And people like to blame Rand for his low poll numbers.

The issue Rand made his name on. Americans DON'T stand with Rand.

According to the new poll, 56 percent of Americans favor and 28 percent oppose the ability of the government to conduct surveillance on Internet communications without needing to get a warrant. That includes such surveillance on U.S. citizens.Majorities both of Republicans (67 percent) and Democrats (55 percent) favor government surveillance of Americans' Internet activities to watch for suspicious activity that might be connected to terrorism. Independents are more divided, with 40 percent in favor and 35 percent opposed. Only a third of Americans under 30, but nearly two-thirds 30 and older, support warrantless surveillance.

The poll finds that for most Americans, safety concerns trump civil liberties at least some of the time.

I'm pretty sure you'd get a different result if people actually knew it means THEY are spied upon.

And fuck people and their safety concerns. Go live in a prison and let the rest of us take a chance with life in a free society.
It pretty much is the perfect storm of political and world events that make this the most Unfavorable election to Rand or Ron's ideas in decades.

It goes to show that ISIS and the terror attacks have been good for the voyeurism business. If a treasure trove of sextets and selfies from America's teenage daughters ended up on the internet they probably would change their tune. Obviously they are storing terabytes of that filth for their viewing pleasure. All it takes is one person to leak it with the address and phone number of each girl.

I think the problem is that Americans are not given a choice between modifying the behavior of the American Empire which inspires terrorism against us and increased surveillance (which doesn't work except on Netanyahu).

People would be going full hog Christie if it wasn't for his bridge gate unelectability.

It reinforces the polling that showed Rand's numbers dropping off sharply when he got into the spat with Christie and at the same time Christie was climbing in 2013.

You don't think they've forgotten about that already? Another thing about Boobus is, he can't keep a fact in his head longer than two days if he isn't constantly reminded.

The whole ISIS thing was a major setback in terms of perception and I think Rand did the best he could to modify his rhetoric to pivot into a more mainline position while still holding his ground on the 4th Amendment. The one thing that is a bit of a silver-lining is that Rand still has a month to recover and it looks like ISIS is losing ground to both Russian and "Allied" advances in the region, which may take some of the wind out of the sails of Cruz and Rubio since it will be seen as an Obama success, and will likely turn attention back to other issues. Then again, a month may not be enough time, but given how sudden shifts in primary races have occurred in shorter amounts of time in the past, anything's possible.

When you have a combination of law enforcement TV series on every channel nightly showing boobus's heroes being hampered combined with the MSM and comedians educating the folks they are tinfoil hatters for objecting to anything related to government, this is the end result.

When you have the leading republican Presidential candidate stating he will expand it and torture, people tend to gravitate to that leaders stances......

I'm an American. I stand with Rand. So I guess Americans DO stand with Rand.

Imagine that.

Barring a few extremely annoying Trump/Cruz supporters who can't figure out that they are on the wrong forum, everybody on this forum stands with Rand. The problem is, most Americans don't belong to this forum. This country has a MASSIVE problem with an idolatrous worship of secular governing power for its own sake, and they get a thrill out of having it put their boot on the neck of everyone else, all the while telling themselves that we are doing it for the "greater good".

Americans have been conditioned to avoid thinking critically about things, and I'd argue that a lot of people who think that they are thinking critically actually are not. We're at a disadvantage presently in terms of numbers, and sadly the will of the mob is the governing system that this country has accepted.

I agree with much of what you posted.

However, I DO have a problem with all encompassing statements like "Americans don't stand with Rand."

Some Americans don't. Some do. Do most? We don't know.

Blanket statements like that speak generally and have a tinge of collectivist groupthink attached to them and they come off as attempted slams and attacks on Rand.

I agree. Until we have a presence in the mainstream media, we will not change perceptions. But, that will probably never happen, because we'd rather gripe about it than do something to change it.

When are you going to apply for a job as a news reporter, rather than sit here and gripe all day?
