So I just spent god knows how long writing this email to my mom. I have been discussing RP with her lately and she has been very accepting of his ideas. The only thing holding her back is the "oh so holy" faux news telling her huckabee is the only person you can vote for as a christian.

All comments and critiques are welcome!

Letter:

Hey mom. I know I keep bugging you about this Ron Paul guy and all, but when you believe in something SO much, as I do with Ron Paul, its pretty much impossible to not share it with others! You and I definitely share this quality which is pretty cool.

So I realize that you have paid attention and are aware of most of Ron Paul's stances on the issues, but I still very much would like you to watch a few videos on him. You have told me yourself that you like him, but just do not see eye to eye with him on issues like the war and also do not see him as very presidential material. The reason I am so eager to share all this material with you is because I had the exact same doubts about the guy that you have when I first started paying attention to him. As i educated myself, I began to see it differently. The thing is, I am college student that has one thing: WAY TO MUCH FREE TIME .....and I have used hours and hours of it to research Ron Paul and the other people running as well. In all this research, I realized that all the objections I thought I had against him were really just me not fully understanding things. I now also see why Ron Paul isn't as known as the other guys and why he is not talked about more. 99% of sain regular Americans with a job and/or a family to take care of don't have the time to sort through all this political bs in order to get an unbiased view of what's going on. I wouldn't know most of this crap either probably if I was working a full time job and paying bills and such. But I do have all this free time and spend at LEAST 2 hours a day updating myself on it.

So Here is what I have done: I got direct links to all the Ron Paul material I want to show you and put it together onto this email. I know you dont have a lot of time, but also really want you to see all of this so you can maybe just watch one or 2 now and then the rest when you have time.

Every candidate has moments where they look awkward or just plain weird, I mean, we all know Bush certainly has his moments of awkwardness. Ron Paul, Mcain, Huckabee, Romney....I have seen them all get thrown off balance or stumble on their words and, at the moment, they look like a complete bumbling idiot. They also have times where they shine and are able to get across exactly who they are. That is the side of Ron Paul I wanted to show you.

My Thoughts on Mike Huckabee:
I have researched a lot about Huckabee and do not doubt his integrity as a PERSON. The guy was a preacher and when I first heard him speak, I really thought I had found my man. My problem with him came when I realized his record as a politician is weak. He is not consistent on his political stances, which is really what matters to me about a politician. I do not understand how he can claim to be so conservative, because he really is very liberal in his ideas about the size and scope of government. An example of this is his belief in making welfare available to illegal immigrants. He justifies this in saying we need to be compassionate. The problem is, you can only increase available welfare money if you increase TAXES. His motives are good, but he wants to increasing taxes and therefore increase the size of government, which is NEVER, EVER good.

Sorry for blabbing your head off about this, but I spent 2 1/2 hours putting this email together just for you so even if you think it all sounds ridiculous please just watch the videos when you have some time. THANKS MOM I LOVE YOU!!!!

Nice email...

I have to wonder does she realize Mike wants to perpetuate war rather than peace?

I am a firm believer in 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'.
Seems any Christian would have the same belief.

Has she noticed Mike change from the way he was in Iowa to a different person in New Hampshire?

Does she believe Mike would actually be true to the oath of office he would have to take when being president?

Does she know he gets his foreign policy advice from the president of the Counsel on Foreign Relations? The Counsel on Foreign Relations is the people who want to have a one world government. They want to join Canada, the United States and Mexico into one union called the North American Union.

These things are very important.
The way I see it, Mike is a chameleon and changes to match where he is at the time. He will say anything whether he believes it or not just to get in the White House.

Well, that's my view of Mike.
Best I can come up with right now. Hope it helps some. :)

just tell your mom that Dr. Paul is a great person and a christian like huckabee and he has really great ideas, and tell her to change her mind because "the Ron Paul" guy is really great.

I believe there are many issues that MH is addressing to evangelical Christians because he knows their fundamental belief system and knows how to push their hot buttons.

One is abortion, second is same sex marriage, third is support for Israel and connected with that is support for the war in Iraq. What you say about your mother's stance on the war inclines me to believe that the third issue is the most important for her. Dr. Paul is clearly prolife, would get the federal government out of the issue altogether and on marriage he does not believe the state should have any say at all. So, on these two your mother is probably onside with RP. The third one is the sticker.

The question you must ask your mom is:

"Do you believe that the reconstitution of the state of Israel has been ordained by God?"

If she does, then, according to the scriptures, Israel must not look to military alliances or depend upon horses or chariots for her strength, but on her God alone. When America supports Israel, giving her foreign aid and armaments, fighting her battles for her, America is acting "in the place of" God. This is the position of antichrist (the Greek prefix anti- means either "against" or "in the place of"). Israel is too dependent on America. The best policy for America to pursue with regard to Israel is the one put forward by Dr. Paul. Provide no foreign aid or armaments to Israel or any of her neighbors. Have friendship and trade with them all. Israel will then be free to pursue her own foreign policy without reference continually to America, whether the State Department or the President.

You can then show her that the present occupation of Iraq is not because America has any national security interest there but rather her ally Israel has concerns about all her neighbours and America is conducting this war for her benefit and of course the military industrial complex. There is a very strong Israel lobby in the US and the evangelical Christians are very pro Israel and believe that they should support her interests. They do not see that not only are they acting against their own Constitution and the best intersts of their own country, they are also not helping Israel, according to the clear teaching of scripture. This must be made clear to all evangelical supporters of Mike Huckabee because he is definitely using this belief of theirs to gain their support.

When most Christians see the light about this war they are horrified that they should have suppported the wholesale killing of so many people, completely contrary to the teaching of Jesus Christ whom they profess to follow. I know that is how I reacted, I am a Christian and at one time supported the war and Israel without question.

did you show your Mom's Ron Paul's statement of faith, or his great distaste for the "elitist secular left" destroying our religious heritage?

Statement of faith: http://www.covenantnews.com/ronpaul070721.htm
The War against Religion: http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul148.html

also, you might want to head on over to the John Birch Society www.jbs.org look under their "tools" then "conspiracy" page....send her the article on the CFR, then point out how Huckabee's campaign adviser is President of the CFR (be sure to point out there are a large number of Christians at the John Birch Society...and how they stand for the family, freedom, the constitution, and this country).

there's some Christians that you just can't win over because they don't get it....still, there are some that are just hungering for someone like Ron Paul...they just haven't heard him on all his positions, or they see an incorrect picture of him because of the mainstream media.

I wish you luck!

Look up a bit about Ron Paul's early life on Wikipedia.

Ron Paul started working when he was 5 years old. Strong work ethic goes a long way to building character and integrity, Christians admire this.

Tell her he has been married (to the SAME woman) for 50 years!!

He was drafted and served as a Flight Surgeon in Korea.

He has 5 kids and 18 Grandchildren

In his youth he studie to become a Lutheran Minister, before becoming a doctor. Two of his brothers ARE Lutheran Ministers.

Here is an article by Paul entitled "The War on Religion"
http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul244.html

Here is an article by Paul on the Hypocrisy of Washington using religion to look good.
http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul244.html

Here is the transcript of an excellent pamphlet published in the 80s by Pastor Sheldon Emry, exposing our current Banking System (The Federal Reserve) for what it really is. My dad gave it to me when I came home angry after learning about the system. It should be a must read for EVERYONE on Earth, and it explains why it is so important that someone stop this system, or in a nutshell why we need to elect Ron Paul.

And if your mother would like to know, his name really means "Humble Leader"

I hope this helps.

Man thanks to everybody for your responses to my post. I really was not expecting people to actually read all of it and offer so much help.

My My mom and her husband are both REALLY stuck on the idea that islamic terrorists are out to kill us all and we are the only ones that can stop them. I definetly am going to put together another email for her on this issue alone. They ordered that movie "obsession" which is about the islamic extremest's intention to wipe us all out. Ever since they saw that movie its like talking to a brick wall whenever the issue comes up.

The good thing is that my mom is very reasonable and I used to feel the exact same way she does about it. In fact, Sometimes I find myself getting sucked back into that way of thinking whenever I accadentally watch faux news or cnn for too long. I just hope i can convert her before the oklahoma primary.

I mean hell, She voted for Ross Perot back in the day so i know shes not afraid to vote against the main stream!

Yeah I used to be a Terror Junkie myself.

I just find it hard to believe that we actually have anything to fear from a bunch of guys that can't afford to dress in anything nicer than rags. :D

We are going broke fighting a group of people that aren't associated with any government, we are using state of the art technology and they are using makeshift explosives.

It just doesn't make any sense that we were able to fund the biggest arms race in history with the Soviets, but we are going broke fighting a small group of wacky civilians in a third world country who have no mechanized army, and if we secured who we let into the country properly, absolutely no means of getting into America.

Here's a random statistic that shows our ineptness at fighting terrorists.

Afghanistan's Opium production was at an all time low of 8200 hectares of Opium in 2001 with the Taliban's outlawing of production based on Islamic Law.

In 2007 the production has skyrocketed to overan estimated 190,000 hectares.

Do you know who this Opium trade is funding?

Al Qaeda

Yet our military does not burn the fields.

EDIT: Plus, the theory of "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here" really is very illogical.

Our fighting them over there does nothign to stop them from coming here, and I have never heard an arguement, much less a good arguement as to how fighting them over there prevents another 9/11.

Our CIA indicates that fighting them over there only makes Al Qaeda's numbers grow. So if we kill one Al Qaeda member, two seem to be ready to sign up.

Good videos of choice. However, I think your mom might get you back on one your lines. You said being a College Student you have WAY TO MUCH FREE TIME. Im not sure this is something she would like to hear :-) im sure she would like for you to use some of that free time putting your nose in your books. Anyway im glad to hear im not the only one spending at least 2 hours everyday researching this stuff too.

I've taken a multipronged approach to this issue before and I think my argument has been very effective.

--------------------

1) The main reasons given for going to war in the first place were proven to be false. Saddam was not stockpiling WMDs and Saddam was not harboring/aiding al-Qaeda. Both the 9/11 Commission report and a subsequent Senate intelligence report confirm this. Also, the current administration went into this War knowing full-well what would happen after Saddam was removed from power. Cheney talks about this in the video below.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A47812-2004Jun16.html
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-09-08-iraq-report_x.htm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YENbElb5-xY

2) Bush claimed, "America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world." This is a gross oversimplification for why we were and are going to continue to be attacked by radical Islamists. The real reasons are are found in:

a) bin Laden’s own words. Bin Laden himself refutes time and time again what Bush is saying about them simply hating our freedoms and prosperity. He gives specific reasons for why were and are going to continue to be attacked - US military forces in their Holy Land (especially Saudi Arabia), US support of Middle Eastern police-states (especially Jordan/Saudia Arabia), unconditional US support of Israel, and the ongoing assault on civilians in Iraq.

Bin Laden also specifically says that Americans should read "Imperial Hubris" by US author Michael Scheuer, if they truly want to understand the reasons for why the US is so hated and will continue to be attacked by radical Islamists. Mr. Scheuer was the former head of the CIA's bin Laden unit and was charged with capturing or killing bin Laden. Mr. Scheuer understands the motivations of bin Laden and his followers and bin Laden himself agrees.

b) The 9/11 Commission Report. The report determined that the animosity towards the US felt by Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the "principal architect" of the 9/11 attacks, stemmed "not from his experiences there as a student, but rather from his violent disagreement with U.S. foreign policy favoring Israel." It also states that this is the same reason Marwan al-Shehhi, the pilot of one of the WTC planes, did it, too.

c) The FBI's testimony to Congress about motivations for 9/11. The FBI testified that al-Qaeda had specific goals - "One of the primary goals of Sunni extremists is the removal of U.S. military forces from the Persian gulf area, most notably Saudi Arabia."

3) Most Iraqis do not want us there any longer. Most also believe that the US being there is causing most of the sectarian violence. Multiple polls and studies confirm this, including ones commissioned by the US State Dept and Army. Continuing the occupation against the will of the Iraqi people is not democratic and only causes more US resentment in Iraq and the Islamic world. Staying when we are not wanted also violates the fundamental democratic principle of self-determination. The Iraqi people realize that they have to figure this out for themselves now. Why are we not honoring the will of the Iraqi people?

http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/p...astnafricara/165.php?nid=&id=&pnt=165&lb=brme
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/18/AR2007121802262_pf.html

4) Thousands of innocent people are being killed as a result of the occupation. A conservative estimate is that ~85,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed from 2003 to the present. The 85,000 number is based on media reports - a method known to underestimate deaths because many go unreported. In 2006, Iraq's health minister himself estimated 150,000 civilians have been killed since 2003. Even worse, when a statistical model was employed in 2006, it was determined that the civilian death toll could actually be as high as 600,000. To put this in perspective - Human Rights Watch estimated Saddam Hussein's regime killed 250,000 to 290,000 people over 20 years. The continued killing of these Iraqi civilians only motivates the Islamists to become more radical. Put yourself in an Iraqi's position. How would you feel if your innocent relatives were being killed? How long before you would begin to resent and despise the US?

http://www.iraqbodycount.org/
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/10/AR2006111000164.html
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/10/AR2006101001442.html

5) We truly cannot afford to continue the occupation. We have already funded over $611 billion for the War and occupation to date. If the US gradually reduced its troop level in Iraq to 30,000 by 2010, the occupation will end up costing well over $1 trillion when interest on the borrowed money and veteran healthcare is accounted for. This is a best-case scenario and is based on real costs to date. Worst-case is over $2.4 trillion. We already have a current national debt of over $9.1 trillion. Continuing to borrow hundreds of billions of dollars from foreign countries like China and Saudi Arabia to fund the occupation puts not only our future economy, but also our national security, at great risk.

You can also go negative. Unlike RP, Huckabee has some serious moral and ethical concerns:

RP is also a Christian and his statement of faith can be found here: http://christiansforronpaul.com/statement.htm

Compare and contrast RP's record with Huckabee's for her and the truth will be revealed.

I wrote this a while back:

------------------------

RP supporters risk alienating Christians who would potentially support RP when they lump all Christians together as irrational or naive. You can't group all Christians together. Some of us (myself included) have the ability to think for ourselves and look beneath the surface for the truth. Even so, I recognize that many other Christians out there simply take what a candidate has to say at face value without really doing their homework, especially a Republican "Christian" candidate. Their thinking is very simplistic - Huckabee is a Baptist minister, so he must share my values and be the right guy for the job. Their critical thinking stops right there and the Iowa exit polls prove it. They never dig any deeper to determine for themselves if the candidate's past behavior and voting record actually reflects Biblical values. Because if they did, they would see that Huckabee has some serious moral and ethical concerns.

http://www.newswithviews.com/baldwin/baldwin414.htm

Regardless, the heart of the problem is that many Christians (and Americans in general for that matter) are severly lacking in basic critical thinking skills. Most people today are gullible and easily buy into a slick presentation. Instead of researching the facts, they rely on a 30-sec TV ad or 10-sec soundbite to educate themselves about a candidate or issue.

For instance, Bush claims to be Christian and a lot of his support comes from Christians. Yet, when interviewed by ABC's Charles Gibson, Bush revealed his lack of even basic understanding of Christian doctrine. Here is a verbatim transcript from that interview:
Q. "Do we all worship the same God, Christian and Muslim?"
A. "I think we do. We have different routes of getting to the Almighty."
Q. "Do Christians and non-Christians and Muslims go to heaven in your mind?"
A. "Yes they do. We have different routes of getting there."
http://www.newswithviews.com/baldwin/baldwin407.htm

Jesus himself said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). He did not merely point the way to God. He himself claimed to be the only way to the Father and the source of eternal truth and life. It is clear from the interview that even though Bush claims to be Christian, he doesn't even understand or believe in basic Christian doctrine.

Here's a great article (by a Christian pastor) that goes into more detail about why the Christian Right's blind support for Bush and the Republican Party is just plain WRONG: http://www.newswithviews.com/baldwin/baldwin417.htm

If you want more Christians to vote for RP instead of Huckabee, you need to show them the truth behind Huckabee's deceptions and contrast it with RP's record and behavior. This should cause them to think for themselves and question their blind support for Huckabee. When they do, it should only be a matter of time before they reach the logical conclusion of RP being the superior Christian candidate. What's more, this same method can be used to debunk the other candidates as well.
