Many states allow write-ins, but will only count them as "undervotes". Just because a "write-in" spot is there does not mean it will actually get counted in the end.
If your state treats write-ins as such, a louder statement would be to settle on a 3rd party candidate. Whether it's Libertarian, Constitution Party, whatever... just check the rules in your state before thinking that you're making a "statement" by writing in Ron Paul.
