My idea of lightening up and having a good time neither involves getting drunk or stoned nor hanging out with people while they are doing so. If you can't lighten up WITHOUT alcohol nor enjoy life without watching other people get wasted then you DO have inherent difficulties lightening up. Drugs and alcohol are Viagra for the socially and humorously impotent.
I enjoy rock-climbing, and I enjoy hard work, I enjoy a beer with the boyz, and I enjoy a philosophical discussion with the brothers of my local monastary. Me-thinks a bit of pre-judging is going on here... (and i wouldn't touch that viagra line for a week on pismo beach)
I had a great time. Remided me of my family re-union. Without the guns of course.
Man, you almost made me spit my milk and cookies all over the keyboard...
I was sleeping between the hours of midnight and 4 am. How can you expect someone to spend the daytime handing out slimjims if they have to spend it making up for the sleep they lost at night?
I get by fine on 4hrs sleep a night, comes from my days commercial fishing in the NW...
Did Benjamin Franklin have any scriptural proof to back up that point or was he just making a joke?
Deu 14:26And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,
You know something-I'm not criticizing DJ's efforts. In fact he will tell you I wrote to him recently and made some suggestions about his programming. I'm not throwing away the baby with the bathwater.
This is not about his taking time to relax either. There is nothing wrong with his relaxing-he deserves it-but if relaxing involves questionable behavior then it is best to do that relaxing privately.
However, in this particular thread, his behavior is no different from a 19 year old frat boy. Back in my day, 19 year old frat boys had the advantage of there being no internet where their 19 year old frat boy antics could be shared with the whole world and archived for posterity. Now I don't know what he said last night on the radio but I do know what he wrote here, and anyone who might Google his name will only have this thread to judge what went on. They won't know if it was a one time thing or a regular habit, but it could easily be used against the campaign or him.
Why? Because it is absolutely unprofessional to get drunk while at work-which is what he was doing. If he was working for someone else, he would have been fired before he stumbled out of bed today. What he does on his own time is his business, but showing up for a job drunk is simply wrong.
Everyones behavior is "questionable" to someone. I myself can't stand when people try to hide their "questionable" aspects. The fact remains that most people in the US (and the world) socialize with "lubricants".
If it is purely a numbers game than most people would identify with DJ's humanity and be offended by someone calling them idiots for enjoying a show.
Furthermore, perhaps in some circles, a volunteer would be ostracized for displaying his humanity for all to see, but in my professional world, such behavior is expected and respected. He is a volunteer for gods sake, on his own station, on his own dime, in the middle of the night. He has been working his @$$ off. In my circles we worry about people
without the ability to blow off steam, in socially acceptable way; they tend to go postal. There is a huge difference between a happy, and a belligerant, drunk. Yes, all cultures blow off steam differently, yet most cultures use lubricants to get the ball rolling
My first real post here was titled, Dignity, Diversity and Style, one thing I was trying to say was that we all need to be tolerant if we are going to succeed. If someone is not willing to accept an RP voter/activist, on their merits, because of personal issues, then they are part of the problem. We have everything from Protestants to Rastafarians on board and we need you all...
