decision to eliminate property tax?
7:28
CAMPOS/WFAA: i THINK THE gay marriage question is a fair question to ask a candidate who wants to be the next gov of TEXAS.
7:28
[Comment From Jericho McCain]
Jeff, Of course.. Perry and Hutchison are neocons.. Medina is a minarchist
7:28
[Comment From Texas]
marriage is between a man and a woman. read the bible
7:28
[Comment From Nancy in Baytown]
WHY are they bringing up gay "marriage" again? Texans have voted that down enough times.
7:27
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: Political pundits have pegged Medina as a Republican w/ a libertarian slant. Agree? is she right of Perry & Hutchison?
7:27
[Comment From stephstance]
marriage does not belong in gov...then get it out!!! Im gay and want the same legal rights damnit!
7:27
Martin Bartlett/KVUE: This is certainly a real civics lesson.
7:27
[Comment From wil in new york]
Say "No" to Gay 'marriage'.
7:27
[Comment From Blake]
medina is a slightly more intelligent Sarah Palin
7:27
[Comment From Bruce]
Good for Debra. A real Texan. A Christian.
7:27
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: Interesting question there re: Gay Marriage. Your thoughts?
7:27
[Comment From KathyJB]
Debra Medina is the only one who knows the Constitution
7:27
[Comment From Joe in Arlington]
Secession from the U.S. is ridiculous. It would be socioeconomic/political/moral suicide
7:27
[Comment From BoB]
Texas can't; we can divide into smaller states
7:27
[Comment From wil in new york]
Read the first paragraph of the Texas Constitution.
7:27
[Comment From Larry]
Medina is the only candidate that talks about the Constitution.
7:26
[Comment From Brant Robinette]
She is talking about tools to be used to reinforce states rights, even just talking about those tools (such as nullification and succession) is not the same as discussing "going to war with the U.S.". Don't put words in her mouth.
7:26
[Comment From wil in new york]
She only recognizes Texas' ability to do so.
7:26
[Comment From David]
She's not talking about going to war with the US. She is warning that tossing around "secession" is very, very dangerous.

Part 1/3

7:26
[Comment From Josh]
Jan....that is not what she said......
7:25
[Comment From BoB]
secession is not succession
7:25
[Comment From Jericho McCain]
Shes getting criticized for using a quote of our founding fathers????????? LOLOLLL
7:25
[Comment From Vero.]
We understand freedom in Texas and Medina too.
7:25
[Comment From bbqmavin]
WOW! I have never seen that video of Medina. that's awful!
7:25
[Comment From Kevin]
Texas won't go to war with the rest of the US, only with oppressive governments.
7:25
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: KBH: Time for a change. Where have I heard that before? Oh, by ALL candidates. What do you consider change?
7:25
[Comment From Larry]
Medina is not for secession.
7:25
[Comment From WHat?]
What kind of question is that for Medina? Perry talked about Succession--why isn't he asked about it?
7:25
[Comment From Kaitlyn Sooter]
I just don't feel like Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison is sincere. She seems very power greedy...I would love to be proven wrong.
7:25
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: OK, what do you think about Medina's comments about going to war with the rest of the U.S.?
7:24
CAMPOS/WFAA: I am beginning to think the Senator WON'T RESIGN BEFORE THE PRIMARY.
7:24
[Comment From garcia]
kay, forget about it...stay in dc
7:24
[Comment From Guest]
What does abortion have to do with running the state of Texas
7:24
[Comment From Brant Robinette]
KBH stands "against" the government health care bill in Congress, yet she VOTED for it.
7:23
[Comment From J. Jesse]
KBh will never resign....
7:23
[Comment From Kevin]
Abortion will never be federal or state until supreme court makes it law as to when the "life" starts.
7:23
bob stein khou: When will she resign, win or lose?
7:23
[Comment From Hunter in Odessa]
KBH is losing this one badly.
7:23
CAMPOS/WFAA: any comments about the questions so far? Do any of the questions seem biased?
7:23
[Comment From twinkle]
Abortion is NOT a state issue...it is a personal one!!
7:23
[Comment From Martin Bartlett/KVUE]
Hutchison shows some personal passion about Roe v. Wade.
7:23
[Comment From Will in Euless]
I like this one on one format. I haven't seen it before. It is helpful to understand their stance on issues. I like it
7:23
[Comment From cogtx]
abortion issue may indicate the character and belief of a candidate we are looking for...therefore important to know their opinion on right to life
7:22
[Comment From SouthernPatriot]
YAY!!! KBH just got called out for supporting big gov't
7:22
[Comment From Kyle]
its supposed to be a states rights issue, but roe vs wade made it a federal issue
7:22
[Comment From Andy]
everything is a state issue. Some things are a federal issue
7:22
[Comment From Jeff Cambeis]
Itis not about abortion it is about understanding philosophy. We need to understand philosophy not just issues.
7:22
[Comment From lizann]
Abortion should NOT be a topic for politicians.
7:22
[Comment From stephstance]
abortion is a personal issue
7:22
[Comment From NathanD]
Abortion is absolutely a state issue
7:22
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: Just a thought: Is abortion a state issue or a federal one?
7:21
[Comment From ronpaulgirl]
Kay bought the bait of the abortionists! My goodness, help us Medina!!!
7:21
[Comment From twinkle]
Abortion should be up to the individual and their own values!
7:21
[Comment From Landon]
abortion is good because if someone gets raped it isn't there fault for having the child
7:21
CAMPOS/WFAA: There have been restrictions placed on abortions during Perry's tenure.
7:21
[Comment From Doug Garnett]
NO leave abortion out of this race, lets talk JOBS, TAXES and illegal aliens
7:21
bob stein khou: The Senator is having a very difficult time answer any questions about abortion. What is clear about here position on abortion?
7:21
[Comment From Cathy]
roe v wade is not going away, leave it alone
7:21
[Comment From Christine]
They need to answer the question. Roe v. Wade is more big-government legislation that needs to be overturned!
7:21
[Comment From twinkle]
Abortion should not be discussed on a state debate!!!!
7:20
[Comment From Martin Bartlett/KVUE]
Viewiers, do you think Roe v. Wade should be an issue in this race?
7:20
CAMPOS/WFAA: some recent polls i've seen indicate voters are swinging closer to the middle on the abortion issue. Abortion with some restrictions. KBH gets poor marks from pro choice groups.
7:20
[Comment From twinkle]
KBH is doing the round about dance!
7:20
[Comment From Jeff Cambeis]
KBH just committed political suicide on that response "no in this sense"
7:20
[Comment From Frisco]
poor KH
7:20
[Comment From Blake]
Governor doesn't make supreme court decisions
7:20
[Comment From Guest]

JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: ABORTION QUESTION. DOES THIS MATTER TO YOU?
7:20
[Comment From stephstance]

7:20
[Comment From Tex]
Nice flashback KBH
7:19
[Comment From Blake]
Governor has no place in the abortion issue, good grief
7:19
[Comment From wil in new york]
KBH is being hit with the abortion question again.
7:19
[Comment From twinkle]
Gosh...Roe vs Wade again!
7:19
CAMPOS/WFAA: here we go on the ABORTION QUESTION?
KBH has voted many times to curtail use of abortion.
7:19
[Comment From bucfish]
Yes if you shrink government
7:19
[Comment From Brian T]
Sure it could, but not if you believe big government is the answer to our problems
7:19
[Comment From NathanD]
Wrong Bob, eliminate property taxes AND reallocate wasted spending to social services
7:19
[Comment From James King/WFAA/Arlington]
ALL candidates- What will happen to TX with the NAFTA being extended?
7:18
[Comment From Will in Euless]
Medina's answer was beautiful. Cut property taxes. simple.
7:18
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: Lucero pressing candidates to be specific on programs they would cut to balance the budget. Perry mentions Railroad Comm, KBH doesn't answer specfics but criticizes Perry for not taking fed funds. Medina takes radical approach and suggests eliminating prop tax and adopt a state sales tax.
What would you cut?
7:18
[Comment From new to TX]
Medina just suggested eliminating property tax?!? Awesome!
7:18
TYLER SIESWERDA / KVUE: Many Texans would like to get rid of property tax. Could that work though?
7:18
[Comment From Brian T]
That's because she actually understands property rights, and respects them
7:18
[Comment From Brian G. R.]
Yes, we are property taxed way, way toooo much! Way to go Medina!
7:18
bob stein khou: Has anyone thought to ask why many of the recipients of enterprise funds are also major contributors to Gov Perry's campaign and also recipients of state contracts
7:18
[Comment From George Schwarz%25252FAmarillo]
Media's position about property tax is untenable.
7:18
CAMPOS/WFAA: Dallas MORNING NEWS REPORTS that the expectations of the TEXAS ENTERPRISE FUND had to be "scaled back."
7:18
[Comment From BoB]
eliminate property tax and kill local services, cities, schools and counties
7:18
[Comment From bbqmavin]
Texas Enterprise Fund has created more than 55,000 jobs. Would Kay rather give those jobs back?
7:17
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: Prof. Stein, are you surprised by her answer?
7:17
bob stein khou: Medina seems to have gotten the best of question on cutting spending. she offers real specific areas for cuts
7:17
[Comment From The Truth]
KBH voted for the bank bailout! Fail!

experience balancing a budget does not mean he should be governor any longer! he's not keeping his word
7:17
[Comment From cooler]
Perry has experience nitpicking. Medina will go in and slash the bloated beuracracies.
7:17
[Comment From NathanD]
If Perry balanced our budget why are we billions in debt?
7:17
[Comment From Andy]
of course kbh is in favor of the stimulus money, it gives more control over our state to the fed. govt.
7:17
[Comment From Jonathan Joki]
medina can easily cut the budget and balance the budget, she use to own a business and a ranch
7:17
[Comment From James King/WFAA]
What happened to the Lottery money being used for TX education? Will improve after the elections
7:16
[Comment From giselle]
Perry is actually answering the questions (ie. which agencies to combine) while his opponents dance around the issues with non-answers.
7:16
[Comment From wil in new york]
BBQ, really? Medina is an actual business owner.
7:16
[Comment From 1776 not 1984]
BBQ you mean that KBH or Medina have never had to budget their personal expenses?
7:16
[Comment From George Schwarz%25252FAmarillo]
Both KBH & good hair are hyprocties about fed stiulus. Kay, answer the questions
7:16
[Comment From KathyJB]
KBH TOOK stimulus monies
7:16
[Comment From Cathy]
Ask Gov Perry how it is that the state house and state senate can approve a bill for passage into law and when it goes to be signed it is vetoed by the Governor. Our senators and reps are representing the people. Who is the governor representing?
7:16
[Comment From bucfish]
Perry balanced a budget?
7:15
[Comment From Sam Wilson]
how is a deficit balancing?
7:15
[Comment From bbqmavin]
Perry has experience balancing a budget. Kay and Medina don't.
7:15
CAMPOS/WFAA: All I got is that she was a bank executive and businesswoman. Dr Stein what exactly did she do?
7:15
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: Good question, Tyler. Is anyone surprised how emotional the toll roads issue is?
7:15
[Comment From leapin lizard]
Perry has already handled a budget shortfall in 2003 and he'll do it again to continue keeping Texas as # 1
7:14
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: KENS5 Sarah Lucero is up. SA what are your concerns?
7:14
[Comment From KathyJB]
Medina is dead on and the moderator is against Medina. He lets the other two drone on
7:14
TYLER SIESWERDA / KVUE: Bigger issue? Toll Roads or Illegal immigration?
7:14
[Comment From charlie shore]
Perry will say that he is against the federal government, but he has had years and years to nullify federal laws...hypocrisy at its best
7:14
[Comment From DrivinBrad]
maybe the senator had a lemonade stand
7:14
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: So what is she talking about, Campo?
7:14
[Comment From Nancy in Baytown]
Everify is at least SOMETHING. Something is better than NOTHING.
7:14
CAMPOS/WFAA: Sen Hutchison saying she was a small business owner. But the bio I'm looking at shows, "she temporarily left politics after losing a raise for the U.S. house in 1982. Then back in 1993.

7:13

e-verify is a system; using it is optional

Texas has it own boarder Perry should secure it!

How come E-Verify is even a question? What has perry done to SECURE THE BORDER!?
7:13
bob stein khou: Gov Perry is trying to characterize the Sen. as a democrat and part of the washington political establishment

Perry only restated Medinas answer
7:12
[Comment From Shawn]
Perry ONLY answers a question straightly when he has a chance to slam KBH, whom he deems his only competition.
7:12
[Comment From Brant Robinette]
E-Verify is leaving verification of legal immigration up to those in the federal government (who are completely inept at governing and may align WITH illegal immigration). Texas needs to do their own checks through STATE power, not the federal government.
7:12
[Comment From Jeremy]
Medina said secure the border and you don't need government regulation such as everify
7:12
[Comment From The Truth]
Medina said she stands for private property -- that is better than saying yes or no in my eyes...
7:12
[Comment From Blake]
wow, Perry just blew off the question
7:12
[Comment From cotullaguy]
why hasn't perry secured the border yet?
7:12
[Comment From George Schwarz%25252FAmarillo]
Yes or no. And using troops violates posse comitas
7:12
[Comment From Josh]
Please ask Gov. Perry what he has done to defend the border? Why does that have to be a federal issue.
7:12
[Comment From BoB]
Like Perry insulted the wishes of the House and Senate on HB 2006, eminent domain?
7:12
[Comment From Dan in Fort Worth]
sure the fed is the problem, but why cant we take matters in our own hands.
7:12

O how I love Perry's quirky sayings!
7:12

7:12
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: Border security. eVerify. What do you think of the Gov's answer?
7:11

How come Kay got to rebut on the last one? And it didn't sound like any of them gave straight answers as far as the three choices go.

7:11
[Comment From leapin lizard]
wow. perry is the only one actually answering the questions!
7:11
[Comment From MURRAY]
Gov. Perry nailed the answer. He understands the realities unlike his opponents. Nice of KBH to insult the legislature when she slammed TXDOT.
7:10
[Comment From danta]
Perry has never been afraid to state his views on issues.
7:10
[Comment From CassD]
there was lots of good changes in TXDOT sunset that didn't pass b/c Sen Carona wanted to tax folks 5 different ways
7:10
[Comment From Rick S]
The whole toll road issue has been hidden from the public til recently
7:09
[Comment From Dan in Fort Worth]
with a gas tax you cannot avoid paying it. with a toll road you can.
7:09
[Comment From brenda]
Ask Perry if the trans texas corridor is really deed dead?
7:09
[Comment From Guest]
Perry was the only one who gave a direct answer to that question! Thanks for actually answering it and not skirting around it like Kay.
7:09
[Comment From Seyed Azad]
Please ask the question if the tax increase is as same as toll fees
7:08
[Comment From Emma]
Glad to hear that Perry is against a gas tax!
7:08
[Comment From Michael]
We have too many toll roads now, we don't need any more tolls
7:08
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: KBH gets the toll road question. Hutchison wants a TXDOT audit, Medina wants the $ to stay in TX. Essentially she's going w/ the anti-Washington vote. Perry against gas tax to fund roads. What is the best idea?
7:08
[Comment From Ang]
Not all toll roads in TX accept cash.
7:08
[Comment From Pamela]
WE don't know what TXDOT does because there is no communications about it!
7:08

Good answer by Medina on Tx Dot
7:08

7:08
[Comment From Guest]
Agreed, more regional planning!
7:08
[Comment From Jericho McCain]
TxDot needs to be abolished
7:08
[Comment From Aaron E.]
We really need an audit of TXDOT
7:08
[Comment From Dave]
then don't drive on the tolls
7:07
[Comment From Guest]
Kay is right...We don't know where they are spending TXDot
7:07
[Comment From Blake]
they already get plenty of money. They are profiterring off of our tollroads
7:07
KHOU: ms medina seems far more sure of herself. her answers are more polished and informed than the Senator
7:07
[Comment From Jason Deckman]
TxDOT needs to be de-centralized, more power to regional planning
7:07
[Comment From Ang]
TX Dot's head should be elected. They are not acting responsible to the people. Have you seen how much they dropped roads in the Hurricane-effected areas of Texas? Stupid move on their part.
7:07
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: Prof. Stein, are you now logged in as KHOU?
7:07
[Comment From CassD]
Dems were the problem for TxDot Sunset in the last Session
7:07
[Comment From Melissa Seli]
The transportation question was limited, though, and unfair.
7:07
[Comment From Joe]
The constitution is more important to me than transportation.
7:06
KHOU: The Senator seems uncomfortable with her answers
7:06
[Comment From DrivinBrad]
i am sick of toll roads - raise the gas tax

7:06
CAMPOS/WFAA: where is Prof Stein?

Perry and KBH are both RINOS!
7:06
[Comment From Jericho McCain]
Privatize roads. Competition > Govt. monopoly
7:05
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: Transportation. Important to you all?
7:05
[Comment From DrivinBrad]
rick has that goofy smirk
7:05
[Comment From mRE]
Totally knocked that curve ball out of the ball park.
7:05
[Comment From Shawn]
Perry seems cocky, as usual.
7:05
[Comment From Martin Bartlett]
Huthison and Medina shook hands beforfe the debate. As far as I saw, Hutchison and Perry didn't make contact.
7:05
[Comment From Andy]
body language = kay bailey: extremely uncomfortble and waffling; rick perry: phony; medina: confident and prepared
7:05

[Comment From wil in new york]
KBH should be nervous
7:05
[Comment From bbqmavin]
Will they allow rebuttals tonight?
7:05
[Comment From William Doright]
KBH's smile and introduction looked very cold and a lil devious to me.
7:05
[Comment From Guest]
How do you vote in a Primary? I never did that before.. That would be a cool story from a cool news organization.. HINT!
7:04
[Comment From Melissa Seli]
I don't know about body language because I can't watch the screen and type in this chat at the same time :D
7:04
[Comment From Joe]
the camera angles dont stay on any candidate long enough to get a sense on body language.
7:04
CAMPOS/WFAA: Sen Hutchison appeared a bit shaky in her first answer. Perry confident. Same for Medina.
7:04
[Comment From George Schwarz%2FAmarillo]
Debra won't answer directly and is just repeating talking points so far.
7:04
[Comment From Riley]
I vote for what I believe in. What gives you the right to say my vote is a waste?
7:04
[Comment From bbqmavin]
KBH looks nervous
7:04
[Comment From Melissa Seli]
"Safety" is generally imposed by others on people they don't think are smart enough to take care of themselves.
7:04
TYLER SIESWERDA / KVUE: What do you all think about body language so far?
7:03
[Comment From Seyed Azad]
Question for Governor Perry: Is toll fee as same as tax increase on average Texans since they rich folk will report that as tax deduction?
7:03
[Comment From George Schwarz%2FAmarillo]
At least a straight anwer from Perry, Hutchison doges again
7:03
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: Gun contriol out of the gate. This may have been prompted by a recent shooting in Austin. Shooter aimed at the capitol.
7:03
[Comment From wil in new york]
Since when has KBH been a supporter of concealed carry? LOL
7:03
[Comment From Riley]
A wasted vote? That's horrible thinking. MY VOTE is MY VOTE
7:03
[Comment From Pamela]
SAFETY is most important!!!!!!!!!!
7:03
CAMPOS/WFAA: If you are not registered to vote yet in the primary, you have until Monday to sign up!
7:03
[Comment From J. Jesse]
Lets go Perry!
7:03
[Comment From Sam Bass]
I think Rick Perry has been a supporter of individual freedom
7:03
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: A little audio glitch off the top
7:02
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: Is everyone hearing now?
7:02
[Comment From Joe]
bad answer rick. more highway miles built by eminent domain and stealing people's property right.
7:02
[Comment From Terrence, Abilene TX]
In a “free country” shouldn’t the borders be open to all people seeking liberty and protection of unalienable rights? What are your plans as Governor to ensure that our border with Mexico does not turn into a prison wall keeping Americans locked in and people seeking freedom locked out?
7:02
[Comment From Guest]
I agree, a vote for Medina is a wasted vote.
7:02
[Comment From Tex]
Is it true that Reagan didn't hold any office prior to being elected as Governor of California?
7:02
[Comment From Paul]
People who vote for the same big government candidates again and again fustrate me. 4 years from now government will be bigger with either Hutch or Perry.
7:02
[Comment From David/Student/Houston]
Therefore she shall get my vote
7:02
JEFFVAUGHN/KENS: In talking with Dem candidates at the MLK March in SA, his staff wants Perry to win big so the Hutchison and Medina vote will swing their way.
7:02
[Comment From Pamela]
Stop with the anti-Bush statements and grow up, please!
7:01
[Comment From cooler]
game on
7:01
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: If we stick to what's happening in the debate I think this will be a great discussion!
7:01
[Comment From Jason]
I don't think you should not vote for someone because you don't "think" they can win. That's ridiculous.
7:01
JAN/Kens5/San Antonio: Someone is asking if this chat is going to be manageable---
7:01
[Comment From Seyed Azad]
Question for Governor Perry: Is toll fee as same as tax increase on average Texans since they rich folk will report that as tax deduction?
7:01
[Comment From Guest]
I will no longer be voting for the lesser of two socialists, those in this particular race being Rick Perry and KB Hutchinson. I am voting for liberty, and Debra Medina is the only choice.
7:01
CAMPOS/WFAA: We got more than 600 suggested questions from online from viewers.
Here we go!
7:00
[Comment From wil in new york]
A vote for Medina is a vote for Medina. Stop that silly nonsense about it being a vote for Hutchison.
7:00
[Comment From Glen]
George (Shrub) Bush didn't have any legislative experience at all.
7:00
[Comment From Melissa Seli]
The "wasted vote" arguments have been used to elect some horrible folks and get us each into the mess we're in.

Nice....if you look at the end of the debate almost everybody is saying Medina won (a couple for Perry though).

I was very, very impressed by the commentators.. Wow they asked some touch, direct questions and they were sharp. And I bet they didn't give the questions out in advance like CNN and MSNBC.

Oh geeeeze... someone freeze the Rick Perry nod, smile and wink at the young blonde once he thought he finally nailed an answer...

Yeah, Texas knows how to host a debate! I enjoyed that. Nice format, and it was REAL. It did not seem staged like all the cable TV debates from the presidential election.

Seems like there were a LOT of good posts for Medina. And several people that said they switched thier votes to Medina after watching the debate.
