3 Electoral College members may pass on GOP ticket

I guess we were just watching two different elections. They have made it plain as day to me they want nothing to do with Ron Paul and what he stands for.

I don't see it that way since many RP endorsed candidates won their primaries. There's a myriad of reasons why Paul did not win the nomination, but I think his name hasn't been totally torched in the GOP. They did do a tribute and it was well received at the RNC. There is a big difference between not liking a guy enough to vote for him, and being seriously pissed off at him and anyone associated with him. My personal opinion though, is if these loyalists somehow throw the election to Congress then you are going to see some seriously pissed off people, and it may wind up hurting guys like Tom Davis when they try and run for Senate. It's not in my hands though, I am just an observer like the rest of us.

They brought this upon themselves and neocons don't want to build bridges, they love to tear them down (and then profit of course).

Well we will have to see how it all plays out. Personally, I got over the fact that Paul couldn't win the nomination a long time ago. So while I have been a long time supporter, I am hardly what you would call a loyalist.

But you're still here?

I enjoy reading the news stories, but I am not the type that is trying to figure out what states Paul's name can be written in on, or how the GOP can be sued, or how Romney's name can be removed from the ballot. I'm laid up after some surgery, so this is a nice diversion and keeps my mind occupied.

Not even close. Hypothetically, if a small number of diehard Ron Paul loyalists throw the election to Congress and we wind up with Romney/Biden (as the article suggests), you are going to see some severely pissed off Republican voters. Libertarians are in the minority within the party, we need to be building bridges with others not burning them.

But, I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens and whether or not this has any real effect on the outcome of the election. My guess is that this is much ado about nothing.

Your GOP cheerleading is getting to be a bit much today. Why don't you go over to the DP and try it on the Johnson supporters for a while?

I hope you get well and feel better soon!

I find that site to be confusing to read. Poor layout over there.

I have been active and elected within the GOP since the early 60's. And while the party on a national level has strayed from its founding principles, you will find that many people at the local and county level are far more conservative than the national organization is. All it takes is more people becoming involved locally and we can see a change in the direction overall. I have lived through it before, and am happy to say I am sensing that things are moving in that direction once again.

i should introduce you to the members of my parish executive committee. just as corrupt as the party leadership and are willing to do anything under-handed if it will bring them crumbs from the corrupt power table. will be working to remove them.

Oh I am sure that there are parts of the country that are in far worse shape than others. In large part it is because of the absence of people running for office at the committee level for many years. We had the same thing happen in the late 80's, post Reagan, which is why I think the party got infiltrated with former Dems (aka neo-cons) during that time period

Don't those rifts already exist? Nothing ventured nothing gained! let's rift it up

Not really. There are people who do not may not have wanted Paul as the nominee, but at the same time like a lot of the other folks he supports and supported him. Tom Davis is an example of that here in my area. I'd hate to see a guy like Davis lose support because of a small handful of electors. Not sure if that will happen, but the potential is there.

Is it worth getting 3 meaningless electoral votes if it means an even bigger mountain to climb within the GOP? What if the election actually came down to that being the deciding factor? And the entire country knows they have a different president because 3 ron paul supporters had a personal grudge.

There, fixed it for you.

when i was running for the Parish executive committee this year, i had several former members come up to me- all with the same story, 'i couldn't stand being in those meeting. those people are vipers, but i'm glad you are running so maybe that will change'
apparently, the vipers have run off every good person that has gotten elected. seems like a theme for the party bosses- don't ya think?

why do they have a grudge?
someone burns down your house, and then tells you to vote for him.
you don't, because he burned down your house. he loses.
therefore its your fault.
blame the victim.

Ok, so they stuck to their principles and perhaps created an everlasting grudge that makes it impossible for us to ever do anything within the GOP. I think if a lot of us were just sticking to our principles and didn't care about pragmatism we could all just go to our holes in the LP, constitution party or just stick to posting ancap stuff below youtube videos. I don't see the point of being the 20th person to post AWESOME! in this thread instead of having a real discussion about reality.

I just looked it up: 24 states have laws to punish "faithless electors" and those laws have been held up by the Supreme Court since electors are acting as a functionary of the state, therefore the states have the right to govern electors. I couldn't find a list of the states that have these laws though.
