Sorry to hear. (although on a tangent, there have always been booms and busts/corrections in the economy, that is what capitalism is. This kind of stuff (housing market bust) has been happening since the 1800's and even before that. That's just how capitalism is.)

As someone who is draft eligable for another 5 to 6 years (don't remember the age limit), I don't have a problem with compulsory military after education is done. However, it would have to be started during peace time, which would mean not during conflict and not before an impending conflict.

In a few years once shale oil technology is realized, we will have enough oil for ourselves. One of the largest oil reserves in the world is in colorado, locked up in oil shale. BP right now has technology it's hopeing to implement to extract it. The technology is supposed to be economically...

hahaha...noooo.... Unlike most things, the name is rather accurate. It's strategic to have our own oil reserves in case of war. Last thing we need is to be dependent on oil shipped from other countries during war. That's what happened to japan, we just sent subs to attack all their transport...
