A Fertilizer Plant Just Exploded Near Waco, Texas

there were warnings about the type and degree of stateside sabotage during WW2 that a well versed
Nazi fifth column operative could bring about if even somewhat remotely familiar with fertilizer plants

Watching the local news. People are worried about a second tank that could explode at any time. Scent of ammonia fills the air.

The wind is crazy strong tonight unfortunately. Homes are ablaze. Every street is loaded with flashing lights and people moving around and scattering everywhere.

Thoughts and prayers. I knew when I saw that mushroom cloud that "several injuries" was a gross understatement.

WTF?

Crews on the Scene of an Explosion in NE OKC
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Firefighters and emergency personnel are investigating after an explosion in NW Oklahoma City.

The explosion occurred just before 9:30 Wednesday night at 812 N. Bryant.

Officials tell us it was a tank battery that exploded. The cause is unknown at this time. The area surrounding the tank battery is being evacuated.

Police, EMSA, and the Oklahoma City Fire Department are all on scene. There are several propane tanks in the area that are threatened by the flames.

We'll bring you more details as they come in.

Firefighters were reported among those injured during the explosion, which occurred before 8 p.m. at West Fertilizer Inc., just off Interstate 35, about 80 miles south of Dallas.
Authorities were asking residents of the town to evacuate, and there were reports of dozens of people injured, including residents of a nearby nursing home.

A fire had broken out earlier at the fertilizer plant, and the explosion occurred while firefighters were trying to put it out.

It was a small fire and then water got sprayed the ammonia nitrate, and it exploded just like the Oklahoma City bomb,” said Jason Shelton, a clerk at the Czech Best Western Hotel in West. “I live about a thousand feet from it and it blew my screen door off and my back windows. There’s houses leveled that were right next to it. We've got people injured and possibly dead.”

There you go.

Oh no. I was hoping that this happened after hours when the plant was closed and nobody was there.

I didn't even know that houses were close enough to be impacted as well. That's terrible news :|

It wouldn't surprise me if some redneck volunteer fire department made a bad judgement call. I've seen it happen before.

I can't believe how crazy strong the wind is. The fire just keeps building and spreading. Mini-explosions are being reported all over. Probably gas tanks or something in homes?
