Now this is something VERY unique... Don't move this thread, it is entirely appropriate to be here, just read all of this...

This is Rob Bell:

Rob Bell is the person that is shaking things up within the Christian Church. He has written 2 books, both very controversial, one called Sex God: Exploring the Endless Connections between Sexuality and Spirituality, the other called Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith. He has a Church in Granville, Michigan, and it is the fastest growing Church in American history. He has spoken out against much of the Christian establishment, promoting the life of Jesus over religious beliefs. Most pre-believers and people that consider themselves Christian but not religious just love the guy. He is the creator of the amazing nooma videos. Find them on YouTube. Here is the URL of his Church: http://marshill.org/

Ok, just wanted to give you a bit of a bio.

Well, 2 weeks ago, he did something very different. For his Sunday message, he took on the persona of the Apostle Paul. Paul wrote most of the New Testament. In this message, he treats the audience as the Roman Guard. He speaks out against the Roman Empire, and the parallels to the American Empire are NOT accidental. Rob Bell has many many times spoken out against what America is doing around the world by comparing it to the Roman Empire.

The reason I bring this to your attention here, is because this short 30 min "scene" is a powerful tool in converting neo-con Christians. Take a listen and you will see why. If you're not a Bible reader, some of his stuff will go right over you head. Rob Bell is a gifted communicator. Get this MP3 to your Huckabee loving friends and see how they react...

What is funny is that the sheeple neocons believe we are the new Rome. The only problem is that they also think that 9/11 fulfilled a prophecy about the New Rome (which actually does make sense when reading the passage) in Revelations, and yet they are still willing to fully support the neocons.

Rob is a great guy, I've known him personally for a few years now. Glad to see some RP'ers are catching on :)

I love Rob Bell! Velvet Elvis was so good! Unfortunately, many conservative Christians think he's too "liberal" and probably won't pay attention to much that he says.

This is pretty good. I haven't listened to a sermon in probably 10 years, but I really like this & liked the end of it.

I will definitely have to send this to my parents.

It's Mystery Babylon in Revelation.

I believe that the world is always setup so that Christ could come back at any second and that all the prophecies will be fulfilled, also. Mystery Babylon is a perfect example of it. The United States, The British Empire, and the Roman Empire all fit the description of Mystery Babylon.

Currently I believe that the US is Mystery Babylon (just like Britain and Rome were before us). However, if there is a SHTF scenario in the United States, and we don't recover from it (ie, some other countries become the "superpowers") I believe that Dubai in the United Arab Emirates will be Mystery Babylon. Christ could come back today, or 500 years from now. Either way, the world is always setup so that all the prophesies can and will be fulfilled. Mystery Babylon (never heard it called New Rome before) is just one example.

Read up on MB in the King James. Then spend a few days reading up on Dubai.

Well I don't for a second believe all that about Mystery babylon. And I don't believe Jesus could return at any time because key prophecies have yet to be fulfilled such as the rebuilding of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem and the recommencement of animal sacrifices. but each to his own...

If I recall correctly, Rome collapsed when the Christians took over.

Hey - good to see you outside of Fark.

The fall Rome was a little trickier than that - but one major problem was the codification of religious law into state law. Largely because it turned Rome from a political organization into cultural police.

remember also after Rome came the Holy Roman Empire and to me thats a closer representation of what we will become if the religious right/Neocons take over.

Remember also in revelation Babylon is depicted by a woman riding the beast. The Woman signifies church (church gone bad/whore) and a beast in revelation means nation/empire/kingdom....both together is Babylon. basically A false church legislating its beliefs.

One has to consider also that a lot of Prophecy that churches today teach have been changed to something different than was taught in the beginning by early reformers like Luther and such. Prophecy now is mostly taught through the Futurist point of view which was started by the Jesuits during the reformation to combat the protestant movement and its prophecy teachings.

The protestant movement after studying the bible for themselves taught prophecy through a historicist point of view. Now, though, Christians believe this type of prophecy the Jesuits taught which said the antichrist will come in the future, take seat in Israel, have a Temple built, have seven years a tribulation during that time...etc. none of this things where taught by the early reformers but where later introduced by the Jesuits to confuse the people and have them set their eyes on Israel instead at the Americas or Europe. If the reformers new what was being taught as prophecy they would be turning in their graves. just like the early United states reformers (George Washington, Jefferson ets.) would be turning in their graves if they new was happening in American politics.

Just like we study what the forefathers of America taught we need to study what the forefathers of the church taught...cause it is not the same ...it has been corrupted through time and changed.
