Antifa designated a terrorist organization

The same as with every other "terrorist organization" designation.

Each government faction will apply or reject it when doing so suits their policy objectives in the moment, but will otherwise simply ignore it.

But this is a clear escalation of government tyranny and overreach. At least with Al Qaeda and ISIS they claimed to be doing acts of extreme violence. Yeah I know the Osama Bin Laden "claim" of 9/11 was sketchy but he absolutely claimed the bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. And ISIS gave us Hollywood style productions of beheadings (Nick Berg) and burning people alive (the Jordanian pilot). Even if that was all faked (I think it was real) or even if it was funded by rogue elements in the CIA (I'm pretty certain that it was) that still makes them some very bad actors (no pun intended). What has antifa really been accused of doing? Standing up to white supremacists with tiki torches? Spray painting a federal building? Looting and burning stores? Their worst accusations amount to civil unrest, not terrorism. Biden, for all his faullts, didn't designate the Proud Boys or the Oath Keepers "domestic terrorists." Sure he used "domestic terrorist" rhetoric, but no official designation.

Like I said: people use these labels (including "terrorism" and "civil unrest") as and when it suits their purposes, and will deny or ignore them as and when it doesn't.
