After two weeks and deep consideration, my opinion stands: We need organization ASAP.

Alright, so I took a mini-hiatus from the forums after flying to Iowa for the whole Student Volunteer thing. Now, please try and get through this post (really, please); before that trip, before the TeaParty, I moaned and whined about the inevitable disorganization and muffled, unfocused passion of Ron Paul's grassroots.

We all want Ron Paul to win. Right? Right. We all believe that with enough focus and enough resolve, he can win. Right? Right. We all know that what he says is actual truth. Right? Right. So, we're all on the same page. We all want to help him.

Now, say one person has an idea, but, in the same hour, so do eighteen other people. Then, in that hour, there are idiots on the forum who unknowingly bump the one person's idea down, not up- down- with their personal choice to make comments on the threads of the eighteen others. The argument of many will be that the community has "chosen" that the eighteen ideas are more valid than that one person's. They think the community has spoken and, since we all are supposed to be on the same page, it's a fair decision to let that one person's idea die.

Of course, this argument would have been more plausible four months ago when this forum was smaller, when the November 5th idea was able to sprout into fruition. But now, I see an idea die in ten to twenty minutes merely because Ron Paul was mentioned on CNN, or Ron Paul was slammed by Fox, or a Ron Paul fan was on Nickelodeon.

So, I see this like like this: There are many, many people who want to help and many, many people who feel it'd be in the best interest of not only Ron Paul, but the country, that they become entreprenuers of their own idea and project. Though, they know they can't reach "Trevor Lyman Status" by themselves and they know their voice has to be heard.

THAT, supporters, is where our problem is. It can't be, not anymore. When was the last time a national massive project came up that was completely successful? Tea Party? Mr. Lyman's conception. Blimp? Again, Lyman. Bikers for Paul? Pre-forum surge.

Final thought on this: I see it as if the disorganization is killing the grassroots. Believe me or not, agree with me or not, but this is an opinion I have that I think is a SERIOUS threat. We need somewhere for people to go FOR all of the grassroots projects and I know that the Paulanteer has a newsletter listing, so why don't we try and shine some light onto that? Are you wondering what the point would be? We'd get supporters to learn about other projects they wouldn't normally learn about.

Now, listen! Hang in there for another paragraph or two, please.

While this disorganization is occuring, while these muffled ideas and projects are occuring, there are people that want to help. Yes, there are people that would like to do Free at last, but don't know about it. There are people who would like to help some Nevada meetup group, but don't know about it. There are people with so much excitement, so much newfound passion, that they need to express it, but . . . They don't know about the projects that they could actually help with, that would actually satisfy their quench for helping not only a man and his message, but a dying country that has infected its definitive message with the life-threatening virus of apathy and eroding individuality.

I'll stop rambling and say what I've been saying: There are people out there that want to help, but don't know where or how the oppurtunities are being offered. This occurs all while there are people in need of help, but they can't get their awesome idea or project to float in an ocean packed with other mediocre ideas or projects. And, now, this goes to say, that grassroots has almost reached the point of complete and total disorganization, that I almost see grassroots as a depressing portrait of muffled opinion, unfocused passion, and tapering resolve in a war we really were, and still somewhat are, winning.

The problem: We need a single website, maybe even a single page if it seems many are afraid someone would monopolize on the grassroots, that boasts the deadline, date, or planning of every project, fundraiser, or event of this huge army of underdogs and intellects that we have developed into. And it's not that disorganization and freedom is being taken away, it's just that we need a little bit of structure to easily express the various ideas and projects that grassroots is overflowing with.

Think of it like this, and this analogy may go over the heads of some, feelings and thoughts are disorganized, they're free, they're abstract, but the only way to communicate or express them are with words, with lines, curves, pictures, symbols . . . Basically, the only way to express and productively use our feelings, thoughts, or opinions are to use some type of structure which allows Paul's massive grassroots army to express itself without falling into a type of insanity, chaos, without falling into the black holes of miscommunication, disorganization, and confusion.

And, if we don't develop some type of structure, I'm afraid we'll have more failed projects, more decline in activity, and a one way ticket to watch a few passionate supporters spiral back down into the inert world of apathy on the mere reason that their opinion wasn't heard or that they didn't know what projects existed to focus their positive energies onto.

(And I went and posted this in the wrong forum, whisk it away to the . . . Grassroots Central . . . :))

You're absolutely right. After reading your post, I had it in mind to search for the thread that some time ago was written by a poster who wanted to organize, for his own benefit and ours, all the events and projects that were being planned at that time. However, before I set about doing that search, I clicked on the forum thread you linked to in your signature.

Guess what? It was the same thread. :)

More than organization, we need a leader.

The Martin Luther King moneybomb became the official date when Ron Paul mentioned it on TV.
Many competing moneybombs, including Payday, and the idea of no more moneybombs floated around for several weeks.
It was not a lack of communication, or overflow of information. But a lack of leadership.

Nobody had the authority to say: "This is the way things are going to be, and that is it".

Trevor had that leadership. He placed the concept of the Inflation Tax in the TeaParty website, even if many people were against it.
Many people now are against the idea of raising money on MLK day. But it is happening anyway.

Now that Trevor is gone, there is no leader. But the one that should be our leader is in no way in contact with us: Ron Paul himself.

Many people here say that they don't want anyone to tell them what to do. I respect that idea, but that is not the way great things are done.
Without a leader with a clear vision, and communication with his followers, there is no movement. I mean, there are many people moving, but in different directions. Without a clear goal, there is just no way to get there.

WE NEED A LEADER. And that is very contradictory and sad, because we are here to get a person to be elected as the leader of a whole country.

we should contact the guy who runs ronpaulforpresident2008.com about this. I'd say he dedicates at least 14 hours a day to our cause.

This website is something that itself needs to come out of an already-established source - the official campaign, dare I say it, or Lyman, dare I say it.

We need a site with credibility and professionalism that can channel the creativity and pursuits of the grassroots, and I made that clear in the thread of Constructive Criticism for the campaign.

I suggested the campaign make this site. They'd get more amazing ad ideas, slogans etc than they'd know what to do with....

I agree, the campaign should give out a homework assignment every other day to us online...call a congressman, write a letter, read a certain article, research a topic, clean up a park, i don't know??? my meetup is great but i want to do something on my own...

RP 08

well lets start with this thought --lets help nevada and sc --if you are in close states and can help them canvas tomorrow put that out here maybe someone will pick it up --if you are in another state lets do phone calls I am working on that right now for us here in Indiana --that is the 2 things I would start with and maybe if people post here or start 1 and I mean 1 thread we can get everyone in once place we dont need a leader we just need 1 Thread for what we are doing right this second and Nevada and SC are first

Gee, I've been saying that since I joined.
They accused me of being a troll :D

Pardon the simplistic analogy.
We have a good and wise king.
A bad general (the campaign manager).
And a mob. (Which should be an organized militia instead.)

What do you need to do?
Dr. Paul has to appoint lieutenants in every state.
Directives from the lieutenants are assumed to be directives from the 'king'.
(That is since the general is clearly not organizing the 'militia' - in our specific case.)

Read up on Churchill's commandos.
Focus on the 20% who produce 80% of the results.
But to achieve anything, you will need Dr. Paul's personal blessing.

Otherwise, you'll be one of thousands - seen as Ron Paul related money-making schemes.
Which may not specifically benefit the official campaign.

That's a great way to think of it.

I agree, completely. Lyman was the leader, unchosen by the "mob", but outted as such by who we are up against. We do need someone to stand up. And it's awesome so many people responded without calling me a troll. Who could we have make the website? Is it a website or a web page? Can we make THIS a project? A project FOR projects?

Yeah, but before anything, we need a webmaster . . .

My dream for it: The typical U.S. map, think like the AOL poll one, but when you click a state it brings the state forward, you can then click a county, or look at the events happening in the state as a whole. Then from there, after clicking whatever county, you get events and links for that district or county. It'd be nice and neat, organized . . . But more than likely very hard to make. But it'd be a way to sprout local, state, national, or worldwide projects into being successful.

And, again . . . We need a webmaster, and, at the very very least, a leader to endorse, sponsor, or boast about the site. So, someone, wanna help this get productive?

How would the campaign evolve with a general called Boondoggle? That would stump the MSM. :D

I don't want to be a "general" or the administer of any site. I want to see someone, a webmaster, someone good with web design, produce a website that covers all of Ron Paul's supporters' grassroots projects, events, and deadlines. That's all, the only thing I want to do is to find someone that actually can do it.

No one can "lead" a grassroots effort.

Focus on what you can do, whether at a precinct, county, State, or National level.

Not what you think others should be doing.

What you can do.

Be your own leader, organize your own friends/acquainteces.

I started last night with a facebook/meetup meeting.

These forums, while great fun and informative, are a side show. Entertainment.

The real work is not being done in here.

It's outside where the voters are.

That's a great speech and all, but I'm not talking about a person leading anything, just a website informing the grassroots masses of every project, event, or deadline. I'm not telling anyone how to do anything, just trying to provide a medium in which they can find things they could be doing more easily. You ask what can I do? Well, what if what I wanted to do was someone else's idea or proposal, but that idea was buried by tons of topics created in an effort to "Entertain".

Seriously, did you even read my post? You've definitely misinterpreted or attached your own meaning to what I mean by "organize". Anyways, the call for a webmaster is still open to take the project on . . .

Ron Pauls' campaign is suppose to be a reflection of how are government is suppose to work. Each state talk to each other let them know what worked and what did not work. Then each individual state talks about the issues that pertain to them the most. There is no organization because it is up to us to do it. If we want what he is selling we must buy into it.

Use these sites as ways of communicating to each other. The results come from us working together in our communities. Start small then grow.

Bringing centralized organization to grassroots should be about as easy as herding cats, but I agree that it will be an essential component going forward. Even more than RP's candidacy that is a fairly singular focus - moving to Congressional, State and Local levels will require a top-down organization of utilizing the collective strengths of its supporters.

So, count me in for whatever I can do. I'm a Software Engineer with experience in graphic design and building dynamic, data-driven and scalable web sites.

One caveat...you need to recognize that any organization would need to be fairly all-encompassing if it the desire were to live beyond RP's presidential bid and that includes: fundraising, GOTV, lawyers, platforms, endorsements and so on.
