It already does happen every time someone buys a new gun and submits to the instant background check. Unless, of course, you actually believe that they delete those records like they're supposed to.

They don't (at least the stores I have gone to) give any information on what specifically you are buying when the make they call for the background check.

Now the store does have a record, so I guess the Feds could get a court order to get those records.

They really don't need any specific information on what you're buying, just the fact THAT you're buying. They'll get all the specifics they need when they come to confiscate whatever you have.

Plus, dealers are required to enter ALL information from the 4473 forms into their "bound book," a log that they're required to keep as long as they're in business. If they ever go OUT of business, they are required to turn their "bound book" over to ATF. So, in that case ATF has all that info as well.

Personally, I wouldn't feel TOO "safe" about the whole issue. There are probobaly many other loopholes and such that could be used to get any info they wanted about any new firearm purchases.

Yeah, I know, that is what I said, the records are at the store.

But I usually lose my guns anyway, except for a few old ones laying around...

I heard a cop on the scanner the other day who asked about any registered guns for a suspect. Even though the law states that handguns are to be registered in CA, why would they put a serial number on ATF forum 4473 for long guns?
