I knew the second they played the Glenn Beck clip that they would play the race card on him for saying the phrase "Good Muslim." You could just see that lady ready to pounce. There's a couple things wrong with this...

1. I'm no fan of Glen Beck, but from that clip it was obvious that when he used the term "Good Muslim" he simply meant Muslims that aren't radical or trying to engage in Jihad.

2. MSNBC was way too quick to play the race card (AGAIN!!!) and you could see that lady practically drooling over the opportunity. And this time they just twisted words to take advantage of a cheap opportunity.

3. They droned on about it for 5 minutes.

Thank goodness the host was kind enough to quote Paul so thoroughly. I still haven't finished watching the clip yet so hopefully the cheap racial talk subsides into something actually constructive.

EDIT: Finished the clip and the rest of the discussion was pretty good. Glad to see Paul getting some positive coverage on MSNBC

Um, the term "Good Muslim" does indicate a pretty fucked up view of Muslims. The term "Good Muslim" is a lot like "Good Negro" or "White Trash" - in that it implies that there is a need to separate a particular sub-set of a group from the rest of the group because of the traits that the subgroup displays but that the group as a whole generally does not. It's really pretty obvious. You say "White Trash" because, for the most part, Whites are on the the privileged end of the economic spectrum (and thus an separate term or exception must be made to identify those who are not)- whether or not that fact is true, it's implied in the term. Just like the term "good Muslims" implies that the majority of Muslims, or a large portion, are "not good". If not, why not just say Muslims or most Muslims?

As far as the gadfly reference, as mentioned above, at least they didn't use quixotic. I'm alright with gadfly among the adjectives used to describe Ron Paul. And its actually quite the compliment.

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. It's not you're say anyways whether it'd be built or not, and that was his point. Paul protects the smallest of all minorities: the individual. In order to protect the individual, one must support private property rights.

Agree. Some other guy said that if it were true that it was derogatory, then he should feel offended if someone called him "a good guy", because that implies guys are usually awful.

Of course, he neither wants to dictate the property owners to build it or not. The decision lies with them - if you specifically want that mosque to be build, you can try to convince them to do so, if you don't want it build, you're of course free to voice your concern as well, but you must ultimately recognize that the decision is not yours, but it's the decision of the owners and you must accept it whether you like it or not. I think that's what he meant by "I don't care": He is indifferent to the mosque being built, but he wants to defend their right to do what they want with their property.
