Maybe it's time to get personal with the voters. Try to develop a repore with the audience during the debates. Speak directly to them when answering the moderator's questions. Make it personal for them.
Here's a couple examples of what I mean:
If Iran comes up, maybe RP could look out among the audience and sincerely offer something similar to this...
"Look carefully at these men beside me. They all want to be the Commander in Chief. But they're not content with just the title. They want exclusive power to take us to war. Yet, not one of them ever served a day in this nation's armed forces when they had the option to. Not one of them ever managed a family for months on end while their spouse was on the other side of the world. Not one of them ever laid awake at night praying that their son or daughter would make it home from the battlefield. They just champion war, they don't fight them. They leave that to people like you."
If the economy comes up, maybe he could once again offer the audience something that hits closer to home...
"How can you trust these guys to lead us back to a stable economy when not a single one of them saw this disaster coming? How can you trust them to do what's right for the people at the bottom, when their campaigns owe so much to the people at the top? Have you ever asked yourself why most of my donors are people just like you and most of theirs aren't? Every one of these guys has pandered his way to this stage. Their talent with words might be better than mine, but their words aren't going to buy your groceries or pay your mortgage. It takes a sound economy for that, and even my harshest critics acknowledge that economics is my greatest strength."
Just sharing some thoughts. Thanks.
