Ms. Shvarts is engaged in performance art. Her art project includes visual representations, a press release and other narrative materials. She stated to three senior Yale University officials today, including two deans, that she did not impregnate herself and that she did not induce any miscarriages. The entire project is an art piece, a creative fiction designed to draw attention to the ambiguity surrounding form and function of a woman’s body.

She is an artist and has the right to express herself through performance art.

Had these acts been real, they would have violated basic ethical standards and raised serious mental and physical health concerns.

Thank god. I can kind of appreciate this as a piece of perfomance art. It will make pro-choice people see a different side of the abortion debate (such as myself). I dont have any problems with this anymore.

I find this painfully disturbing, and hurtful.
My wife had a miscarriage at 19 weeks in 2006, one more week and it would have been considered a stillbirth. It was the absolute most painful thing I've ever had to live through in my life, and I was only 20 years old when I had to deal with that. Now we have a beautiful 9 month old girl. But it was the hardest thing I ever had to deal with and I considered suicide a few times. But now I'm a happy man.

I can't wrap my head around why somebody would intentionally do this multiple times for "art".

No problemo. It's a really disgusting concept and I was pretty mortified myself. I felt kinda dopey in thinking there was any merit to it when I first read it.

Thank you very much. That was in 2006, and it's sometimes painful to think about it, but if it wasn't for that happening we wouldn't have our daughter now, and she's a beautiful little booger and I love her more than anything, so I guess things happen for a reason

Interesting, yet still repulsive. I hope Yale kicks her ass out just for being an idiot--true or not.

So, the only thing I can say is that if she actually did it the way she describes, she does not know if it was an abortion or a heavy period. Abortifacients would cause heavier bleeding and cramping. The few herbal methods generally work by causing hard uterine contractions. If it was RU-486, that would have a similar effect.
