ABC Cuts 3 From Presidential Debate

By DAVID BAUDER – 17 minutes ago

NEW YORK (AP) — ABC News is eliminating Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter and Democrats Dennis Kucinich and Ron Gravel from its prime-time presidential debates Saturday night because they did not meet benchmarks for their support.

The Democratic debate three days before the New Hampshire primary will include Iowa caucus winner Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Bill Richardson. It starts at 7 p.m. EDT.

Shortly after Democrats leave the stage in Manchester, N.H., Republicans Mike Huckabee, John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul will arrive for their own forum.

ABC anchor Charles Gibson will moderate both debates.

The network set up benchmarks to narrow the field for the debates. Candidates had to meet at least one of three criteria: place first through fourth in Iowa, poll 5 percent or higher in one of the last four major New Hampshire surveys, or poll 5 percent or higher in one of the last four major national surveys.

ABC said the rules were quite inclusive, and that none of the candidates objected ahead of time. Its decision was made easier by Democrats Joe Biden and Chris Dodd dropping out of the race Thursday night.

I think this is more important than the FAUX NEWS "debate" anyway. Only neocon lapdogs and their idiot retarded children believe ANYTHING that piece of shit network puts out anyway. More people will watch the ABC debate.

I feel a bit sorry for Duncan Hunter in one way.....although he is a warmonger

funny, those are the people we need if this campaign is going to get momentum.

Despite the fact that I don't like his views much, Duncan Hunter is much like Dr. Paul in the sense that he stands steadfastly by his convictions, whether popular or not.

Uh, a good majority of Republicans watch Fox News whether we like them or not. WE NEED FOX NEWS EXPOSURE if we want to WIN.

Regarding the op: that's going to be interesting on the Democratic side too since suddenly the field will be narrowed down to four in the debates instead of eight. I read an article yesterday about how the only problem the Democrats really had was which candidate they liked the best since most of them they could picture supporting.

Back to the main subject: this'll be good since it'll make Fox look even worse if they decide to insist on sidelining Ron Paul. The only argument they have left is the one about the size of the bus. Ha.

Wow Ron Gravel. I'm glad I'm studying to be an editor/journalist. Those who can spell are in need now.

I'm beginning to think that editors are becoming a thing of the past. Ron Gravel???? WTF ...What kind of high schooler press release is this?
