"Today’s general strike in France showed yet again that the French working class can serve as a beacon for workers throughout Europe and beyond, writes Tina Purcell. In an historic show of strength, over two million workers took to the streets to say enough is enough! From older workers faced with poverty in retirement to young students fearful of their future opportunities, from highly skilled technicians in the aero industry threatened with unemployment to shop workers suffering poverty level wages, the French workers delivered a resounding message to President Sarkozy: we will not pay for your crisis!"

Too bad they are protesting the fact they can be fired and are demanding permanant jobs.

Completely misguided. They want the government to do MORE for them, not less.

say what?

Too bad they are protesting the fact they can be fired and are demanding permanant jobs.

but they aren't just doing nothing while the walls cave in.

Pick your battles, though. How thrilled will we be if a riot ensues that drafts more regulation, taxation, and mind numbing government control? Be careful what you wish for...

They're all a bunch of molly-coddled, statist losers.

This is liberals' dream future for America.

Do they really want freedom, though? The people in Iceland revolted because they wanted more government, not less!

I agree it would be nice for ameica to get fired up for liberty. Imagine a 2 to 5 million srtong protest. I think we will see this soon

This blows my mind.

They are protesting big government and socialism

and demanding... big government and socialism ??

They're protesting the fact that private companies are going to fire them. They aren't protesting against the government or any real cause,.

France and other socialist countries in Europe aren't going to welcome laissez-faire economics or libertarianism any time soon.

Exactly. Hell, I recall reading a few years back how a French employer had to go to a judge because he wanted to fire someone.

gotta love those commie sites

I always think of France as a country that is traveling the same unfortunate path America is, only they are nearing the final destination.

It's sad really. They are protesting against economic reality. It's pointless. They must accept life and all it's responsilbiites. Running around and yelling like a bunch of spoiled kids does not help. When you produce next to nothing...you don't eat.

Socialism is a dream, it is full of empty promises. They are finding this out and they are now rebelling in futility against the laws of existence. It's funny everyone embraces Socialism out of greed, they all expect to receive something for nothing.

It's amazing people are still so naive. Perhaps they will elect an immoral dictator who will promise them everything they ask, they are approaching this point.
