Excellent article by Andrew Sullivan. And it reinforces and supports what I said earlier.
FTA (bold emphasis added):
What you see here is social justice ideology insisting, as Dean Baquet temporarily explained, that intent doesn’t matter. What matters is impact. The individual killer is in some ways irrelevant. His intentions are not material. He is merely a vehicle for the structural oppressive forces critical theorists believe in.
Also:
FTA (bold emphasis & bracketed comment added):
The media is supposed to subject easy, convenient rush-to-judgment narratives to ruthless empirical testing. Now, for purely ideological reasons, they are rushing to promote ready-made narratives, which actually point away from the empirical facts. To run sixteen separate pieces on anti-Asian white supremacist misogynist hate based on one possibly completely unrelated incident is not journalism. It’s fanning irrational fear in the cause of ideological indoctrination. And it appears to be where all elite media is headed. ["Appears to be ... headed?" Rather, it is where the corporate media is already at. - OB]
And as an aside, there's this little tidbit from Sullivan's article (bold emphasis added):
In The Root, the real reason for the murders was detailed: “White supremacy is a virus that, like other viruses, will not die until there are no bodies left for it to infect. Which means the only way to stop it is to locate it, isolate it, extract it, and kill it.”
That's from a fetidly septic chunk of verbiage entitled "Whiteness Is a Pandemic" (see Sullivan's article for the source URL, because I'll be damned if I link to it).
Yet here is what Gina Carano posted online that got her fired from Disney - because in Disney's words, it is "abhorrent and unacceptable":
This is the world being engineered for us, and there
will be consequences.
It
can happen here - and the groundwork is already being laid.
Ideological particulars aside,
Joseph Goebbels would be proud.
He'd be proud of the New York Times and the Washington Post. He'd be proud of Disney.
And he'd be proud of that raving bigot at The Root.
They are all his bastard offspring. They are all his spiritual children.
