Absolutely the worst question Tim Russert can ask Ron paul

It's irrelevant and it's absurd to even be asked of a Presidential candidate. The fact that this is the question you're most worried about makes me think that tomorrow should be a fantastic interview! Ron Paul also speaks honestly and the truth hurts. If it costs him some votes, it costs him some votes. He's not going to change his view to please a few democrats. He is running for the nomination of the Republican Party. Go Ron Paul!

Uhhh...who suggested he should change his views? Didn't see anyone here suggest that.

Ron saying he does not believe in evolution is nuts.

But us responding that the office he is seeking has nothing to do with education is how we deal with it.

Ron is a lot older than a lot of us. He grew up in a time when being religious was basically mandatory, and was drilled into your head 100%.

Question: Do you believe in evolution?

Possible Answers

Dodge
-My background was in medicine not evolutionary biology.

Semi-Dodge
-I think it oversimplifies the issue to think of evolution as a yes or no question.

Neutral Answer
-Certainly we can accept that species change over time, how these changes occur I can't answer because I studied medicine not evolution. Although I happen to believe we were created in gods image.

Counter Attack
-Are you referring to natural selection, genetic drift, Gene flow, or the origin of life? It's a complex topic that many scientists have dedicated their lives to and I don't think it's an appropriate question for a presidential candidate.

Welcome Aaya. :)
Nice first post. Personally I think the right answer would be a question.

"Do you believe that someone who does not subscribe to the theory of evolution can protect & defend the constitution as well as someone who does?"

Probably something about "starving children" if we don't support the welfare state and redistribution of wealth in general.

I could see that, and I could see it extended worldwide. What would you do to help the people in developing Iraq after the pull out? What would you do to help the genocide in Darfur?

I think Dr. Paul would do very well on these questions. On the post-pull out, we open up trade with the established government that the iraqis are trying to run, and establish a commerce-based relationship. Darfur- that needs to be decided by Congress if America must meddle there, but is more a UN ---not US--- responsibility.

I love Ron, not because I agree with everything he says, but because he tells the truth and wants to do the best for the people. He is also intelligent enough to see through the smokescreen and to the plans of the global elite and realise what is really really going on.

I know it's hard to believe that a man that sounds so logical when he speaks could reject evolution, but personally, I don't care, because it doesn't really matter in the scheme of things, whether evolution is correct or not. I mean Ron always cites the founding fathers and appears patriotic in doing so, but you have to remember that alot of those folks were slave-owners aswell (although slave labor was also indoctrinated into the culture and economy).

Ron may not be perfect, but truth lays the groundwork for perfection.

In my opinion, the man is a HERO!

This is a useless thread meant to incite friction.

The only thing Dr. Paul needs to do is tell the truth, share his beliefs and focus on the issues that's facing America, and he'll be fine like he always is - an honest man.

Besides, "do you believe in evolution?" is not the worst thing he could ask.

The worst thing Tim Russert could ask is "Dr Paul, does this look infected?"

The reason you think I might be a troll is because I speak honestly.
The truth hurts.
Relax? In case you hadn't noticed our nation is on the line. There is no time to relax.

So what is your point in brining this up? The man believes what he believes, why are you trying to get people to argue about it?

I'm so confused, what did I miss? When the question was posed at a debate wasn't it Ron who didn't raise his hand when asked if he didn't believe in Evolution?

The perception of many people on the internet of traditional values and religious beliefs is way out of wack with reality.

Americans don't care whether Ron Paul believes in evolution, and you shouldn't either. All you should care about is that he doesn't want the federal government to tell schools what they should teach.

We have the same situation on abortion.

Regardless, Ron will tell everyone how he feels if asked. Considering his track record on his explanations, any rational viewer will be able to see his side of the argument when he is finished.

Evolution still a theory. Tomorrow, Vulcans could land and say "We put you here. Want us to upload the video on youtube?"

You guys are fucktards. He's never said hes a young earth creationist. He is very agnostic on the issue. From answers hes given, it seems like he believes in God, believes we are created in the image of God, but doesnt necessarily want to jump to conclusions about much else, or even what the mechanism of creation was.

Now that doesnt seem to justify me calling you all fucktards. Well, youre all fucktards because, therse a thread on this in Ron paul on the issue rights now, at the very top, and gives proof that he DOES believe in evolution, but is still somewhat agnostic about it.

Probably because he is not interested in promoting his personal beliefs about private issues which have no bearing on his fitness to serve in federal office.

I didn't like his response on Evolution either but i can care less about evolution. Evolution is not going to help me making a living or solve problems. I am more worried about human life, privacy, economy and my children's future.

Because...

So what is your point in brining this up? The man believes what he believes, why are you trying to get people to argue about it?

Because he might be our next president. Because some are concerned about his more traditionally conservative viewpoints which often overlap with evangelicals and contradict libertarians. Because admitting you don't believe in evolution bespeaks a distrust of science so deep that it would raise doubts about ones capacity to fairly analyze economic and social issues.

People who believe the world is flat may be able to make chefs or great artists or great accountants, but I wouldn't want them sailing my ship.

I think some of you neophytes need to refrain from making comments until you have some idea what you're talking about.
Just because someone presents a difficult question does not mean they are attempting to stir up strife.
If you are unsure of yourself then maybe do some research, study other peoples posts and generally refrain from speaking until you can make a useful comment.
Coming up with answers to difficult questions is a part of staying ahead of the curve.

Sofar there are some very well thought out responses in this thread and a few no so.
