Austin Campaign Dominated by 9/11 Truthers

There may be far more "Truthers" (what exactly is that supposed to mean anyway?) supporting Ron Paul without trying to advance their 911 cause than anyone knows. 'Cause... how would you know? Get my point? Criticizing the whole movement (in all its shades and degrees) because of what a few may have done is no more fair than the MSM's attempt to paint all Ron Paul supporters as "fringe" or rude because of the actions of a few.

In threads gone past, Americans who support Ron Paul but also choose to respect causes like http://www.patriotsquestion911.com/ or related questions have agreed to withhold 911 oriented postings in this forum, as the two causes should not be wed. It's only fair those who criticize fellow Americans for supporting such causes should do the same.

There is no comparison. The "truthers" are anything but. Ron Paul is a patriot and a statesman. He has far and away the best domestic policy stances of ANY candidate. His view of the constitution and his history of actually living up to what he stands for is unparalleled.

Hello to you Austin folks - I'm down the road from you, in the Brenham area. :)

i just moved up the road from you to manor....

the meetup group is small and inactive (thus far) here in manor. once my feet are better set i'll be actively participating w/ them. if you're looking for a nearby group that is already established and essentially in austin, you might look into joining the manor meetup.

that being said, i'm fine w/ meetings being held at brave new books (though i'm also a 'truther' sorta) but i also believe that some meetings are held at an office called the "austin ron paul revolution headquarters" or something like that. Don Zimmerman, i believe, runs the show over there...

i'm not familiar w/ him, but i think he is part of hq no?

anyway, just a thought, might wanna look into manor (my yard is the only one i've seen w/ a sign so...)

The core of the Austin Ron Paul Grassroots effort was put together by Don Zimmerman, who is paying for a Ron Paul office at the northern portion of 183 (head North and exit Anderson Mill, it is on the frontage road, after Enterprise.)

Most of my experience with the Austin Grassroots effort has been with people at the 183 office, and there hasn't been much 9/11 Truther stuff being pushed (if any.)

The central location was opened MUCH later in Brave New Books. They were willing to offer space - we don't have another Don Z. paying for neutral office space anywhere else in Austin, so we take what we can get.

I'm working to get Williamson County organized, along with the great folks who started the WilCo Meetup group.

The Williamson County group is having a meeting in Georgetown TODAY at 3PM. Please come on out if you are close.

Wow just logged on this site for the first time in months and boy has it changed. Figured I would go and see what was posted in Austin since the last time I was on.

Was very surprised to see this topic and what people had to say in it.

To keep this short because I do not feel like addressing all the post in here. I can see that people show their opinion on issues or if thats what it needs to be called, more freely in a blog atmosphere because there is no connection between that person and the screen name in reality. So on this topic I would love for these people to come up to me in person and argue the fact that the 9/11 patriots are the plague. I can promise I will make you look like a fool.

My name is Patrick Earnest and I am the freeway sign lead person in Austin and the surrounding area and you can find me usually at most events. I am almost always at the 183 office on a daily basis in the evening during the workweek and am kinda random during the weekend.

From an Austin Meetup Group Organizer

I've recently come around to the logical conclusion that Ron Paul is the best candidate for president... but I've been turned off from getting with the other supporters here in Austin, as all the meetup's take place at the 9/11 truther head quarters here.... like Brave New Books on the Drag.

Should I start my own Ron Paul meetup here?

Does anyone know of a meetup group that is disassociated with the 9/11 truth movement? I find 9/11 conspiracies to be preposterous, just as my candidate does. But these people seem to be obsessed with a conspiracy to EXPOSE the conspiracy, and other crazy nonsense that I Don't think is going to bode well for the campaign here.

Anyway... i'd really like to know who else there is here in Austin promoting Ron Paul who doesn't believe 9/11 was an inside job.

I'm sorry that you feel you cannot work with the Austin group.

As the organizer who has been scheduling a lot of events, I try to accommodate the group and requests as much as possible. We started to meet at Brave New Books for a few reasons. One, it was centrally located, as requested by several people. Two, it was close enough the UT students without cars would be able to be active with the group. Three, the owners of Brave New Books are extremely supportive and accommodating to us and our schedule. They are big supporters of Ron Paul and individual liberty.

Whether you agree with 9/11 truthers or not, Ron Paul supporters come from every walk of life, faith, and believe in all kinds of things.

If you would care to find someplace that would allow us to meet that does not charge an extortionist rate for us to meet there, I would be MORE than happy to schedule events there. The venues we have used so far have been supportive of the meetup group and have not charged us any fee to have events.

I find it very interesting that I get a lot of email with all kinds of ideas to implement and yet very few people are actually willing to step up and organize anything. I have stated on numerous occasions that you do not need the permission of anyone in this group to organize an event. If you talk to anyone who has, I am sure they will tell you that I post EVERYTHING that I am asked to do. I like a lot of ideas I see out there, but there is no way that I can do everything.

I'm sure you understand that the organizers are people just like you who have very busy lives and try to fit in as much as they can. I would hate for you to leave the group because of a perceived bias or slight that may not be true. I encourage you, and ASK you, to please help us organize events, find venues and be more involved. The meetup group is a malleable thing - we can make it what we want.

As far as being too involved in 9/11 truth - I cannot think of ONE event that we did that had ANYTHING to do with 9/11 truthers. Are there people who believe that not everything we were told was the truth? Sure there are, but I believe most of them keep it separate when working for Dr. Paul. Does this mean as a group you can't work with them? Of course not!

So - in closing - form your own meetup group if you feel you must. I would rather have you help make the 14 group better and bring in fresh ideas. We can accomplish more by working together than fighting against each other. Which do you think the establishment would rather we do? Do you think it's better to fracture the group because everyone doesn't believe exactly the same thing? You don't have to endorse 9/11 truthers and still support Dr. Paul. Isn't the saying "United we stand, divided we fall?"

I am available to answer questions and offer advice based on what I've learned so far with events and scheduling. Please feel free to contact me any time about event ideas and questions.

If you would like to become more active and organize more than one event, we can even talk to Paul about having you added as an assistant organizer.

This thread is not constructive--to say the least.

The claim that most meetup gatherings are at Brave New Books is completely false. Most have been at the north office rented by Don Zimmerman. I have been to exactly one organizing meeting at Brave New Books, and it had absolutely NOTHING to do with 9-11.

Absolutely none of our meetups have had anything to do with the 9-11 Truth thing (which I never heard of until a year ago). I have been involved since May and have helped organize several events--including the Austin Tea Party. Since I joined, I have met some who raise questions about 9-11--yet none of them bring it into to the grassroots campaign for Ron Paul. They all focus on his message--not their own.

We do not need divisiveness or trashing of allies like this in our ranks. We are working towards a common goal. I could care less if someone thinks differently from me about 9-11--as long as they do not put their own issue above Ron Paul as members of the meetup. I do care when I see people who have not even completely committed to Ron Paul trying to flame others in our Meetup--because it is destructive and serves no good purpose.

If the person beginning this thread wishes to start a new meetup which excludes 9-11 Truthers--by all means--go ahead. (I started my own in my area to organize the nearby precincts) But, please do not misrepresent the Austin Meetup Group as one focused on 9-11 truth conspiracies, because it is not.

Further, it sounds like the people on this thread raising these objections have not even totally committed to Ron Paul as of yet, so I must raise the question of whether or not they have even participated in our events to the extent that they have a credible perspective. If they had, they would have met plenty of people who are not part of "9-11 truth" movement.

that's right, the OP was posting misleading information - there is another office in austin, Brave New Books isn't the only place in town, it's just there to provide a convenient place for those downtown. meetings were also held at one time in a Unitarian church, that didn't mean we were supported by or supported Unitatians, it was just a meeting place.

and for all of you that keep saying that Alex Jones is the reason for 9/11 truth, well you forgot other hosts, like Alan Stang, Stan Monteith, Jack Blood, Kevin Barrett, Webster Tarpley, Rick Adams. and others. saying it's because of Alex Jones just shows your ignorance.
