Will the 2012 bribery scandal torpedo Rand Paul’s 2016 hopes?

The bribery scandal surrounding former Rep. Ron Paul’s (R-Texas) 2012 presidential bid is threatening to damage his son’s 2016 White House prospects.

The saga took down Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-Ky.) likely campaign manager, Jesse Benton, who was running Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) reelection bid. And the implications of wrongdoing two years ago could still further trickle down and hobble the younger Paul’s developing presidential campaign apparatus.

I think most people are surely smart enough to realize that Rand had absolutely nothing to do with what went on in Ron's campaign in 2012.

I think that it was P.T. Barnum who said something like "No-one has ever gone broke under-estimating the intelligence of the American public."

If his dad's corrupt campaign can "torpedo" Rand, his dad's newsletters will do it too. I expect that to be an important MSM story once again when the election comes around.

We can be sure of a very bloody battle if Rand runs. They will stop at nothing to stop Rand. I would not blame him one bit if he decides not to run.

This blog is idiotic.

For starters, Benton wasn't working for Rand Paul when this happened, nor will he be in 2016. The blog also makes it sound like not having Benton working for Paul is a bad thing. Personally, I am relieved.

Secondly, this non-story is so lame, that McConnell has been climbing in all the polls released after Benton resigned. We're supposed to believe that no one cares now, but they'll care a year from now?

I know the political pundit class has to analyze every little thing - "does so-and-so's choice of a blue tie hurt his candidacy? - but crap like this ain't even worth reading.

I bet they trot out Dondero to say he "saw" Rand Paul writing them, or something close to that.
