Regardless of how you feel about its acceptability, can we distinguish between mild spanking and "beating the snot out?" If not, why not?
I can. And neither is acceptable for my child.

I can. And neither is acceptable for my child.
While defending Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson amid child abuse allegations, Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush said on Tuesday that, in some situations, he will "harshly" discipline his 1-year-old daughter.
"I most definitely discipline my daughter. I have a 1-year-old daughter and I discipline her," Bush said on WFAN’s “Boomer & Carton” show, via CBS New York. "Obviously every person is different. And I definitely will use my best judgement to discipline her, depending on the situation on what happens. I definitely will try to ... obviously not leave bruises or anything like that on her. But I definitely will discipline her harshly depending on, again what the situation is."
Bush isn't alone in defending Peterson. Former NBA star and current TNT analyst Charles Barkley told Jim Rome for CBS Sports' "The NFL Today" that "every black parent in the South" hits their kids.
A one year old! This is barbarism, not discipline. How can a person be cool with hitting a baby?!
That's fine. As long as you recognize that they aren't the same thing.
JHC---how do you discipline a 1-yr old?
Put in ear plugs and smile at them. This works with women too.
I don't care how "fine" some people think they are after growing up like that.
Wish it worked with men.....
The best you can do is get them a sandwich and a beer.
I am going to go out huge limb here and assume that most of those who 'whoop' their children lack impulse control and have violent tendencies.
They likely have never heard of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delayed_gratification
