Yellowstone Volcano Eruption in 2014? Are Animals Fleeing Park As ‘An Alert’?

A number of bloggers are posting videos that show bison and other animals allegedly leaving Yellowstone National Park, prompting theories that as earthquakes ramp up the seismic activity will set off the Yellowstone supervolcano.

Two of the main bloggers behind the discussion stress that there’s no way to know when the supervolcano will go off but note that the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that hit on March 30 seemed to set off a reaction from the animals, who are moving for a reason.

“Whether I believe this, or whether I don’t believe the story or not, I don’t know. I can tell you this story I saw this morning about the buffaloes running the street … whether or not it’s because of any activity in Yellowstone or not, I don’t know,” said blogger Jay Lee, who posted a story on his site tatoott1009.com.

“But I’ll tell you this, whatever the case may be, that their running away from Yellowstone is an alert of some sort.”

“It also could be from this video, where poachers are killing them, chasing them, abusing them, running them around,” he said. “Could be hundreds of things for them to be running. I wanted you to listen [to the videos] and make up your own mind on what to think. “

A series of smaller quakes have hit the region over the past few weeks, and those quakes have been linked to the recent 5.1 magnitude quake (and aftershocks) that hit in the Los Angeles region.

Tom Lupshu, who describes himself as a “noted Ohio survivalist and search-and-rescue expert,” said on YouTube that nearly one quarter of the northern elk herd at Yellowstone National Park are missing, according to the annual winter count.

“Biologists aren’t sure if there’s been a stunning decline in the herd or if other factors have skewed the tally,” he said. “Current Helium releases at 1000 times above normal. Complete media blackout. Herds of bison running for their lives on the public roadways and they were not being chased or rounded up, the bison were running down the mountain slopes onto roadways running right past a filming crew. They detect something vast and deadly. The Yellowstone Supervolcano is the only thing there that would fit the bill.”

Lupshu said in a later video that scientists say they can’t predict when the Supervolcano will erupt.

“But one thing is for sure. The more the Earthquakes in the region, the more are the chances of the volcano being activated from its dormant state. Last time an earthquake struck in 1980. But the force of nature has acted up once again.”

The supervolcano refers to the huge magma chamber beneath the park, which is in Wyoming.

Looking at that damage radius......Oh if only that supervolcano was located in Central Park, NY. :D

If it blows up I guarantee some geniuses will declare it was due to man-made global warming. And then later as the earth continues to cool, the cooling will be blamed on the Yellowstone Eruption that was itself caused by man-made global warming.

Basically, it will be your fault and you'll be taxed for it.

Where are all these videos? All I've seen is the bison video above.

Have you looked. I saw another one talking about it (on a quick search this morning).

Wildlife will flee before anyone else.

I have looked. Perhaps I am using the wrong search terms.

The only footage I have seen is the Bison. But it is mentioned on a couple other sites.

There is a Video from a Government mouthpiece that sounds a lot like Baghdad Bob. I suspect to keep tourist dollars rolling in.

Nothing to see here. Everything is fine. Despite the largest earthquake (4.8) recently.. and the ground raising 10 inches in the last year.

I would say that watching the animals is a good idea.
Everyone agrees that it is only a matter of time before it does blow,, no one knows when.

I watched a documentary on this a few years ago. Aren't we in the window for estimated eruption time?

Granted...that window was like hundreds of thousands (or maybe millions..be awhile) years.

you don't want this thing to go off....

the life you have now will change, IF you live through it.

But my property value and employment options will improve.

But No,, I do not want it to blow.. That would be very bad.

Wow, those bison are really hoofing it! I wonder how far they are going?

Don't know.. and don't know why.. that is only speculation.

But if that thing does blow,, they likely won't be far enough.
Estimates are that it would effect 1/3 of the country.

It is likely nothing. Geologist know how super volcanos blow. The conditions aren't right yet with Yellowstone since it is constantly releasing building pressure. Further you need a collapse of the crust onto the core if I recall. I'm more amazed the Bison ran on the right side of the road.

Don't all cow-type animals (bovines?) spend their lives moving from one place to another looking for greener pastures? This video just shows a couple dozens animals coming down from a snowy hill - maybe they're just hungry, and it is springtime. Thinking it suggests the volcanoe's gonna blow seems like a stretch to me (of course I live far outside of the danger zone).

Very true, sir.

If it did, it is every man for himself. Everyone should immediately grab help and arm them, go to every store you can, and kill anyone in your way to get all food and water. And even then, if you have enough for 3 years, your chances are still slim.

I wonder if these earthquake cluster are tied in with something new happening. Kind of freaky when you think about the earthquakes and the look those buffalo had in their eyes.

Anyone figure out when that Fleeing Buffalo video was made? It could be from years ago. Maybe a thirty percent loss of the elk herd isn't out of line for winter like this one.

If they pass by hear I'm going to fall in right behind them!

I didn't see anything in the video that confirmed it was even shot IN Yellowstone. The terrain looks similar, but there's no way to tell for sure. Also, as Carson points out, the video could have come from yesterday or fifteen years ago.

Also, in areas were buffalo (bison, technically) are allowed to roam free, it's quite common for them to use the roadway to travel. The reason is obvious - they do it for the same reason we do. It's easier than walking through tall grass and uneven terrain. I've seen them trotting off like that when something startles them. In this case, it's much more likely they were "stampeded" by some idiot blowing his horn than any impending volcanic eruption.

The author of the story seems to specialize in writing TV and movie reviews. (click on his name at the top of the story to see what else he has written)

The story itself is based on "speculation" by two bloggers who apparently have nothing better to do with their time.

Last, if you bother to read the caption below the ash/fallout maps, the text reads: "Fortunately, the Yellowstone volcanic system shows no signs that it is headed toward such an eruption in the near future. In fact, the probability of any such event occurring at Yellowstone within the next few thousand years is exceedingly low."

To sum it up, if anyone thinks the Yellowstone caldera is going to blow within the next, say, ten years, I'll be happy to place large cash bets with any and all takers. ;)
