You should have included "Hell yes." or "Bet your ass, yes." Plain old yes isn't strong enough for me :)

I'm tired of the politicians promising us things that that isn't theirs to give or things my kids will have to pay for later.

Quoting Dr. Paul:

Our nation’s promise to its seniors, once considered a sacred trust, has become little more than a tool for politicians to scare retirees while robbing them of their promised benefits. Today, the Social Security system is broke and broken.

Those in the system are seeing their benefits dwindle due to higher taxes, increasing inflation, and irresponsible public spending.

The proposed solutions, ranging from lower benefits to higher taxes to increasing the age of eligibility, are NOT solutions; they are betrayals.

Imposing any tax on Social Security benefits is unfair and illogical. In Congress, I have introduced the Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act (H.R. 191), which repeals ALL taxes on Social Security benefits, to eliminate political theft of our seniors’ income and raise their standard of living.

Solvency is the key to keeping our promise to our seniors, and I have introduced the Social Security Preservation Act (H.R. 219) to ensure that money paid into the system is only used for Social Security.

It is fundamentally unfair to give benefits to anyone who has not paid into the system. The Social Security for Americans Only Act (H.R. 190) ends the drain on Social Security caused by illegal aliens seeking the fruits of your labor.

We must also address the desire of younger workers to save and invest on their own. We should cut payroll taxes and give workers the opportunity to seek better returns in the private market.

Excessive government spending has created the insolvency crisis in Social Security. We must significantly reduce spending so that our nation can keep its promise to our seniors.

comes with a catch,
I want my 12.5% back that goes to it

Hell at this point I would settle for no SS tax taken out of my furture checks....meaning I keep it

and the money they stole since age 16 I would forgive (better than an armed revolution dont ya think?)

Exactly, its not like the government is going to give us something one day for nothing.

We will have payed for it. Not only that, its an investment that by law we must pay into, and the real rate of return is 0%. Social Security is a giant regressive scam.

43-0 Wow!

Yeah Social Security is bankrupt. The idea is the most flawed in the history of the United States. Pay into a system that pays you back out only what you put in. The federal governmnet holds on yout YOUR money and only gives it back to you when it feels like it. That system is deeply flawed. It was created by liberal socialist who never bothered to try and figure out the long term numbers of the system. It will go broke, it will require another tax to fix it and we won't be seeing our hard earned money in the future. All classes of people can use that money in their pocket right now.

Having family and friends who are having to depend on it because their generation was suckered by the pipe dream that it would meet all their needs, I see what they got for their dependence on fedgov. While I don't rub it in their face, it is their faults that they live on such a measley subsistance, barely maintaining a part of 'the American dream'. They put their faith in socialism and are now reaping their rewards. Whatever happened to the independent spirit that built this Nation? It sure is not in hoping the fedgov will gime, gimme, gimme somemore.

The thing about Social (in)Security is it was originally a VOLUNTARY system. Lets put it back at least to that, however if we got rid of it, I would want (but not expect) a refund for every dime I put into a failing system that does nothing more than support private drug companies.

For those that are on Social Security, fine. Our government (we) made a promise to take care of these people in exchange for paying a Social Security tax. We made a promise and should hold ourselves to it. As far as anyone else that is looking to bail out, do it. Get out. Its not stable and wont be there by the time I retire at 67, or as adjusted by the time I turn 67, retire at 93, then 107, and so on. I think Social Security was a mistake, but as a believer in freedom = responsiblity for my actions, we need to hold up to our end of the bargain and fulfill the promises that we made.

Pay out on those now collecting, and let the damn system die already.

Doesn't RP agree with this?

In this Dec 07 PBS doucmentary on Ron Paul, a professor says Ron Paul will abolish social security. Would you still vote for him if you knew he would remove 99% of social security benefits?

This includes things like most unemployment benefits, healthcare and veterans benefits?
edit: i suspect it also includes things like tax benefits for having children, disability benefits and so on.
Spook.

.

What are you talking about our Social Security...the young people are paying into a ponzi scheme with no possibility of ever seeing one cent of it coming back to them.

BTW, that's one of the reasons why I'm voting for him. Uphold the promise to those who have paid in, and let the young people get the heck out!

he wants to phase the program out, not flip it like a switch. nobody would be left out in the cold.
