Fast forward a year or two into the future. We are at war with Russia and China and Iran has been nuked. Here in the United States food is almost nonexistent.

You have been saving gold coins exactly for this situation. So you come across my home and ask to buy one of my tilapia fish to feed your hungry children. I say ok but because everybody wants my fish I am selling it for one ounce of gold per fish. Would you pay it or would you tell your children to bite on your coins?

My point is that food is far more valuable than anything in a situation like that. So I urge you to take some time to explore the different options that you have to grow your own food.

In my example I referred to my Tilapia fish and that was because I wanted to get your interest in a very revolutionary way of producing food called Aquaponics.

Watch this youtube about aquaponics:

There are dozens of ways to produce your own food. So if two years from now your family is starving it will be your fault.

Food is way more valuable...but you might want to consider the guy with the gold just might also have a gun....then he would have his gold and your fish...My advice is the Italian way...

"Don't let anyone know what you got. Period."

Well I plan on having guns and food. I do not agree with gold because in the SHTF scenario it will be worthless. The only time gold is worth something is to someone whom wants it. I for one have never put stock in jewelery or other such nonsense because thats what it is. I have worked hard at instilling this into my GF and it might be working. I see things in what they can do for me such as a gun or a car. The gun and the car are both tools that can get me somewhere or can defend me if the need arises. I have no faith in gold but it might save my savings in the short term turmoil but I am not worried about that because a man that is willing to work 84 + hours a week will get by even if the jobs evaporate.

My intent with this post was to educate. Aquaponics is very easy and very productive. I believe that everybody should have a small system in their back yard along with regular agriculture in a micro scale. Even if food is not scarce whatever you produce is totally organic and hormone free. So you win either way.

And as for your example with the guy with a gun, sadly there will be thousands of hungry people with guns. But if people learn to grown their own food they will still have guns but they won’t be hungry.

I know...i'm sorry...i own an aquarium (fresh, pond and saltwater) store and have been dealing with fish and aquatic systems all my grown life...it is very educational and hopefully people understand the benefits to producing livestock this way...

It can also be done with aquariums in your garage and you can produce shrimp etc....Really it's not hard.

i was just being a smart a**...and I apologize for that.

Also...this can be done alot cheaper than the kits on the websites...try to visit your local aquarium store and Lowe's...equipment can be built MUCH cheaper than they sell it for...Lots of it can be done in larger plastic containers...

Just remember...there are alot of variables that can affect your fish livestock...Ph, water hardness, tempature (some fish only breed at certain tempatures) ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, proper filtration and lighting, and oxygenation all play a role.

Also make sure that your county/parish does not spray pesticides for insects from the back of trucks...terrible for ponds as it contaminates the water...

Rabbits are easier than fish, no?

The big difference is, you have to be able to slaughter a mammal.

Hot House Hydroponics is a book that explains aquaponics in great detail.

I suggest it to anyone wanting to raise tilapia and hydroponic indoor food.

The author also suggests keeping rabbits because the high level of co2 feeds your hydroponic plants.

That's a pretty snazzy setup he has there, but what of us Yankees, who'd love to have our own fresh fishies--do we just have to deal with them dying off every year? Just grab 'em all and freeze or dry them?

My great uncle messed around with shrimp farming for years. Not small scale, rather acre sized outdoor ponds. Finally called it quits since the yields were too low.

Yep, imagine how much investment capital and prosperity if people just paid off debt, bartered, live off the land and worked.
