To this I say...
we need names.
The whole point of getting names is to be wiser about who runs us and disincentivize these swamp goons to try stuff like this. Even if the only result is public humiliation and shame, that's enough reason for most of these people not to want to bother. They are living comfortable lives trying to control things from the dark. Turn the light on and see if they still do it or if they scurry back into their holes.
Yeah, I get it. Names would be nice. I was just saying that it doesn't begin to solve the problem. You may shame one or two, but they'll be backfilled quicker than the trigger finger of a cop when a chihuahua yips.
Backroom deals, lobbyists, campaign finance... They're all after the power. Striking at the branches may give you a temporary sense of satisfaction, but it does nothing to resolve the problem. The root is the power they're after. And it will attract the kinds of people who want power without the effort of satisfying the needs of the market.
