Would Romney still debate Paul if all the other candidates drop out after South Carolina?

they won't all drop out, not at once

Perry first, then after Florida Santorum

Newt will stay until after super Tuesday

Newt won't stay that long.

If Mitt Romney wins SC, the Republican establishment will pressure all other candidates to drop out.

Newt & Santorum are part of the corrupt K Street lobbying scheme, so they'll drop out, so they don't burn bridges with the establishment.

After Florida, it will be Mitt Romney vs Ron Paul.

I've already addressed this hypothetical in a previous thread: they will have a 1-on-1 debate, but Romney will get about 57 minutes to speak and Ron Paul will get 3 :)

No he won't and RON WILL NEED TO ATTACK HIM FAIRLY SOON! I suspect most people dropping out after florida so we better be attacking romney a little before florida. It needs to start sooner rather than later. The good news is that we can keep doing money bombs because we have such a dedicated base and the campaign will run ads in each states primary. This is how we will win after florida.

But why? All the other candidates including Gingrich esp are running some pretty nasty ads against Romney, and the press is really playing up some of his gaffes now. :P

Still, I just get the nasty feeling in my stomach that whoever wins florida will end up sweeping the Super Tuesday states. It's not too late for Gingrich to pull a John McCain on the country by winning SC and/or Florida. Hope I'm wrong!!

in 08 when it was down to ron and mccain i was just waiting for ron to destroy mccain 1 on1....it never happened. there was no more debates. mccain pretended like he already won it all as did the media. if this happens again i suspect ron will call him out and force a debate or make him look bad for dodging him.

I have a feeling Santorum will stay in the race until some of the southern states have primaries.

I am going to guess Perry will be the next to drop out after Huntsman. If Newt doesn't get 2nd or 3rd in Florida he might drop out as well. All in all, it will probably depend on fundraising.

i would be going crazy for about week beforehand. I think Ron has captivated the media enough now that should the RNC or romney try NOT too, it would help RP even more. How dumb would mittens look really

It will likely depend on Ron's supporters on getting back to 2008 tactics to go around the big media.

i dont think they will allow that, because Dr. Paul would tear down Romney to pieces !
i wonder what will be the strategy then ? no debates, no interviews, media declaring Romney as the nominee.
politics is so tricky !!

Just a hypothetical, what happens once the other candidates drop out and it's just Mitt vs. Ron? Would Mitt debate Paul one on one?

Of course he will. Both are top tier candidates and respect each other. There is too much conspiracy in this thread

Romney was very disrespectful to Ron in 2007.

You think it's coincidence that the one candidate who has a clear strategic self-interest in not attacking Ron also happens to be the one candidate not attacking him?

Romney is the guy that wouldn't even do TV INTERVIEWS when he thought it was not in his interest! You think he'll do a debate that's not in his interest?

i hope Ron will be more aggressive. i hope Ron will call out Romney if Romney doesnt want to be in a 1v1 debate. i hope all supporters will call out Romney and call out mainstream media as well to do a debate. Ron needs to be vicious and do this!

Oh, there will be a debate. Romney thinks he's got it in the bag with his "presidential look" and all of the GOP talking points. (America is the greatest country in the word and Barack Obama is destroying it.) and the MSM will lob him soft balls in which he gets to say all of his talking points. Then they will ask Dr. Paul a complicated question and not give him enough time to give a proper answer. And Mittens will interrupt him 'I disagree completely with Dr. Paul' then say pretty much the same thing RP was going to say. And then when he finishes talking, Ron will try to finish his point and the MSM will interrupt him and tell them they will move on, but give him more time to talk on that later. And then they will never get back to the original subject.

Did I tell you I'm totally disgusted, disillusioned, and disappointed in the world, and the political process today?

It's not 2007. Romney has no path to the whitehouse if he alienates Ron's supporters.

South Carolina is our Waterloo.

Winning South Carolina is CRITICAL.

No. Instead you'll see unprecedented SUPER PAC spending to keep Romney ahead in spite of his refusal to debate.

Um. We aren't going to win South Carolina. We just need to continue to be in the top 3 until super Tuesday where our strong caucus states catapult us. Right now, staying relevant is the game. Keep trucking hard in SC and Nevada, but more importantly stay relevant.
