  • I only post Alan Watts videos cause you turned me onto him. I'd heard of him all my life but never actually read or listened to any of his stuff. I figured he was just another Timothy Leary or Richard Alpert. I wish I'd have discovered him 20 or 30 years ago, but I probably would not have been ready.
Just wanted to let you know I heard from Mike Scheuer today. He is really thrilled about you helping him with the web site. Good job ma man! I just knew it would be a good match!
You aren't located that far from me. And I have Canadian relatives. ( Mom was from there)
    Naw, a bit uncivilized maybe.

I told my wife (years ago) I'm housebroke, that's as good as it gets.
I'm able to have kind and thoughtful conversation about Christ with my very religious Grandma... I'm not totally hopeless
Has Grandma seen the urine dripping off of Christ's face? And, would she agree with your assessment of my feelings about this tasteless skit?

But our love is such a positive thing. We can squabble and still have our mutual adoration society. That is what makes us so kewl!!!
Ron Paul will be insulted far worse than this, if he runs in 2012. I suggest you prepare yourself and buy some kleenex
A bad analogy. Ron Paul can in no way be equated to Jesus Christ. I am failing in my effort to get across to you the meaning that Christ has in the hearts and minds of Christians.

I am not trying to give advice on religion, but on individual emotional responses.
I agree that you are trying to give advice on the latter. My point is that you don't have any kind of spiritual relationship with Christ, therefore you aren't in the position to make judgements and give advice about how someone should feel or react in a situation such as this, and expect anyone to be open to your opinion about it. I am suggesting that you refrain from insensitive opinions and advice about a subject you know little about since you have none - faith.

My tone may be negative, but it is with sincere love for my Clay Trainor.
I would argue that you need to toughen up a bit, if this is true

Yes, it's true. It's explained in the thread, please go read my posts so that I don't have to rehash it here. The callous disregard for Christ and Christians was hurtful. I will make no excuses for my feelings about this.

Again, humor is in the eye of the beholder. The jerks that teased you thought they were being funny but by your own admission they were hurtful. That is your humanity. It's always good to grow a thick skin. Mine is probably thicker than most women, as I am constantly attacked for my political views. But when it comes to anyone I love being attacked or insulted, it affects me greatly.

You seem to be incapable of putting yourself in another's shoes, which is fine, but that makes you unsympathetic and you need to realize that you are - and try to stop yourself from giving advice about something with which you have no experience, namely, any kind of spiritual relationship with Christ.
I watched the skit in question. I watched it. I stated that in the thread. It made me cry, Clay. You need to live and let live and stop scolding people of faith as to how they should conduct themselves in order to get your respect. :(

This is about sense and sensibility. Some people have neither.
Clay, really....you're going to compare the N word to urine dripping off of Christ's face? Show me a skit from southpark or Larry that involves urine on the face of a religious leader or something similar. This is over the top. He crossed the line. Nuff said.
You write: Christians need to stop taking everything related to their faith so personally, and lighten up a bit about such unimportant events, imho. By being upset about this, it becomes a news story which only makes things worse for them. By getting upset about this, you are basically eating into Bill O'Reilly styled propaganda, imo. If faith is to be commendable and respected, the faithful must not be so quick to react on emotion.

This is a judgement based on a complete lack of understanding. You are in a class all by yourself if, as you claim, nothing ever really offends you.

The whole point of the first amendment is protection of speech. Popular speech needs no protection, right? It is unpopular speech that needs protection. Since Larry is free to offend whomever he chooses, WE are free to react to his tactless, tasteless humor in whatever way we see fit. It is doubtful Larry has ever done such an offensive skit with other religions. And you, my dearest, are in denial if you reject the notion that Christians are free game. If he had done this same skit using Moses, or Mohamed, or MLK, shit would have SERIOUSLY hit the fan and you know it.

hugs to you sweetness - love you lots!
So, when someone does something disrespectful to someone you love, you aren't offended?

I disagree that the urine dripping off of the depiction of Christ was just a circumstance. I'm sure, if Larry has any brains in his head, he weighed the potential consequences of this disrespect toward a beloved figure and decided he didn't care who he offended. So be it. By the same token, I have just as much a right to push back.

Look, I don't care if people want to make fun of Christians, sometimes the jokes ARE funny. I have two problems with this skit, #1 making jokes about a beloved religious figure using urine is blasphemous, insensitive, and vulgar. Not all jokes are funny. #2 If he's going to insult Christians, he should at least be consistent and spread it around to other religions but I'm betting he doesn't have the stones to do it.
Clay, are you trying to say that you are never offended by anything anyone else has to say?
sorry had to leave for a lil while. been stressed over medical bills and got tired of some folks trying to answer something they couldn't! I am still alive, trying to keep my head up;) finally get to snowboard thursday or friday hopefully that will help relieve some of the stress!! my simple health care reform plan after talking to docs and hospitals is eliminate health insurance all together! ooo well;)
"But to me, that's like saying that my car is an extension of gov't because I need permission to drive it via, taxes, registration and DL."

I would argue that it is. You can only really drive on socialized roads, and the monopoly on those roads can take away your "privilege" to drive forever. They also like to make ridiculous laws and give their enforcement officials "quotas" to meet. No competition, whatsoever. ;)

Do you agree with the govt. enforced road monopoly?

" that somehow we can't be invaded. I gave you a plausible example of how - YES we CAN be invaded."

Okay... Other individuals and groups of individuals can use force against us, I agree. Without a tax structure, there wouldn't' be much to "take over" though. They'd have to fight individual land owners, who probably won't take lightly to a violent invasion of property. I would argue it's far more logical than an enforced socialized national defense, would you disagree and why?

"As to whether gov't should exist BECAUSE we have nukes? Not sure how you concluded that from my response. As to our track record, I don't like it and hope to God we never end up in a nuclear war."

Okay, so would you agree that National Defense and Civil Right security is probably best left out of the hands of the government?
