Ugh, that's awful...so many dead, and I can only imagine the injuries may be as gruesome as Boston but on a larger scale.

OK, that was really sweet. This tweeter was really worried about the animals. But looking at the blast area picture I posted, I don't think these houses had horses. Although if the entire area is being evacuated for fumes, there might be some, somewhere.

What about anhydrous?

Boils at something like -20 or -30 degrees F. At std temp and press it is a gas. I don't know that it is explosive - I vaguely recall it as being stable and requiring some sort of sensitizer or maybe a catalyst, but I'm not really a terribly competent chemist so what in hell do I know? Lots of energy does not always mean highly explosive.

RT @FoxNews WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES: Injuries reported after blast rips through Texas plant http://fxn.ws/XHEU9u

they aren't really graphic, they had to evacuate a senior convelescent home and there are a few old people in hospital gowns being taken out in wheel chairs. I don't think they are injured so much as unhappy, and not wanting to be stared at. but there are a lot of pictures of the damage

First two seniors in those images are bloody, but compared to Boston they don't look like that bad of injuries.

Speaking of which, I heard a rumor that the Boston devices were at least initially thought to have possibly been triacetone triperoxide. If so, then whoever is responsible is SERIOUSLY insane. It is a primary high explosive compound of highly strained and thereby unstable bonds. My understanding is that the synthesis path is VERY dangerous and as likely to kill the manufacturer as any intended targets. Has anyone else heard anything similar?

Which would explain the bomb sniffing dogs not picking it up.

I'd hesitate to post it, but since just the chemical name itself probably has the feds crawling all over this thread:

It's called "Mother of Satan".
