Anarchists Prepare to Crash 2008 GOP Convention

the late eugene mccarthy became minnesota's senior senator
when H.H.H opted to be LBJ's veep in 1964 happily!!! i rather
liked ol' triple "H" and the chicago police riot created quite a
rift between two ol' fashion'd new deal liberals, if the war didn't!
nixon's phlebitis would kick up as he got vexxed with the antics
of the anti-war people. he squeaks into the whitehouse as half
the nation is horrified by the scenes of violence at that convention...
nixon actually did not have an easy presidency. when g.w bush's
speeches were starting to echo the better passages from nixon
and LBJ, it was only a matter of time until we see stories like these...

aratus, you forgot to mention that it all happened over RFK's dead body. I'm truly surprised I'm the only one to vote for Nixon in the worst presidents poll. Erosion of states' rights (55 mph speed limit), statism (Amtrak when deregulation would have saved the passenger train), rampant, obvious cronyism and corruption--no, Nixon's presidency wasn't easy--for us!

And RFK shot. And the airplane on which E. Howard Hunt's wife crashed, scaring the hell out of him. Coincidental accidents? The Watergate debacle was merely Nixon being careless and getting caught. Tip of the iceberg...

yes... its sorta fun to egg on yesteryear's radicals, or watch their
presuambly media and crowd pleasing theatrics from a SAFE distance,
yet they must ultimately be thought a dilution of the rEVOLUTIOn's
message if not a distraction! parking a few RON PAUL signs near
the media cameras is what i'd do, for i feel what goes on INSIDE the
hall is MORE important than the marches, rallies or demonstartions
outside the same! building up from the goodwill generated by the
state fair, which concudes its~self nearby, and carrying through to
loud, entheusiastic shows of support for RON PAUL inside the hall
would say ever so much more to middle america! nixon's proverbial
silent majority! be clean cut! despite what happened to mccarthy's kids!
in terms of stealing someone's thunder, actually its preferable for
jesse ventura or bob barr to be thought Ron Paul's intellectual equal
rather than having our good ol' SDS taking all the credit away from
the good doctor as well as the media goldfish bowl coverage! be very
cautious around the old SDS types! again, the Crawford Peace House
recently was racked by doctrinaire disputes in abundance! admittedly
i attended only two or three MINOR anti-war demonstrations in the late
60s or early seventies. one was at my high school after Kent State. my
other significant excursion was on the amherst common a few years later.
it was at night and sorta dark, and i was a greasy head in the crowd...
you couldn't see my face. my other instance of media fame was a bobbing
balloon at a jerry brown rally at the back of the hall. my exposure to the
local radicals is more due to my hanging out in harvard square in the 1970s.

Bobby and MLK!!! yes, RFK's people then had to either back
H.H.H or erudite and obtuse Mr. McCarthy, as all presumed
that poor RFK could have been Humphrey's running mate.
To learn a few weeks ago that RFK was shot in the back, most
likely and 13 shots rang out in that crowded kitchen adds to this.
I'm not saying be hostile to the SDS people, only CAUTIOUS!
its one thing if gov't people net-surf here because Bush thinks
they can, its another if you sorta start to overlap fringe groups
in your FBI file. i feel the subtle, soft politico tactics that could
convert a huckabee or romney person to Ron Paul might backfire
if we all put on GUY FAWKES masques and join the SDS! again, i
think MANY mcCain people might have sencond thoughts come
september if the economy continues to tank as Bush saber rattles
over Syria or Iran. sink mcCain's calm, I LIKE IKE image and you
end up with a confused small town republican of the traditional mode.
incidently, GENERAL EISENHOWER was quietly known for his temper...

What got Nixon was his simple unwillingness to merely burn the tapes, the critical evidence of the botched burglary cover up. That's what LBJ or FDR would have done, in a heartbeat. A real "no-brainer" there! DUH!!!

If ever you wonder why a conservative like me never registered or voted Republican until that's what was necessary to vote for Dr. Paul then you don't know shit about Richard Milhouse Nixon. You may think you do...

Statism. Elitism. Cronyism. The original war on drugs. Thugs in the White House. Ratfucking. Domestic spying.

And a style of electioneering that was probably literally murder. Who gained the most from RFK's death? Think about it.

IKe's temper was actually up there with bedell smith or gen'l macarthur...
john mccain is actually a vintage example of 1950s era management! most
people in public way back when did not really curse at all. mccain shows his
service years. ron paul is an eagle scout by comparison. as i said, nixon shocked
people with the EXTENSIVE swears on his own official whitehouse transcripts!

I say again. This SDS announcement is them setting the stage to taser the hell out of us. SDS my ass...

Don't forget "wage and price controls", removal of the remaining vestige of the gold standard, "We're all Keynesians now", Cambodia "incursion", etc., etc., etc. :D

true... in 1964, COW PALACE's CONVENTION was EVERY inch of coverage.
in 1960 the stage was set for AU~h20 in 1964!!! in boss daley's chicago,
the police in 1968 treated the mccarthy people like union organizers...

Those who refuse to learn from history will be repeating it real soon--and the rest of us with them!

keep in mind the pappy of Chicago's current Mayor Daley had his cops go up
several floors and billyclub all the young workers for Minnesota's senior senator
in the HQ that was cleary NOT at street level in 1968, to the horror of fellow
minnesotan Hubert Horatio Humphrey!!! many of eugene mccarthy's people
also wore business suits and were not Yippie Party members, who were trying
to put Pigasus on the ballot! 1968 is rather difficult to explain unless you lived
it, and yes, its a lead-in to 1972 and george mcGovern, let alone Watergate!

Yeppers! aratus, everyone, very good points all. We must be cautious, but not fearful. We MUST learn from history. Stand tall, together! My brush with the man in the late 60's and early 70's was brief and non confrontational, I did protest the treatment of the grape pickers and Safeway stores (remember Ceasar Chavez in the good ol days?) and I did get interviewed? by a skinny white shirt and tie guy once during a protest in Raleigh.....

words of wisdom in light of 1968...

acptulsa is very correct on this. i actually briefly worked for jerry brown in 1980.

i expect people will stand tall. again, what goes on INSIDE the hall easily impacts
by tenfold or hundredfold the mass media greatly over ANY staged demonstration
outside the hall. not that my brief excursions into politics taught me how to organize.
getting platform planks accepted or EVEN voted on takes a heck of a lot of organizing!!!

These people are morons. They should know that the most powerful protest will be held inside.
