The question in the poll isn't "who do you think will win the nomination?" Why can't you support Rand even if you don't think he's going to win? Heck, pretty much everyone here supported Ron Paul when he ran, and he never had any real chance to win either.

Why would it be foolish? Was it foolish to support Ron Paul when he never had any realistic chance to win the GOP nomination? There would be no liberty movement if we all just supported the candidates who had the best chance of winning. That would make no sense.

I think it didn't work because people on these forums made negative comments about the other candidates, which pushed their supporters away.
