1984 Paul speech on House floor when he left Congress- he laid it all on the table

I posted this link to my local tea party page with this comment as my favorite:
We pay for bridges and harbors throughout the world and neglect our own. If we feel compulsion to spend and waste money, it would make more sense at least to waste it at home. We build highways around the world, raise gasoline taxes here, and routinely dodge potholes on our own highways.

"Thousands of men and women have come and gone here in our country's history, and except for the few, most go unnoticed and remain nameless in the pages of history, as I am sure I will be."

One of the few things Ron Paul has been wrong about. He has changed the world forever. He has set liberty in motion, and there is no turning back now.

Tweak it for today change billion to trillion, communism to terrorism, and you've got the inagural address right there

I hope future generations read this speech in history books.

Ron Paul is going to be remembered as the single greatest President of all time. Tomes will be written about him. This election cycle, and our role in it, will be the subject of political and media related books for a very long time.

And that sounds like hyperbole, but it is not.

No one but Paul.

Yes, it's old (obviously). I'm posting for newer members or people lurking who are new to Paul. This is what Paul stands for, this is why he left the House in disgust in the 80's. This highlights his integrity, his consistency and what he has been up against all these years. I read this and seriously cannot believe anyone would want to vote for someone else.

Much more at link.

:)
I used to have a paper copy of this, thanks for the reminder.

After months of reading, studying, and understanding this man's message how can I not be motivated and encouraged? I am truly inspired by this man.

Thank you Ron for everything you've done for me. :)

Rand quoted this at the first Tea Party at Faneuil Hall in Boston.

Quote in 2nd segment, at 4:24 (notice emotion) Not the greatest recording sound, but, all you new people, here is a piece of your heritage.

Very epic and moving.

And he didn't even know if anyone would hear him.

This has encouraged me to take up finishing Liberty Defined.

Thank You Doctor Paul

Reading this and studying Ron Paul's life, I truly think he is one of the greatest men to ever live. Some people would call that a crazy/cultish statement, but I really believe this to be the case. To take the stands he has for liberty when he believed there would be almost no chance of him having an effect is truly amazing.

Since I first came here in 1976, the number of lobbyists has doubled and the national debt has tripled — $550 billion to $1.59 trillion — to me a most impractical trend.

If only it were that tiny now...

I got a reply from C-span:

"C-SPAN's archival collection only goes back to late 1987. There is no
video for that date. The screen is black indicating that the House was
in session on that day."

You'd think there would at least be audio somewhere, but oh well.

I sent it to drudge. May be.... keep our fingers crossed.

Flashback: Ron Paul's 1984 speech on house floor. One prediction that did not come true "Thousands of men and women have come and gone here in our country's history, and except for the few, most go unnoticed and remain nameless in the pages of history, as I am sure I will be." - Ron Paul

You gotta remember, 1984, we were still in the primal days of cable television. I know it doesn't seem that long ago....

True that. I was born only one year after this in 1985. If there audio/video of a speech Reagan gave in the 60s there should be at least audio of this speech. It had to have been recorded somewhere, right? Maybe not.

A speech by an unknown house member in 1984? Probably not. But, you never know. Maybe someone will dig it up.
