2 Homes Leveled in Indianapolis by Explosion, Damage to Multiple Homes

I just read that two dozen houses are around the blast are uninhabitable and will have to be torn down. In my area there are a few natural gas explosions a year due to idiots stealing copper severing a gas line.. the pictures I've seen from after one of these explosions isn't 1/10 the damage of that. Generally the house in which the leak occured is leveled while neighboring houses only suffered some siding and window damage. I can't imagine what caused this explosion.. My theory is this: one of the houses was rigged to explode.. whether it was with large amounts of gasoline and propane tanks or AMFO I can not say. This is far from a ordinary gas leak explosion though.

They're saying one of the homes was for sale. One blew up a couple weeks ago when thieves stole the gas appliances and left the gas line leaking. It was also empty and for sale.

Perhaps the latest stroke of 'genius' from scavengers is to blow up the house to hide traces of their thievery.

a comment that someone made on the article

Often when two homes are involved, it is because there is a natural gas leak in the street and it follows the gas lines from the street into the homes. Now when one of them goes boom, the other follows from the flash. The leak can also get into the sewer lines and get into the home that way.

Good grief, what does cause that? I'm guessing that between the two badly damaged houses, there was a house in the middle that's gone?

Natural gas explosion in 2010, in California. Rand Paul talks about this as evidence of government fail, in that the legislation that Congress threw together would not have addressed the cause of this explosion if it had been in effect already.

About 50 homes incinerated, 200 more damaged.

I saw a guy in my apartment complex cruise by with a propane tank the other day. It seemed a little odd...

now it's just plain creepy.

Gas leak was my first guess.

Looking at the driveways, I think it's 2.5 houses gone.

I can't tell if there's a driveway at the spot that looks as if it's the center of the explosion! I guess I do see 2 1/2 houses damaged. I was seeing the two houses to the right as one house. But it looks as if the center of the explosion is between them and the house on the left.

Damn, I'd never seen such destruction from a gas leak. The few times it's happened from copper thieves in my area the neighbors' houses are generally fine... aside from a few windows shattered and scorched siding. There was an earlier post from someone local and he or she said the gas company has ruled out a leak. The reports I've read have yet to mention one way or another.

You should have seen the pictures at a distance where the destruction filled the frame. It was huge. It left a huge crater with something like a thirty inch gas pipe uprooted out of the ground.

try 2 houses, there are the two partly collapsed houses, and there were 2 houses in between but it's all one big mess now.
