Am I the only one that feels very pessimistic about Rand's 2016 chances right now?

With all things considered I am still very optimistic about Rand's chances. About foreign policy, the more stable things are overseas the easier it is to argue that the US has no security interest in foreign intervention, and the more unstable things are overseas, the more likely it is that Obama will do stupid things and the easier it will be for Rand to position himself against Obama's policies. Either way Rand has a chance.

Well, I think it's all of the above.

Yeah, there is much more to foreign policy than that set of circumstances. We're still invading nations from an economic perspective (and it still isn't clear who exactly is advising the President in that regard) and nobody in the mainstream political atmosphere wants to touch it with a ten foot pole.

A real liberty-oriented president hasn't been elected in what, 100 years? More? Of course beating the establishment will take everything we have.

But with Rand's stellar polling over the past year, his positioning and fundraising, becoming a force they can't ignore, and moving the conversation on so many issues, the record distrust in government... we've never had a better chance or opportunity in generations. So if we're not optimistic now, I'm not sure when we ever would be! :P

I was optimistic before this ISIS stuff started in Iraq. Now I'm not so sure. I just hope the situation calms down by 2016. Two years is quite a bit of time.

Don't sweat it, TC. Foreign policy always becomes a big thing for second term Presidents. Even if this one dies down, some more will pop up. I think it's best to take a long range view of things instead of worrying about the day to day. Don't worry about what you see on TV... People are sick of foreign adventurism. All the other candidates are going to be talking about getting us more involved. While that may poll well, people tend to use their vote to go with the more peaceful candidate.

IMO it depends on how the situation develops. People may think going back into Iraq is a good idea now, but if we're still there trying to beat ISIS come 2016 many voters will likely be much less enthusiastic about this adventure.

With this ISIS crisis I've been listening to the talk radio schmucks in recent weeks and that combined with what I'm hearing from GOP figures and from most right-wingers I know sounds like it's 2002-2004 all over again. I hear the neocon war propaganda machine humming just like it did back then and I just think it's going to be extremely difficult for Rand to make inroads with the base that seems hungry for another war.

Nope; not worried at all. In fact, what is going on in the Middle East just reinforces what Rand has said about our foreign policy.

Our government overthrew Saddam and the Iraqi Christians fled to Syria, because they knew Assad would accept them and let them live peacefully.

Our government wants to overthrow Assad and starts funding and arming the Syrian rebels, of which ISIS is a part.

ISIS starts beheading Christians in Syria and then goes over the border into Iraq and continues beheading Christians.

Our government acts all shocked and starts attacking ISIS after they crossed into Iraq, while still funding them in Syria.

To me, this looks like a fantastic reason for why we shouldn't be interfering in other sovereign nations' affairs.

When you look at it, it is the U.S. government who has been funding the beheading of Christians in the Middle East.

Note: That picture... the one on the far right was videotaped eating a human heart shortly after that picture with McCain.

Anybody Work for Romney Here? The guy is made of money. If I was Romney I would pay poor schmucks $10 an hour, 30 hour a week so no benefits, and have them camp out here at the RPF and be negative all the time about Rand Paul Republicans.

Mitt Romney trained them to say: Rand Paul is no Ron Paul. Which I guess is factual.

Don't be swayed by Romney people / Vote Rand Paul

Rand is going to need to work on regaining the trust of the conservative voters soon, otherwise he will ultimately not make it past the early states.

No problem TaftFan. I already have the Rand Paul endorsement from the next Governor in the state of Florida. In Florida Rand will lock up the nomination.

Only a BOZO could lose to those other Republicans running in 2016. You can't find 2 brain cells to rub together to get a spark between the lot of them.

Everyone is going to vote for Rand Paul.

This fight for liberty will never be won through the ballot box. It an idealogical struggle to change prevailing attitudes, to shift the collective consciousness away from the dead end street of political reform.

Yes, but in the meantime while we are trying to change attitudes, we want to slow the bad guys down and that is done, partly, through the ballot box.

Why was this moved? We can't even have a discussion about these kinds of issues in Rand's sub forum?

Really? Florida is going to be one of Rand's worst states IMO. Ron only got 7% last time around, his worst state before Super Tuesday by far. A governor endorsement can't make *that* much of a difference.

Crashland, the new Libertarian Governor Adrian Wyllie (L-FL) will have the most powerful voice in America when it comes to Governors.

These crooks Rick Scott and Charlie Crist will never know what hit them. They are the 2 most hated people in the Sunshine State.

Everyone in America is going to know about Libertarian Adrian Wyllie in just a second. Adrian loves Ron Paul and Rand Paul.

Pure fantasy at this point. SurveyUSA just released a poll showing Wyllie with 4% with Crist and Scott both over 40%. Unless you're trying to say something else?

Is this a joke? Besides, use a staffing agency if you're worried about benefits and make it their problem. That's what Romney would do.

I doubt there are any Romney people and I'm including Romney in that analysis. In fact, you're the only one I've read today who keeps mentioning Romney and wanting us to think Romney thoughts and worry about Romney infiltrators. I'd accuse you of being Romney himself if I thought Romney cared enough to defend his visage which I doubt Romney does.

Best thing we can have is a big bad 'war'. Its a clear cut issue to vote on, America is voting 75% against war.

We won't be the pro-war candidate. Nobody the GOP could run would be more pro-war than Hillary. GOP will be the anti-war candidate no matter what.
