"Apparently, Yellowstone National Park has been having a very unusual number of earthquakes. Many of the most recent tremors have been deeper underground, an ominous sign. Combine that with a rapid rise in elevation over the past three years, and the possibility that earthquake activity from surrounding areas could trigger such an eruption on its own, and you've got the possible warning signs of a supervolcano eruption that would wipe out half to 2/3 of the continental US, plunge global temperatures, and wipe out a very significant chunk of world food sources. Here's a little more info to make your New Year brighter!"

possible national crisis scenario to place a blame on for the economic decline in 2009?

This. Lava is cool to look at, and I hear it's a pretty quick and painless death (unless you die from smoke inhalation). Besides, it just sounds cool to say that I died from a volcano.

What if we sacrifice 2x as many used ones? 10x? Someone go negotiate with the Volcano God.

Look I'm trying to create a market for de-virgination services and your suggestions are ruining my business plan.

FYI,

The last time yellowstone erupted, it covered 2/3 of North America with lava, ash, and debris. We know from the geological records that yellowstone has erupted on a regular cycle of a few hundred milion years. Right now, we're about 200 million years overdue.

Yellowstone terrifies me when I think about it.

I died from a volcano, and let me tell you, it's pretty cool.

Yup... potentially a LOT worse than the Mt. St. Helens eruption. Even a small one at Yellowstone (like 1/2 the size of MSH, could spell disaster for crops depending on the timing, because it's a LOT closer to the "grain belt" -- and even MSH dropped some ash [admittedly minor "dusting" of particles] on us here in the Wisconsin and relatives in the Dakota's got varying amounts they could measure).

Even a small eruption or "blow" of Yellowstone would sink the market a lot further and send commodities skyrocketing... giving Washington yet another "crisis" to play on.

Scary indeed.

Well, you know, when I'm chatting with other heathens in an iron maiden deep in Hell at 3000+ degrees with insects crawling in and out of me as I constantly feel starving and dehydrated and gasp for breath, as a spike has pierced my lung...

LMAO. That's funny stuff.

Who owns the property outside of the blast zone? Probably Lex Luthor. These are the people who are at fault for this mess. After the dust settles this is going to be the most expensive real estate outside of beach front Cali.

Maybe Paulson can give the Volcano a bailout in order to stop it from blowing.

Fucking Neo-Cons are probably behind this.

We will experience major global cooling if this volcano erupts, we need to drive more SUVs in advance to stave off the coming decade of winter.
